Once you do you will find it much easier.It also helps to grind a lot so that you can upgrade weapons. Once you maxed out the dragon sword it's ultimate technique will make it fun to slice and dice enemies.As is the flying swallow technique.

Looking at the gameplay in this video i can see why he keeps getting killed so often, hes just trying to overpower enemies and completely ignores defense, thats not gonna cut it in dark souls, you gotta be smart more than anything, its not necessarily skill.
I have no problems with the controls or the difficulty, the biggest thing i can tell you is to have your shield up during combat anytime you are not attacking.
How does this game compare to Demon's Souls? I personally didn't find Demon's souls as hard as everyone says it is... I finished at aroung 17-18 hours and didnnt die all that much lol, no stupid walkthroughs and etc. btw, thanks! really look forward to this game, might get it soon (:

Its one of the best games I have ever played 40 hours game time played, and it has a great atmosphere, enemy variety, and Badass gigantic anime weapons, kill a giant, take his sword. @Aesop70 If you mean things Skyrim does poorly, theres plenty of them. Repetitive, boring fetch quests make up the bulk of the game. The main quest line has a terrible story and is poorly done. Vendors only having a set number of gold, and then they only replenish if you use "wait" for 48 hours is ridiculous. The insta-kill animations that are supposed to be cool are very poorly done and look awful. Both magic and physical combat is repetitive easy. The entire skill tree setup is very flawed...
@Aesop70 Continuing on the skill tree,I dont like the way levelingskills works at all.If I put points into smithing and branch up to Glass smithing, I still have to sit there and level up my smithing skill before I can even make the anything. Why not just base it on "if youre level 30, you can use Glass"? Why make me put points in it, and then sit there and make 300 iron daggers just to level up 1 skill enough to use one of my skills? The level and skillsystem is my biggest gripe with the game.
@brqde1319 O ok, that does make sense :P i actually never go into the smithing tree or any of the other professions because it seemed like a waste of points!. So i do see where you are coming from. Then again when i went to my brothers, he showed me his save and his character is leet as hell because he spent so much time smithing epic gear :D so honestly its not all bad.

This game is a refreshing change of pace. Compare this game to a game like Fable 2 for example. Fable 2 you can just slash your way through, no need to actually understand how to block and evade attacks. Maybe just maybe have to use a health potion every now and then. If you did the same strategy in Dark Souls you would get absolutely destroyed. I haven't finished this one yet, but I did finish Demon's Souls. At the end of that I felt like I had actually accomplished something.

@CJ2i3 If you do not PROGRESS then yes, dying will become repetitive. However as you learn the levels the learning curve falls, and as long as you can handle >Block -> Strike you'll get to juicier and juicer parts of the game. If you have difficulty with a game like God of War however, I wouldn't recommend picking up Dark Souls. And yes, yes it is a challenge

Little do I know what Ive gotten myself into, but I feel I'm a player that learns from my mistakes and adapts. A game isn't cheap if YOU fail to make good of how the game handles certain mechanics such as dying or winning.

@misterdon666 I hate that! Games these days are just made for HDTVs, so although I haven't played this title, before I got my HDTV I used to be squinting constantly to make out text in games. Even some Wii games, like MadWorld, have this problem (not Mario Galaxy, though)! Now that I've got an HDTV, I can't go back. I feel like you can't even fully appreciate the visuals of modern games on smaller, cheaper, SD TVs.
I didn't have an HDMI cable for this game so I went to the catacombs first (before the patch to have skeletons give you souls) and I almost made it to the boss and I said there has to be another way I'm missing this shit is hard. the game got way easier after that lol

Its difficult but not cheap thats what makes it good because you know its your own fault if you fuck up(there are a few glitchs but rare). Devil May Cry 3 is more difficult then this game in my opinion and many other games. My advice dont treat it like a hack and slash,level up your armor and weapons,get the drake sword,learn from your deaths.

@misereiko666 I dont know why im even responding to this. Both Dark Souls and Skyrim are great games, and honestly not very similar games besides the fantasy setting. I prefer Dark Souls because i love the challenge and it has a really amazing online feature that fits perfectly into the single player without being needed to enjoy the game. I think the combat is better in Dark Souls and the fact you can battle other real people with your character adds plenty of replay value.
If you wanna play this game and you wanna play pyromancer do this:get through undead burg beat the demon on the bridge and get to the fire breathing dragon guarding a bridge, you can go under the bridge and shoot his tail with arrows(20-30)and you will get a high level sword.you will need to have 16strenght and 14dex. Last go to the depths enterance were the butchers are and there will be a room full of jugs break them and a pyromancer merch is inside he will appear at firelink shrine after.
I loved the game in the beginning and after 25-30 hours in it, now I just lost all motivation to play it... Especially now that I get cursed and have to farm souls to get decursed etc. rinse repeat... I felt like I'm missing out on other great games just to grind here.. It really made me sad to put down :(
the beauty of this game. The area in which you reviewed it is only but a dot on the map ... after you leave the undead burg/parish areas ... the game is massive!

@Aesop70 If you mean things Skyrim does poorly, theres plenty of them. Repetitive, boring fetch quests make up the bulk of the game. The main quest line has a terrible story and is poorly done. Vendors only having a set number of gold, and then they only replenish if you use "wait" for 48 hours is ridiculous. The insta-kill animations that are supposed to be cool are very poorly done and look awful. Both magic and physical combat is repetitive easy. The entire skill tree setup is very flawed...

