That's a good question. The health meter is actually the health for the space time continuum and not the player's ship. Rick made it through the previous space battle without ever getting hit, so if you do get hit, the space time continuum takes damage due to the temporal inconsistency.

This game looks nice but im kinda confused. So there's no normal shooter elements? Is it just like a rhythm game. Or is it like you play the game first one way then the other?
The entire game is played backwards, so it's a rhythm game with the exciting visuals of a backwards shooter. We are adding some cool elements from shooters in order to add an interesting twist to the rhythm game genre. We'll be showing off some more cool stuff at the IGF at GDC.
What are you planning to add? Because atm it has nothing really to compeate against other rythemgames.
I have a good idea. A versus mode. 1 Player play a bit of normal space shooting (some kind of restrictions are required to make good gameplay) then the other player is gonna do it in reverse, and so they take turns. Id like to see that. Because right now I don't see anything that could make this game popular. Except for the graphics but we all know that isn't enough most of the time
This game is really really fun. It's an excellent blend of traditional shooter and rhythm game. It's unfortunate that my computer blows causing me to not see the menu (the shadows come up so with guessing I can manage to get in a game) and my ship looks cel shaded. However, while in, I think it's a whole lot of fun to play both with the keyboard and with a guitar controller (360 GH2 for me). Congrats guys on the IGF nod (I voted for you!) and I hope it all turns out great!
Thank you very much for your kind words! It's very encouraging. What video card do you have? It probably doesn't support the shader features we are using, but if you let me know what it is, I can see if it's possible to support it for a later build. Hopefully we'll be able to release it on Xbox 360 though, so people won't have to worry about hardware requirements.
Oh I'm sure my card doesn't support the shaders. I'm using an ATI Xpress 200 (yeah, I know it's old). I manage very well though with everything running on the Source engine, and we have a couple of WoW addicts in the house as well. I know that you would like to support as many systems as possible, but don't sacrifice this awesome game for anything. Just a note: I would buy R/G instantly on any of the current-gen systems if you end up putting it there.
That's a very good question. Presently, we are not planning on doing forks in time. However, we support many difficulties, so there will be plenty of patterns for you to master.
That's a good question. You play through it backwards (the lasers come towards you and you have to catch them), but there's a power up that changes the direction of time that you use by holding down a button. You can't control your ship when you are using this power up. When you have rewound time long enough to undo your mistake, you can release the button and resume playing from that earlier point.
This game looks really fun! I'd love to see it on XBLA or PSN. I love the sound when direction of time's flow changes. It sounds just like playing with a turn table!
What are you talking about no1msd? This looks really awesome. It seems like a unique twist on a rhythm game. The ability to back up time and do over sections is pretty clever. I wish Rock Band/Guitar Hero had that!
I'm sorry to hear that you don't think it looks fun. Do you like other rhythm games? Although it appears to be a shooting game, it plays like a rhythm game, so if that genre doesn't appeal to you, then you may not enjoy it. Another thing to keep in mind is that it may actually be fun when you are the one playing it. Do you have any suggestions to make the game more appealing? Thanks!

Wait... Shouldn't you start out with low health, which gets raised when you hit a laser?

Okay, thanks for the reply!
The game looks very cool, and I hope it gets the attention it deserves when it launches.

Haha i wanna play it! Looks good, I know how hard it is to make a original/good game. I think this one will be great to play!

I'm glad you want to play! We submitted a build for the IGF Audience Award contest, so there will be a public build that you can try out soon.

Reminds me very much of the ending of Braid. I'm worried though that there might not be enough variety of gameplay.
Would it be possible to have forks in time, kind of like quantum splits? Otherwise, there would only be one way to play any particular sequence.
