Graphical? Taxman is behind the entire engine running the game, literally this game was rebuilt from scratch to support widescreen and a constant 60fps as well as a few other enhanced features. The tails sprites were handled by another individual though.

@InsanimationStudios Yes, I've noticed them as well. The silky-smooth Special Stages with smoothly scaling (yet still obnoxious and hard to hit) UFO's is much appreciated. Still have issues with the jumbled level design and *sigh*, WACKY WORKBENCH.
another fun fact: it was one fan that added all the new features. sega originally had no plans to release this but this guy started a campaign on his website. he got an law order, but sega still wouldn't do it, so he decided to do it himself using the original game, it took him a few years and then went back to sega and they bought it off him.
This was propably the best port I've ever seen. The physics feel betterm the framerate is perfect and they did a unbelievably good job on adding Tails to the game. I hope the next Sonic games have the hand of those guys...
The only thing that saddens about this is that the main programmer behind this "taxman" was considering adding the 2 missing levels, making Sonic CD truly complete. But someone at sonic team said no and to keep the game "close to it's original form". I hope for dlc or something but...meh. Other than that everything is here great.
@Desilent49: To clarify...the Sonic CD released in 1993 was a complete game. It was never incomplete to begin with. Desert Dazzle and Final Fever would have been BRAND NEW CONTENT EXCLUSIVE TO THIS DIGITAL RELEASE. Considering that the digital team at Sega is working on Sonic 4 Episode 2 right now, the chances of seeing this content as DLC (if at all) are very slim.
@loquendero6231 I agree he is a cute little bastard. Even with the contrasting art styles, S3&K Tails is a far better secondary character in this game than the gangly derpy version we were forced to play as in the Advance series and unfortunately in Episode 2 I'm sure.
Funny that you mention funky, because some of the music is memorizing. Metallic Madness (Bad future *American) sounds like a metallic hell, while the Japanese version is just evil. But not because of the Microsoft Sam lyrics, but the melody itself.
Well, Tails is an extra character here. There's no other story, or what ifs, just an extra optional to be played in the game which is never a bad thing.
@sonimario2000, @Desilent49 This re-release with the Tails add-on is like the game "Sonic and Tails" (Sonic Chaos in the US). I actually like the idea, because they are trying to make it similar to that game... somehow.
@Thatquebecdude They do give a bonus everytime, but not always extra time for the stage. They often can give rings (extra score, may lead to an extra life), or speedshoes. So this version has the same features as the original game.
This can be seen in /watch?v=jcixUYuOJTg for instance.
Indeed it is - unlocking Tails as a playable character is one of the new special features added to this release, and you get him by beating the game once as Sonic :D
When Tails is in the Past or Future, look at the P or F icon in the left corner. I love it :) One of those little touches I think only a fan would add.

It's the Original Japanese version of the special stage music. To put it simply, when Sonic CD was brought over seas, all but the Past version of each stage, and the menus had their music changed.

It's the subtle effects you have to appreciate.
Objects that used to appear and disappear every other frame to give the impression of transparency now actually are transparent.

@Thatquebecdude They do give a bonus everytime, but not always extra time for the stage. They often can give rings (extra score, may lead to an extra life), or speedshoes. So this version has the same features as the original game.

Indeed it is - unlocking Tails as a playable character is one of the new special features added to this release, and you get him by beating the game once as Sonic :D

When Tails is in the Past or Future, look at the P or F icon in the left corner. I love it :) One of those little touches I think only a fan would add.

@Desilent49 That palmtree panic music and the stage finishing music I don't recognize it I am talking about the other Music that it was Originaly when I played this game back on the Sonic Gems Collection on Sonic CD I guess what I mean by regular is American I think If I am not mistaken

It's the Original Japanese version of the special stage music. To put it simply, when Sonic CD was brought over seas, all but the Past version of each stage, and the menus had their music changed.

Right at the main menu there's a sound track option, you can pick either the US or JPN soundtrack there.

@Desilent49 thank god at least now whenever I get this downloaded when I get 1600 more microsoft points at least now I know I can do my own let's play of this with Tails with the music that I think Is Better which is the American one but That's just my opinion. I would just rather play it with the music I recognize when I played it for the first time many many years ago. now I am relieved I can choose the music. thanks for the info. I needed that.