@Aesop70 Continuing on the skill tree,I dont like the way levelingskills works at all.If I put points into smithing and branch up to Glass smithing, I still have to sit there and level up my smithing skill before I can even make the anything. Why not just base it on "if youre level 30, you can use Glass"? Why make me put points in it, and then sit there and make 300 iron daggers just to level up 1 skill enough to use one of my skills? The level and skillsystem is my biggest gripe with the game.

@brqde1319 O ok, that does make sense :P i actually never go into the smithing tree or any of the other professions because it seemed like a waste of points!. So i do see where you are coming from. Then again when i went to my brothers, he showed me his save and his character is leet as hell because he spent so much time smithing epic gear :D so honestly its not all bad.

This game is a refreshing change of pace. Compare this game to a game like Fable 2 for example. Fable 2 you can just slash your way through, no need to actually understand how to block and evade attacks. Maybe just maybe have to use a health potion every now and then. If you did the same strategy in Dark Souls you would get absolutely destroyed. I haven't finished this one yet, but I did finish Demon's Souls. At the end of that I felt like I had actually accomplished something.

ill get this when the game goes to 30 or 20 bucks. i did tht with demon sousl and honestly i think demon souls was overhyped. its good but the hard part is getting to the boss. the online messaging stuff was great but the whole invasion of your world by other people is just annoying.

better graphics better combat more weapons better level design the levels connecting with each other instead of the nexus works really well the limited spells and potions forces you to get good at combat (which i never did in demons souls) making you fight bosses the way your supposed to fight them

@CJ2i3 If you do not PROGRESS then yes, dying will become repetitive. However as you learn the levels the learning curve falls, and as long as you can handle >Block -> Strike you'll get to juicier and juicer parts of the game. If you have difficulty with a game like God of War however, I wouldn't recommend picking up Dark Souls. And yes, yes it is a challenge

Little do I know what Ive gotten myself into, but I feel I'm a player that learns from my mistakes and adapts. I definitely expect to die, though I hope I don't get to the point where I want to break the disk. Over all happy I bought it, still not sure what um getting myself into.

@CJ2i3 dying can get repetitive and i assure you the thought "wow this shits impossible am i seriously expected to do that" will cross you mind. 2 boss battles in particular will have you saying that (probably) but i don't wanna spoil. if your decent at video games your capable of beating this game and even if your not you could always grind out levels until your strong enough to kill a boss with stats but that takes forever. but this games fair. once you learn to dodge you can do anything

same as in demon's souls you die, die alot, but as you die and die even some more the game teaches you to survive, u learn the enimies, their positions, the traps, the corridors and you master the level. then the boss, same goes for him and then there you got it u beet that part.

People say that this is a game that seperates the casual gamers from the hardcore gamers. I won't necessarily say that I consider that true per se, but I do believe it's the kind of game that can really do a good job of defining each gamer in the face of opression and open-mindedness. People who hate it tend to go in with the misconception that winning, losing, and the aspects of dying are all as black and white as other games. That's wrong--

Players who do that are often the ones who either ragequit or just pass it off as cheap. A game isn't cheap if YOU fail to make good of how the game handles certain mechanics such as dying or winning.

@misterdon666 I hate that! Games these days are just made for HDTVs, so although I haven't played this title, before I got my HDTV I used to be squinting constantly to make out text in games. Even some Wii games, like MadWorld, have this problem (not Mario Galaxy, though)! Now that I've got an HDTV, I can't go back. I feel like you can't even fully appreciate the visuals of modern games on smaller, cheaper, SD TVs.

@darktigerx im not going to insult you like the others but im not that great at video games and i beat this game and am on ng+. Its difficult but not cheap thats what makes it good because you know its your own fault if you fuck up(there are a few glitchs but rare). Devil May Cry 3 is more difficult then this game in my opinion and many other games. My advice dont treat it like a hack and slash,level up your armor and weapons,get the drake sword,learn from your deaths.

in dark souls you do not only have to face the virtual enemies, but also the enemy behind the controller. and that is the definition of a game for me. and if you don't want to play a game that challanges you, where you have to turn on your brain and learn from your mistakes, then watch a movie. most of the games where like that back in the days. now developers have to make their games easy and stupid so all those little kiddies don't start crying when the game doesn't let them win.

Dark Souls is the most unique game i have ever played. The intense emotions of love & hate and feelings of overwhelming joy i get in beating boss are mind blowing. No game i have ever played in my gaming years gets into my brain like this. This game get's into my being and all i think about is this game, i feel this game has poss est me. @misereiko666 I dont know why im even responding to this. Both Dark Souls and Skyrim are great games, and honestly not very similar games besides the fantasy setting. I prefer Dark Souls because i love the challenge and it has a really amazing online feature that fits perfectly into the single player without being needed to enjoy the game. I think the combat is better in Dark Souls and the fact you can battle other real people with your character adds plenty of replay value.

If you wanna play this game and you wanna play pyromancer do this:get through undead burg beat the demon on the bridge and get to the fire breathing dragon guarding a bridge, you can go under the bridge and shoot his tail with arrows(20-30)and you will get a high level sword.you will need to have 16strenght and 14dex. Last go to the depths enterance were the butchers are and there will be a room full of jugs break them and a pyromancer merch is inside he will appear at firelink shrine after.

Especially now that I get cursed and have to farm souls to get decursed etc. rinse repeat... I felt like I'm missing out on other great games just to grind here.. It really made me sad to put down :(
