She sounded far more american-influenced here in her singing than in all her post-peformances ... with all the melismas in the middle .... compared to the recorded version in 1993 this is a much more "less frenchy" vocal performance so therefore that all vocal technique change you mentioned just makes not sence to me. She still sings a lot like this these days except the fact that her voice has become more and more nasal.

i agree with the magic part.  she seems really at ease with her body and voice. her present reputation is that she moves very awkwardly, but here she seems "normal" to me..
