PETA is an animal rights organisation, not an animal shelter. The vast majority of animals PETA accepts are aged, fatally injured, or terminally ill. Healthy adoptable animals are referred to no-kill shelters.
For the greater good of an animal with nothing to look forward to but a slow, agonising death, the only humane option is a peaceful, dignified release from suffering. Allowing animals with no hope of recovery to languish in agony for weeks or months is inexplicably inhumane.

PETA is an animal rights organisation, not an animal shelter. The vast majority of animals PETA accepts are aged, fatally injured, or terminally ill. Healthy adoptable animals are referred to no-kill shelters.
For the greater good of an animal with nothing to look forward to but a slow, agonising death, the only humane option is a peaceful, dignified release from suffering. Allowing animals with no hope of recovery to languish in agony for weeks or months is inexplicably inhumane.

PETA also provides FREE vet care, dog houses, food, toys, grooming, swivel lines, flea, tick and heartworm medication for animals in the surrounding communities of North Carolina and Virginia.

100,000 animals are suffocated to death in North Carolina's gas chamber every year. This death is slow, frightening, and takes 30 minutes, where animals are heard crying and clawing at the chamber to get out.

Humane Societies and SPCAs are in the business of sheltering society's abandoned animals, but they do not take in fatally injured or terminally ill animals whose guardians want to give their companion a HUMANE release. PETA provides that desperately needed service for FREE, unlike other shelters, who profit from euthanasia.

i am against animal cruelty, but that doesn't necessarily mean i'm pro- PETA. they have their own contradictions when it comes to euthanasia, i am my own animal-rights activist by going vegetarian, boycotting leather and fur, adopting a stray puppy from a local animal shelter, and volunteering at a local spca.
