Amazing how many arrows are being fired at the theif when all of the soldiers only seem to be standing around getting tossed and crushed by the machine falling apart around them.
This is without a doubt THE greatest animated movie of all time. Of all time. And thank goodness for the restoration too; I don't think I would have liked the cut versions.
That was a beautiful piece of work. I don't believe this was ever mentioned during my animation classes when i was in college. Just a wonderful work of art.
Lolz XD I LOVE that gag, but I loved Matthew Broderick as Tack too; his voice is just too adorable. I love this and the messed up one from mirimax (I can't help it, it was a huge part of my childhood).
I love that Tack didn't have any lines until the end. But I thought that voice didn't suit him. He struck me as a more timid, unassuming, quiet natured character, and I thought his voice should reflect that, perhaps if it was softer, a little higher pitched, in a whispering tone of voice. Not all deep and macho. But that's just my opinion.
@bloodydove5718 LOL, but it sure looked beautiful. I can't believe they did all that without CGI! Such perspective too, like you really could feel the vertigo.
I love how the Thief is just entirely unfazed about what's happening to him, so long as he gets the balls, that's all that matters. It makes it all the more fun to watch.
Whilst watching this for the billionth time with my fellow animation-loving friends I started wondering about the Thief's flies....if you look closely, they have little Thief heads and robes on them. a. how the fuck did the animators not die of exhaustion drawing those tiny fuckers and b. are they related to the Thief somehow? Are they his children? Does the Thief come from some fucked up giant insect species and has to steal to feed his mutant children?
The theif at 6:42 inner thoughts "That's it, I've enough of this BS for today. Just take those horribly cursed things already. F***!" XD Honestly I like this "giving" away part more than the original, fits more in tune with the theif rather than just giving them to Tac for no reason other than to live.
Seems to me, that this is kinda symbolic of the new age technology, and how we built contraptions to either destroy another, or make our lives easier, and in doing so, we destroy ourselves with what we created. I mean, nothing in that golden city (Utopia) would be capable of such destruction and horror. :l
a lot better than the arabian knight cut. but it's still a shame how much more potential this had. the first part of the movie was just incredible, and then tack changes into this tan guy and everything is mediocre from then on.
i think the movie is more of a visual treat than a story one. i'll agree that the story is quite weak, but it's stunning to look at and the sound is amazing as well. all in all, i didn't regret seeing it, but it could have been better. i think we can ALL agree that it was better than the version with... songs...
The Thief steals the show during the last 10 minutes of the film where the animation is going all pyrotechnic and the orchestra is blaring.....and then in the final scene he LITERALLY steals the show (being a thief and all) and vanishes into the negative space.
fucking brilliant....I'm practically moved to tears by the brilliance of the idea.....what a way to end such a great film.
I've never seen either version of this film until now... and I have to say I'm glad I watched this one first. Had this version had a chance to truely shine in theaters, it would have become an instant classic without a doubt. I'm shocked that I had never heard of this film until just a few days ago.

Jesus this was incredible, fucking incredible and I loved tag's voice he aint said a word and it just nailed it at the end exactly how I thought he would sound , didnt realize it was sean connery.
But man Zig Zag had a grim demise and Vincent Price was magically as his voice. Anyone else see the similarities with colouring and style with samurai jack? I really could see it having a huge impact on him and I thought the theif reminded me of the thing in Ice Age that goes mad for its prices.
Very impressive. Must have been a hell of work to complete such a complex animation frame by frame, without using the computer. Respect for Mr. Williams & his team.
voice sounded fine was a bit decraded but I thought his voice sounded incredible watched it again just to here his voice man, epic the voice didnt disappoint me.
@Henbot The voice does sound a little degraded but that's part of the reason it works, it sounds very retro, lol. And it's a great pay off after waiting for the character to speak for the whole story. :)
This was just lovely to look at, I can't even begin to comprehend how long it must off took the animators to draw this fram by fram. I really don't want to sound rude or anything, but other than the art and the amazing climax... there isn't much of a story. I think that if they focused just a bit more on the story the film would have been perfect in every way. I really enjoyed it, but I think there should of been more conflict throughout. Thanks so much for uploading! :)
The whole scene plays out like some crazy ass dream. I've had nightmares like this, with myself travelling through some demented rube-goldeberg machine.

The War Machine was destroyed by its own devices.
Zigzag became undone by the works of his own manipulation.
One=Eye, now powerless, is overtaken by the servants he abused.
All evil perishes under the weight of its own power. This movie rocks.
