They could recruit combat veterans from around the world with the promise of hard training and constant combat and after five years service citizenship if they wanted it.
But they would spend very little time if any in the US and would have a bottom up command structure.
Light fighter commandos trained to a very high level who wouldn't be to afraid to take casualties if needed and the press back home would balk at their losses.
Restructure the Military. We shouldn't have a Standing Army. We should have the Navy that should fill the role of the Coast Guard, with an elite group of Marines (like SEALS). And a Reserve (Militia), that can be called up in times of war.
@SrgGoofy We cannot get by just with a shallow depth amphibious army doing raids; land maneuver inland is required to topple enemy nation-state governments by defeating their armies or simply to reach far enough in to take-out key enemy facilities and long-range weapons or sub-national groups; 2D and 3D air-land maneuver not just air-sea maneuver; professional SEALs are not possible in the narcissistic USMC
@dynmicpara I agree, but why can't a New Marine force spear head an assault by reserve ground forces? The New Marines should be Sea Air AND Land. BTW I'm Army, so I'm not promoting the USMC, just pointing out that the Constitution forbids a standing army, but says we must maintain a Navy.
@SrgGoofy We can and we should. I advocate exactly what you do; a TRUE naval maneuver force without the mental block of packing men in vulnerable surface ships; air-land-sea deployment options at full strength.
I get the feeling that the modern British Commandos are a far cry from these guys

@cas343 Then you would be Most definetley Wrong !
1981 the young Marine commandos marched 100 Miles carrying all their kit, then fought a battle
Falklands War, They subdued Sangin, Afghaniistan,
They are One set of Hardmen, even today !!

Very interesting video. If I was a Staff General I would get that training instructor back to look at what we are doing in Afghanistan.

What the US needs is a Foreign Legion.
