  • This is the O'Jays. Done announces it at the beginning and I know their voices. I have all of their music.

  • The gospel infulence in this song is amazing

  • dose any one know who sing this one ?

  • think it was the O'Jays...kinda sounds like them...we had all of their albums. I loved soul train when i was a kid. i wanted to be a soul train dancer. all we did as kids was dance all damn day long and watch soul train on the weekends! they need a soul train Dance Dance revolution game!

  • I think most people in the 70's were thin. Like someone else said, back then, we used to play outdoors all day until the street lights came on. Then we were good and tired when we came in. Also, this was also before this saturated fat mess, salt and sugars in people's food. Not to mention, it was before corporations took over mass production of food. Our parents and grandparents fed us fresher foods with less chemicals and did alot of home cooking, so yes, most people back then were thin.

  • @kvstar2000 - totally agree - I know that I WAS very thin back then!

But then again, just look at how much energy the dancers put into their dancing - and I love the all the plaids and the hairstyles back then.

  • Notice how thin everyone was. I know there had to be some overweight people in the 70's. Were they all left out of the Soul Train line? Just wonderin...

  • @scChocl8

Fred Berry who played Rerun on the show What's Happening was a dancer on Soul Train first. He was fat then too.

The earlier episodes had maybe like two heavy or thick people but later on as it got more popular they stuck with skinnier people.

  • Just think how cool are parents were. Lots of dancing in my home I still watch soul train. Def rebels of the 70s...

  • ils ont l'èr de s'amuser!!! attendez-moi je viens!!! lol

  • thank god for michael jackson,as if

  • dancing have come from a very far way....thank God for people like Michael Jackson....who have exposed the world to real dancing....lol..lol

  • @8516657 haven't seen much of the world have you? this is one of the places where the Jackson 5 and MJ had their first breaks.

  • @8516657 & dedit8...WTF!!!???? you must be white to have made a comment like that. And you think MJ was the one who invented "real dancing?" LMAO!!! What a ignorant thing to say; shows how uneducated and immature you are. And where do you think MJ got his dance moves from?

  • I love this. Notice how are they are all fully clothed and not dressed like hoochies.

  • @redenchilada I TOTALLY AGREE!!!

  • @ Ziggy42scoop and bohannonable, great minds think alike. :)

  • @redenchilada I AM THINKING THE SAME THING.STYLISH CLOTHING

  • Just FANTASTIC!,,

Yep, this was our kinda scene in Glasgow, Scotland too....the club 'Maestros' was our equivalent to 'Studio 54 'in NYC....boy! were we so fit then, that's what you call style and dancing ..you worked to buy new outfits every week for the several clubs we went to during the week, and weekend...those sure were the days...so glad I lived and participated in that era.....great dancing then.....I pay homage to the Black People who brought so much into our world, and awakened us!!!

  • I was a little girl (about 8 or 9) I can remeber Soul train!... And back then there were HARDLY no overweight ppl.. Im 44 now

  • I'm a year younger than you and I remember looking forward to saturdays so I could watch cartoons, Soul Train, American Bandstand and play with my toys!

  • no fatties here - all lean and healthy - good vibe chunes,,

    luve the pants...........

  • They were all having so much fun. Check the beat on this fabulous song. The main hand clap is right on.

  • Raposofan,

I am going to disagree with you a bit as far as the weight issues. I grew up in the 70s and we did not dance every day. 95%of the people looked like these kids in my neck of the woods. They were just regular folks.

Our diet has changed and we eat junk 24/7 and live a very seditary lifestyle.

  • shit wear were u i also grew up in the 70s im 49 back then thats all people did was work and dance. friday night parties house parties all the time. but it had nothing to do with small weight. we ate differently

    gamagan1

  • This might sound like a dumb question, but how DID people eat back then? Was it smaller portions? Less booze? People just wanted to eat healthy? Image? WaS it common for someone to be afraid to be fat, or did the thought just never enter your mind? Long question, but I'm curious

  • gavinottawa,

I think people were a more active back then so they stayed in shape. today people sit on their asses in front of TV or the computer. more people have cars so nobody is walking or biking. I think modern technology and more disposable income is making us fatter.

