  • I've "modified" this (meaning readymade puff pastry isn't available where i live) into a general stew; same ingredients, just sans the pastry lids and with carrots, peas and a dash of turmeric for color.

  • @EmpressJudge13 not sure where you live, but if you are in the u.s. they sell it in the frozen section of places like walmart, whole foods market etc

    Chicken thighs have more iron in them so are healthier for growing kids.

  • Finally got most of the ingredients to do this! I don't have the puff pastry or the ramekins, so I'm just going to make this a chicken stew.

  • i love these ideas that nigella gives me. i never thought of doing something like this until nigella showed me that i could easily make chicken pot pie. I love making this after cooking roasted chicken the night before (which is why i enjoy making two chickens at a time for the leftovers) and roasted vegetables. I just need to add the puff pastry to the top and save the juices that come out from the roasted chickens. brilliant!

  • I just made this for my family for dinner and I'd just like to say....OH MY GOODNESS!!! It was so incredibly good!! Next time I think I'll sauté some carrots and add a few peas, other than that it was mahhhhhvelous!!!

  • @anubisval I appreciate Nigella's Express Tips and enjoy hearing and trying them. As a professional chef, you would know that making your own chicken stock and preparing pastry dough is not very difficult and the time it takes is well worth the difference in taste. If restaurants around the world were preparing chicken pot pie with shortcuts presented in this clip, it lowers the esteem I've held for chefs.

  • @hedwig85 most restaurants do make their own stocks. its more cost effective, as for the puff pastry its very easy to overwork the gluten in the dough. also producing the dough on a smaller scale isn't cost effective when you factor in labor. but i guess you cant expect much knowledge from a foodie.

  • I normally enjoy Nigella's recipes, but on this one she cuts too many corners. The bullion or chicken concentrate puts me off. Fresh chicken stock would be much better. Also instant crusts use preservatives, you can taste it. It is not that difficult to roll out your own pastry crust and enjoy the home made flavor & texture.

  • @hedwig85 She intentionally cut corners as this was a segment from her show Nigella Express which are quick and easy meals. Cutting corners was the whole point :)

  • @mzcrazyhunnii I appreciate her Express Tips and enjoy hearing about and trying them. However in this case, the corners she cut, has sacrificed quality of flavor. I would be embarrassed to serve that to my dinner guests.

    Not everyone can handle mushrooms. I'm allergic to mushrooms and get a nauseas stomach and headache upon eating them. If I am visiting someone who is baking yeast dough (spinach pie, pizza, bread), I can't stop coughing and get a bad sinus headache.

  • that chicken is not cooked enough for me. although thighs are tasty, they require a good deal of cooking to make tender.

  • the thighs were boneless and skinless and cut into small pieces so they would not take as much time as a full size skin on-bone in thigh.Also they cannot show actual cooking time on TV.Apart from that, 20 minutes in the oven is enough to cook small pieces of chicken.
