  • can you just use invisible blacklight ink?

  • awseome!!

  • how hot does the iron need to be and is it a good finish?

  • man..are you nervous while making this video??

  • BRO YOU EAT HUMANS?

  • Poor printer :D

  • TOP SECRET !!

    HERES THE MESSAGE:

    .

  • hey it's my old printer!

  • the dude is shaking so much

  • i cant get access to true lemon in my country so??????????

  • @DoItYourselfMaker See if you can find crystalized lemon.

  • @DoItYourselfMaker Just use coffee creamer, it gives the same effect.

  • hes shaking like hell

  • that's my printer

  • Are you OK, because your shaking like you have parkinsons :(

  • what a waste of fucking time

  • Can you make all the sponges lemon juice?

  • its matt bond

  • his hands are shaking too much..

  • what is that program he used to print???

  • @RedBuit02 pixelmator on a mac

  • does this werck your printer? cuz i think it sort of will...

  • @suiseiseki2007 use an old printer. Recycling is fun.

  • Why Yellow?

  • @luigi90900 Cause it's the lightest ink. I think you could use Blue instead but you'll have to print more pages to clean the ink nozzle ;)

  • cant u also use a blue light? well technicallya black light but u no the thing they use on csi

  • in japan, (where i live) there is a better one. its invisible ink that could be only seen under blue laser light, so it will remain secret even if you looked @ the message. this 1 is only single use. thums up!

  • I would love to see this button featured on Chuck

  • I've always used the oven instead of an iron...

  • Is there a way to crystallize lemon yourself?

  • @daniyellowjello You can use actual lemon.

  • @Serostern No you cant ....did you listen to the video? it says "normal lemon isnt strong enough for this project you need to use something concentrated.

  • @daniyellowjello Yes you can.

  • i have that same printer

  • verry cooool!!

  • Hahah that's an old one. I used it a lot as a kid with my friends xD

  • I got an awesome idea! Fill the red sponge with the revealing solution in the same way as the lemon liquid so you can reveal other hidden messages very quickly!

  • Thats a pretty cewl hack :D

  • does it have to be a jet printer?

  • Ink is expensive I think I'll make that a USED ink cartridge and I could put in other colors too :D

  • i would have liked to have collin do it he has the look of Q as if he were before 007

  • Can I leave out lemon juice and let some of the water to evaporate?

  • Can you do this for every color so that you can kill 3 bird with one stone?

  • Add &vintage=1911 to the end of the url and make sure Closed Captioning is on for the 1911 effect!

  • Hey... I have that printer xD

  • You wont be a surgeon lol.

  • 2:16 ha James bond joke

  • mac adverisement

  • You can also use piss ;)

just piss inside the cartridge :D

  • htt p://gyaz o.co m/a88401a8e9a1cd27d73 c9fd9d0980fbb.png

  • @tippitoverplease no, it is the same thing, the only difference is that there is only one large sponge in a black cartridge. Also, even a tiny amount of black ink would damage the effect and taint the lemon juice. I would recommend putting it into a colour cartridge

  • Do this to empty color and print lighty picture and after that with invisible ink :) if you are familiar with photoediting you can try to findout how message would be best to show using layers... or maybe its not work :D just had idea of art that becomes done just after its arrived

  • Do this to empty color and print lighty picture and after that with invisible ink :) if you are familiar with photoediting you can try to findout how message would be best to show using layers

  • @tippitoverplease no you cant it is to dark

  • SO COOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLL...

    Luv

  • So just replace the yellow

  • Cool... too bad my printer doesn't have this type of cartridge...

  • whats the use of saturating the sponge with lemon juice then dry print yellow coloured page?

  • @tish2609 It flushes out the remaining yellow ink in the nozzle.

  • would the lemon result in parts in the printer corroding given that it is acidic, right?

  • this is a top secret transmision that requires urgent responce:

i have a CANON IP3300 printer that uses ink tanks instead of cartriges. these thank have a puncture valve on the top of them for refilling the tanks yoursef with generic ink using a hyperdermik nedle. if i inject the leamon solution directaly into the empty ink tank, will it still work?

  • sure could, for this sytle of cartridge they are similar construction inside.

  • HEY does UV light work too??

  • Music is depressing...

  • Wow, I didn't know Michael J Fox hosted Make projects!

