We can't go to Church because we ARE the Church. But we can BE with Church.
The reason I stopped "going" to Church is because I do not agree with its teachings. The Church teaches that women are supposed to be subservient to men. That grace and faith are fine, but that our works prove our faith. That they are above us and we need them to teach us about God.
I disagree with each of these things. But I am not allowed to discuss them. All they do is tell me they're right and I'm wrong.

it's important to go to church because God said Faith comes by hearing. God asked how will they hear unless they have a preacher Hebrews 10? So Faith comes by hearing from your pastor. And pastors were placed over flocks so that they might shepherd them. Also God said without faith it's IMPOSSIBLE to please Him. So putting these factors together, without church it's safe to say it's amlost impossible to please Him, because how will you know how to FAITH in somebody you know nothing about....
@TEMPESTofGERK In all honesty, Idk what I posted, but what I do remember is I was angry at church in general and HATED the bible, churches and christian leadership. I once a pencostal christian. But with everything I've been through, I just now go to BIBLE teaching churches where I get to ask and grill the pastor hardcore. @bagchun Surely you're not suggesting that churches don't pay taxes? You'd be wrong in that assumption. Churches pay out property taxes, income taxes and FICA on non clergy staff (clergy pay 100% of their own on salary and all other benefits including when provided utilities and housing), etc. The average church is just rolling over what is offered by way of tithes and gifts to be used for ministry within and beyond its walls.
Oh man, all the way until the end I thought this was going to be an athiest church! Boy, was I surprised! Christians really need to start understanding that their religion isn't the only one around! There can't be two truths and are thus oppossed to every other truth out there including scientific ones. Tolerance is a secular thought, which is what (it seems to me) this video is about.
@VoltageGlitz the difference between christianity and other religions is simple - christianity is the only 'religion' where the god actually came down in human form. He is the only one who is alive. And better yet, he's the only god who's shown great, unconditional love for us. He's the only one who paid such a great price for a relationship with him.
There can't be two truths. You can't serve two masters. The bible says 'the only way is through me', and Islam follows similar teachings.1 truth.

I was stating how the church has a long history of intolerance, and if it weren't for secular thought, it would still be persecuting today (witches come to mind). As for there being no other gods in human form is wrong. Almost every kind of god humans could think of has been (or is) in human form and some of them came down to us giving us stuff, knowledge, or impregnating women. A virgin birth is a very common theme in religions.

Islam and christianity are completley different - islam came 500 years after christianity, and the bible was the first document to record jesus' life and what he did. Many muslims actually read the bible to get a better understanding of jesus.
Therefore, i don't take mohammed's word for it. You cannot compare the two like that - two different 'religions', two different messages.

Is there a way you can test the claims it makes? The Koran is the first document to record the life and times of mohammed, and muslims read the koran to get a better understanding of the prophet. The bible was written by anonymous greek authors a few centuries after Jesus' supposed ressurection. How is that reliable?
The qu'ran's record of Jesus' life is almost the opposite of the Bible's record. Because the new testament was (beggining to be) written just a few years after Jesus, we can trust this as somewhat reliable. I am saying that because the Qu'ran came 500 years after Jesus and gave an account of him, we can trust this as being unreliable.
There are also historic documents that correlate positively with events that happened in the bible.

You believe that a great earthquake happened that opened up many graves and that the people walked about and conversed with the living? So, obviously to you you'd look at miracles and think 'how stupid, that never happened in my lifetime thus far!' and then since you were not there when the miracle happened you are not entitled to an opinion.

the reasons are more fundamental than these. they are related to more essential questions (E.g. If God created everything, who created God?) about doubts regarding christianity than going to church.

4) so do I and so do the majority of Christians - Christianity teaches that sex was created by God, I believe that Christianity and science can coexist, I like people - gay, straight, bi. Some churches are anti-science and homophobic but most are not so blind.
5) preferring to just live does not mean salvation is not needed. :-)
2) Do you realize you idolize and give thanks to an instance of human sacrifice in Jesus? You even create a ritual around drinking the supposed blood of this person.
4) Science and God cannot coexist unless you use apologist arguments or ignore facts or Bible teachings that don't suit reality. God didn't create sex, he created asexuality then punished us, especially females, with procreation and childbirth.

