I think they tried to push too many 'faces' at the viewer. The whole notion of this large team being a family. And not just 'A' family, but your own surrogate family. With a crazy (and disturbingly conflicting) emphasis on sex appeal.
With retrospect, the initial GMTV format was extremely similar to the original Breakfast Time on the BBC in the early 80's. But where the BBC got it right, GMTV just came across as forced, false and actually a little bit creepy.
I thank you for your comments, and agree with you. It seems ITV has never really made any significant inroads into breakfast telly. Even 'Daybreak' is sadly lacking!.
Yes, he has had more than just a 'few' pies. He is still an excellent TV presenter - know matter how big he is!. Eamonn has just married his long standing partner - Good Luck to them both.
I've never seen GMTV - I know, hard to believe, but I always thought it was a very 'celebrity' / Hello type of station. It looks as though it started out rather 'newsy' back in 1993.
Yes, I think it was rather News focused when it started. It had to compete with BBC 'Breakfast' which was, and to a very large degree still is, of that ilk. It still concentrates on the hype of so called 'celebrities' a very misused word if ever there was one! Thank You for your comments.
Lorraine Kelly lived a strange double life in late 1992.
She had one image as a presenter for TV-am, then a totally different one, complete with specs, for GMTV rehearsals, which were being made at the same time TV-am was still the breakfast provider.
So TV-am finished with Lorraine having the former look, and GMTV started a day later with Lorraine permanently (for a while, anyway) adopting the other.
Very very odd. Or maybe just a dedicated fan of Superman. Who knows?
Interesting that they had a Christmas tree up even though they started on 1st January. They probably would have taken it down by the following Monday, so I've always thought "was it worth having one on day one?" I am no Scrooge of course as I love Christmas!
They said on the video 4 days but did that happen?

You have got that right!, Mind you he is a fair bit older, most of us 'spread out' a bit with the ageing process!
Thanks for your comment.

"Last night millions of American television viewers tuned in for the very last episode of Cheers!"
"Not us, because we were both asleep weren't we?
"We were, yes. After ten years and 271 episodes..."
