Lovely to stay and listen. Great musicians and an excellent performance. Oh yes, watching this makes me yealous and very homesick. But anyway, thanks for sharing. Jim
@jojo5256 - my grandfather used "rosin" on his fingers to pull the horses hair from the top of their tails (you don't cut the hair). When tidying them up for shows.
@sainglain Interesting. My grandfather used horses on his farm. Had to auction off his farm in the 1950s. I'm too young to have known well. Never knew he was a fiddler until many years after he'd moved to the next life. Do you know if these are new tunes?
@jojo5256 They are old tunes. The first reel was a fav. of Denis Murphy & Julia Clifford...great fiddle players from Kerry. The second reel is associated with Mick. Hand ..powerful flute player. The last reel "The Midnight Reel" was made popular by the Castle Ceili Band in the 60's. The Castle were made up of folks like John Kelly,Joe Ryan, James Keane, Seán Keane now with the Chieftains etc..etc.
@jojo5256 If you do a search on Y.T. for some of the names mentioned...you'll know what I'm talking about...Legends...that kept the music alive when it was "neither popular or profitable."
@proinsias78 I AM an American fiddler who plays old time music with a buildup of rosin on my fiddle that gets wiped off once a year, maybe. Seems most American(?) fiddlers today are classically trained and tend to wipe the rosin off after each playing as they wish to keep their fiddle's finish as pristine as possible, imho. At least that seems to be the case here where I live and play. It's nice to see that I'm not alone in the "rosin buildup" department! ;D
It means a lot to me--an American with Clare roots--to see this. I can count the times I've been to Cruises on one hand, each memorable. Thank You! Up the Banner-man!
In my next life I would love to be a musician like this. In this life I'm just a very happy listener to the videos you share.

Me too, but don't know if I would be a fiddler or box player. Ah, yes a box player - there are too may 'fiddlers' in this country.