I'm not sure where you get the idea that "God made man asexual" I don't see anything apart from miracles (which by definition are outside normal) that contradicts science unless you read the bible literally. I also think there is a big difference between accepting a person and agreeing with their actions. As I said before I have doubts and "the homosexuality issue" is one of those things - how can an all loving God dislike loving relationships? but I don't think...

@littleun1990 You may want to look into the Skeptic's Annotated Bible. It is a collection of bible verses grouped into categories like violent, absurd, homosexuality, women, intolerance, contradictions, and so on... It does not use any outside sources just bible quotes. You can look them up in your own copy if you want more info on context. As an atheist who has read the bible in the past I use it as a nice reference for quoting the bible. Like my personal favourite verse Deu 22: 28- 29. Enjoy!

@quattro610 if you want the church to exist, they need the money.. not your money, but just money. in the bible it talks about offerings... go search it up. catholics that i know of guide themselves into a different direction. for example, they teach that gays should be allowed, when the bible says it's bad to be gay. the reason we go to church is for a change in our character and to spread the word. it has nothing to do with religion, but that's what the society wants us to think. :D

Did those who gathered together after Pentecost as described in Acts 2:41-47; 4:32-37 assemble together in churches built by human hands or assemble in homes? Do we attend churches who main focus is entertainment and growth, and not on teaching strongly on repentance, etc? What about 2 Cor.6:17-18 command?

If you are born again 2 Cor 6:17-18 are pretty much a way of life already. If they are not preaching all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God and that only through Jesus Christ can we believe and repent to be saved then indeed abandon such congregations.

The Church is a place for sheep to congregate and listen to the same mind deteriorating drivel as ancient peoples once had. However, unlike the ancients, their choice to believe such antiquated beliefs is inexcusable today because of an insurmountable amount of evidence disproving such beliefs. While the rest of the world moves forward in to the future, religious followers such as Christians are stuck thousands of years in the past hoping their blind devotion is rewarded in death. Such a waste.
Why do so many Christians get angry when they have a different belief than another Christian? They use all CAPS and sometimes call names. They tell the person they are headed for Hell and God will judge them. Why not love and state your case but do it in a graceful way? It's no wonder so many people don't want anything to do with Christianity. Jesus is amazing but His followers, not so much.

My problems with church, which influenced my athiesim. One, they still conform to dogmatic ideals. Two, they still invoke fear indoctranation, basicly conform to theology and dont question if you do your a heritic. Three, they try and make you fill guilty for living a more seculer life so you can conform into theology, sex bad, mastrubation bad, metal music bad, punk music bad, evolution bad, being a free thinker bad. It's sad, they are trying to shove their authority down everyone!
@pbrskater26 As far as the "Don't question our doctrine" view, that is a corrupted view of Christianity, and if you run into a church that is like that, no matter what, even if someone sees eye to eye with that church's doctrine, they should avoid that kind of church. As far as the secular lifestyle goes, we don't see sex as bad, but it can be abused. Masturbation and evolution just don't mix with...really most religions' doctrine. Metal and Punk aren't necessarily bad, but we're careful.

Actually, even if there weren't any outside contemporary accounts of Jesus, it doesn't make the Bible untrue. The Holy Spirit (GOD) is the witness that these things were true and in turn God knew what to dictate, through the Holy Spirit, to give to those who wrote it down for us to believe in faith. I know Jesus lives because he is right here in my heart with me, he walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way. The Holy Spirit is the one who convinces you your need, not me...
actually outside the Bible there are multiple accounts of Jesus and his miracles. Non-Christian historians including Tacitus from the mid 60's AD, Pliny the Younger, Josephus, Lucian, & the Babylonian Talmud to name a few. The error many make today is a modern bias when it comes to historical data. They did not have video camera's recording every event, or the internet to spread information in record time. More evidence exists for Jesus than most historical events we take for granted

Wow... this sounds like my kind of church. Finally. I started to fear that no church would accept me or my beliefs because they are unique, but yet I still consider myself Christian. I simply looked for churches that mostly resembled my beliefs but let me come without harassment.
This seems very nice. I just wish that more churchs were like this. I might actually go and be open minded. It shows the goodness that can come from belief. It becomes tiresome when im looked at as inferior because I dont believe. It happens all the time. But anyways I like this video.

