It's been a while since I've seen Ryu play at that level. He just can't do it anymore. Don't know if it's his equipment or his practice schedule, but he's in a free fall where world ranking is concerned.

I think the reason why he stopped playing so good was because he became Olympic Champion, after that he was like ya, I can beat everybody if I want to and stopped practicing as much as he used to before the olympics. Seems very probable.

in korea if you win the gold at the olympics, your career is pretty much over. thats the goal of every player and he got it so he doesnt have to do anything anymore. if u win gold in korea, ppl respect and your like "done." i saw him practice like 2 years ago in korea. his style of playing doesnt last long either. he prob getting ready to retire from interantional play and coach..

his equipment is one reason cuz the speed glue ban affected him a lot and XIOM just... sucks (no offense im korean). if he stayed with butterfly then maybe. hes done. his style of playing is too hard to maintain. hes getting old and his body doesnt follow as much.. he'll prob coach now.

@TTPokemonLover yup. Look at Liqin's game he too has fallen short of his rankings. He has a lot of talent so he can stay in the top 10, but the #1 spot is pretty much impossible without his speed glue.

@Mythyrian without speed glue, the racket lacks in power and Ryu's game is based in power or speed. After the speed glue era all rackets lost a lots of power and gained much control. That's why Ryu's forhand loops arent that effectiv as it was back in the days. If theres is a rubber with the same speed like in the speed glue time, ryu would play like in this match...