  • aint that the truth

    gamagan1

  • long question but simple answer we did'nt have all the saturated fatty food like today. and we were more active, kickball

hing go see, catch one catch all. these were all active games we played everyday and so did the neighborhood.

    Gamagan1

  • yeah, thats true. the games we played when we were kids involved running and jumping and climbing. we never sat in the house all day. my kids now do the opposite. they're happy in front of the TV all day long. my son is 6yrs old now but when he was making me carry him when he was 3yrs old cause he didnt want to walk !!

  • Lot of folk keep asking why everyone on the line is so thin. Two reasons, first, Soul Train dancer was a job. You had to dance every day. If you dance every day, you will stay thin. Second reason, pay attn to this, there was no high fructose corn syrup invented so there was 0 in the soda and food. Sugar and saccharine instead. Fructose will put weight on you and that is why most Americans are heavy. Add the internet instead of going out to the disco to dance and there you have it. :(

  • YEP!!! You are so right!!! I remember being a child in the 70's; most people were thin back then. People were more active and ate less junk, we still ate junk food but I think the biggest contribution to the weight is the high fructose corn syrup like you said!!!

  • These videos are so much fun to watch. You Tube is way better than t.v.

  • @ :48 sec. that brotha is killin me with the white suit! He ain't clean is he???? LOL

  • First brotha dancin down the line looks like a grown up version of buckwheat.

  • LOL! Ain't funny, but I have to agree!LOL!

  • Nothin is more priceless than the afro with the center comb part! LOL

  • Just seeing this makes me feel better already!! Wow.

  • THAT IS SNOOP DOGG AT 1:57...LOL!

  • what it doo baby boo

  • Today's TV programs lack the freshness that SOUL TRIN used to have.

  • snoop dog is one of them... xD

  • 1:22-1:30 dude looked like Miss J from ANTM lol ...

  • wow 0:10 - 0:17 all i saw was nose and lips ... goodness!!!!

  • HELL YES!! This ROCKS!!! :)

  • if they had that today 3/4 of the crowd would be 350 lbs.!!! Maybe its me but i remember most everybody being alot smaller then........wish the afro would come back in style too!

  • Is he still alive?

  • Chuxyy, Don Cornelius (the Soul Train host) is still alive.

  • Pls whatz the the Djs name again?

  • That's Don Cornelius, the coolest brother in America.

  • put yr hands together yeahhhhhhhh that was a tuneeeeeee love the line dancers .....

  • Listen to the lyrics.

  • Whose parents/grandparents are these now? LOL!

  • chiliz345 they're probably the parents/grandparents of kids who listening to pure garbage right now. Kids who don't know the meaning of respect, let alone respect themselves. But for all the kids who DO have their heads on straight, keep ya' head up!

  • Notice how slim the dancers were at this time. Dancing was definitely a form of aerobic exercise. They were not always "thick" or "full-figured" like they are today.

  • What year was this?

  • This song by the OJays, "Put Your Hands Together," was release in 1973

  • i aim for the perfection of the afro's on here

  • TEMA DISCOTEQUERO

  • GRAN TEMA

  • man, I don't remember dudes tying their shirts to the chest like that.

  • Lol.. Their outfits.. It's cute though. I would much rather see clothes like this than the baggy 'gang' apparel I see people wearing now and days.. :)

  • Is it me or did the men back then all dance like queens. I love it !

  • Yes, its just you debbiedelight. Back then dancing was a form of expression. Unlike today, where girls want to "drop it like its hot" or booty shake and they guys were more interested in standing around trying to look hard a thuggish. Dancing at that time was not about style points, sexuality or all the other crap you get today. We just got on the dance floor and moved our bodies freely, both women and men. Today's kids cant do it, thats why everybody is so thick and full-figured now.

  • This is fantastic to watch, every single one of the dancers looks like they are really enjoying themselves.

  • people were much thinner back then.

  • CLASSIC song and TV show! The lady at 0:23-0:28 has a nice shape! :)

  • They sure know how to move.

  • I love this dancing style and first.

    Great soultrain.

  • claimguy, you're an arsehole !