The reason I stopped "going" to Church is because I do not agree with its teachings. The Church teaches that women are supposed to be subservient to men. That grace and faith are fine, but that our works prove our faith. That they are above us and we need them to teach us about God.
I disagree with each of these things. But I am not allowed to discuss them. All they do is tell me they're right and I'm wrong.

it's important to go to church because God said Faith comes by hearing. God asked how will they hear unless they have a preacher Hebrews 10? So Faith comes by hearing from your pastor. And pastors were placed over flocks so that they might shepherd them. Also God said without faith it's IMPOSSIBLE to please Him. So putting these factors together, without church it's safe to say it's amlost impossible to please Him, because how will you know how to FAITH in somebody you know nothing about....

@bagchun Surely you're not suggesting that churches don't pay taxes? You'd be wrong in that assumption. Churches pay out property taxes, income taxes and FICA on non clergy staff (clergy pay 100% of their own on salary and all other benefits including when provided utilities and housing), etc. The average church is just rolling over what is offered by way of tithes and gifts to be used for ministry within and beyond its walls.

And better yet, he's the only god who's shown great, unconditional love for us. He's the only one who paid such a great price for a relationship with him.

I was stating how the church has a long history of intolerance, and if it weren't for secular thought, it would still be persecuting today (witches come to mind). As for there being no other gods in human form is wrong. Almost every kind of god humans could think of has been (or is) in human form and some of them came down to us giving us stuff, knowledge, or impregnating women. A virgin birth is a very common theme in religions.

Islam and christianity are completley different - islam came 500 years after christianity, and the bible was the first document to record jesus' life and what he did. Many muslims actually read the bible to get a better understanding of jesus.
Therefore, i don't take mohammed's word for it. You cannot compare the two like that - two different 'religions', two different messages.

The qu'ran's record of Jesus' life is almost the opposite of the Bible's record. Because the new testament was (beggining to be) written just a few years after Jesus, we can trust this as somewhat reliable. I am saying that because the Qu'ran came 500 years after Jesus and gave an account of him, we can trust this as being unreliable.
There are also historic documents that correlate positively with events that happened in the bible.

1) I don't believe in anything that can't be demonstrated in reality.
2) Archaic rituals of human sacrifice disturb me.
3) I'm not into masochism.
4) I like sex, science, and gays.
5) I don't need salvation. I prefer to just live.

I also think there is a big difference between accepting a person and agreeing with their actions. @littleun1990 You may want to look into the Skeptic's Annotated Bible. It is a collection of bible verses grouped into categories like violent, absurd, homosexuality, women, intolerance, contradictions, and so on... It does not use any outside sources just bible quotes. You can look them up in your own copy if you want more info on context. As an atheist who has read the bible in the past I use it as a nice reference for quoting the bible. Like my personal favourite verse Deu 22: 28- 29. Enjoy!

@truth1disciple Where did I say we are to support ungodly churches? Further where did I say you should attend entertainment based churches? If you are born again 2 Cor 6:17-18 are pretty much a way of life already. If they are not preaching all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God and that only through Jesus Christ can we believe and repent to be saved then indeed abandon such congregations.

@BrotherMichael1000 Understood then sir. @ Cor. 6:14-18;7:1 IS NOT being taught or preach in the majority of churches today, neither is the making of disciples commanded by Jesus in Luke 14:25-33. This "easy believism" and "cheap grace" modern churchianity as opposed to the "costly grace" of Luke 14:26-33 emphasis on verse 28 is espoused.

@BrotherMichael1000 Yes my brother, the problem is with this innovative water down gospel started by Rick Warren of Purpose Driven Life and Church fame has "crept in unawares" to the churches in America, and Satan being their master of deception, and author of confusion has gradually used this seeker friendly, non-offensive , McChurch style gospel to draw in the crowds who desire a "form of godliness, but without its power [cf.2 Tim.3:5]. Therefore, the modern Church in America has TURNED AWAY

Honestly bro, when was the last time you heard someone preach/teach on "biblical" discipleship, on the verses found in Luke 14:26-33; Matt. 10:34-39 or even the verses in Matt. 16:24-25. No wonder Matthew 7:13-14 says, "...MANY enter the broad way, and ...FEW enter the narrow way", because the cost of following Jesus Christ as a "disciple", not church (social club) member is too great and many today desire "churchianity". STAND!

Churches are to political for me.. to "vote like I say .. after all you shouldn't support the devil" kinda corruption.

The Church is a place for sheep to congregate and listen to the same mind deteriorating drivel as ancient peoples once had. However, unlike the ancients, their choice to believe such antiquated beliefs is inexcusable today because of an insurmountable amount of evidence disproving such beliefs. While the rest of the world moves forward in to the future, religious followers such as Christians are stuck thousands of years in the past hoping their blind devotion is rewarded in death. Such a waste.

Why do so many Christians get angry when they have a different belief than another Christian? They use all CAPS and sometimes call names. They tell the person they are headed for Hell and God will judge them. Why not love and state your case but do it in a graceful way? It's no wonder so many people don't want anything to do with Christianity. Jesus is amazing but His followers, not so much.

My problems with church, which influenced my athiesim. One, they still conform to dogmatic ideals. Two, they still invoke fear indoctranation, basicly conform to theology and dont question if you do your a heritic. Three, they try and make you fill guilty for living a more seculer life so you can conform into theology, sex bad, mastrubation bad, metal music bad, punk music bad, evolution bad, being a free thinker bad. It's sad, they are trying to shove their authority down everyone!

@pbrskater26 As far as the "Don't question our doctrine" view, that is a corrupted view of Christianity, and if you run into a church that is like that, no matter what, even if someone sees eye to eye with that church's doctrine, they should avoid that kind of church. As far as the secular lifestyle goes, we don't see sex as bad, but it can be abused. Masturbation and evolution just don't mix with...really most religions' doctrine. Metal and Punk aren't necessarily bad, but we're careful.

Actually, even if there weren't any outside contemporary accounts of Jesus, it doesn't make the Bible untrue. The Holy Spirit (GOD) is the witness that these things were true and in turn God knew what to dictate, through the Holy Spirit, to give to those who wrote it down for us to believe in faith. I know Jesus lives because he is right here in my heart with me, he walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way. The Holy Spirit is the one who convinces you your need, not me...

actually outside the Bible there are multiple accounts of Jesus and his miracles. Non-Christian historians including Tacitus from the mid 60's AD, Pliny the Younger, Josephus, Lucian, & the Babylonian Talmud to name a few. The error many make today is a modern bias when it comes to historical data. They did not have video camera's recording every event, or the internet to spread information in record time. More evidence exists for Jesus than most historical events we take for granted

@Redstick27 Everybody is an athest - until they find God. Anyone can find a religion; that hasnothing to do with God. You can give money to church, and that may not have anything to do with God. Giving your life to the Lord Jesus Christ, has everything to do with God. If you don't, maybe, just maybe you are not chosen. Love, James

actually, outside of the bible, not one account of Jesus' stories were written down by any contemporary historian. This guy was turning water to wine, bringing people back from the death, and NOBODY outside of his followers wrote anything down??? Peculiar ain't it.
And even if he had existed, so what? how does that prove he is the son of god?

Wow... this sounds like my kind of church. Finally. I started to fear that no church would accept me or my beliefs because they are unique, but yet I still consider myself Christian. I simply looked for churches that mostly resembled my beliefs but let me come without harassment.

This seems very nice. I just wish that more churchs were like this. I might actually go and be open minded. It shows the goodness that can come from belief. It becomes tiresome when im looked at as inferior because I dont believe. It happens all the time. But anyways I like this video.