  • Dem hands be shakin'

  • its fake i tried it doesnt work .. i used the stuff he did but it doesnt work -_- its april fools joke

  • Anyone noticed the "secret code"?

  • since you a spy, your lemon juice should be "shaken not stirred"

  • Damn, I only have a laser printer.

  • where kipkay?

  • wow shaky hands were freaking me out for some reason

  • Holy shit those are some unsteady hands!

Glad to see someone else noted inserting the sponge dry (or mostly dry) and soaking it with the solution after it's inserted in the cartridge.

  • It might be simpler to clean the sponge and insert it dry, then inject your solution with a needle, rather than trying to squish in something soaking wet.

  • @tippitoverplease i think its gonna be way harder to get all the black ink off of the sponge, wile with the yellow its very easyer becouse yellow is a very light color (witch also means that the printer dispenses yellow ink more generously)

  • WOW!

    Its fucking nothing.

  • KIPKAY is my favourite

  • Have a sweet print fool xD

  • @tippitoverplease A black cartridge probably has one big sponge instead of three small ones, requiring more cleaning work and more of the lemon solution?

  • I thought iodine wasn't used as a disinfectant any more.

  • question: there any way to do with a lazer printer?

  • @TheWillsono Inkjet printers squirt ink onto paper, but laser printers fuse black plastic onto paper.

  • @gadgetmanubuntu your reponse is not really useful :(

  • Fun looking DIY that I might actually try. The cheesy spy crap was a bit much tho... could've just said "hey look this is cool"

  • I'll start drawing penises right away.

  • Cool… but why ruin a new ink cartridge? Wouldn't it be better to use an old one that has long since stopped printing color? This seems like a bit of a waist of papper.

  • @SatanistSin it is, he is just depleting the ink in the nozzle, not the cartridge, and no matter how much you use a cartridge, you will never get all the ink out

  • this is what howcast should look like!

  • would this harm the printer in any way?

  • @tippitoverplease the yellow is least likely to be visible because of residue of the old ink.

  • @tippitoverplease yes, use any color ink cartradge, but remember, u have to print out in the same color

(EX. u use a black one, print out inn black ink)

  • Top Secret Headquaters in central of Washington D.C xD lol

  • lol, have you been drinking yesterday? your hands are shaky as hell!

  • @tippitoverplease You could, but you have to print BLACK text instead

  • I can't tell whether this is an April Fool's joke and/or actually works...

  • @CaptainChaos This is a legit hack from MAKE Volume 16. Check the link in the description for the full project instructions. Though perhaps you could use this technique for a prank of some sort...

  • @CaptainChaos its posted Mar 31,

  • @jesperq8 In which timezone?

  • @CaptainChaos well its says it right under the video. Uploaded by makemagazine on Mar 31, 2011

  • @jesperq8 Do you know what time zones are? There are many reasons why the upload date could be March 31st and it still be an April Fool's joke. Maybe it was already April 1st where the uploader was. Maybe they uploaded it as soon as it was April 1st *somewhere in the world*. Maybe they uploaded it *just before* April 1st, to be certain that it would be online on time. Etc...

  • @CaptainChaos I'm 21 ans I used to do this when I was 7yo, so I know for sure it works and its real. you can use the lemon solution to write with art/small painting brushes and draw simple symbols or drawings, let it dry and iron the paper when you want to see the message :)

  • he was shaking heaps....

  • Isn't the lemon solution going to do any damage to the printer??

  • @pegasussan no, but you cant refill the cartridge

  • @tippitoverplease I guess they used yellow cause it's harder for you to see traces of it...

  • Hooray! Now terrorists have a reliable way of secret communication!

  • what happens when you run out then your just gonna give the person a blank piece of paper

  • am i the only one who noticed that mole?

  • you can do the same thing with urine and a candle...

  • man i want kipkay back he's the only reason i watch makemagizine

  • This message did not self destruct?

  • why is that waiter calling me "Agent"?

  • Ha! Cool project for true geeks. Love the bond-like references. "Must be shaken OR stirred".

  • im going to make this, print out a essay with the invisible ink, hand it in with iodine

  • did this a few minutes ago! it's awesome

  • how to ruin your 50$ printer.

  • @tippitoverplease

yeah, but every cartridge is made differently.

  • @higingbotham no hes not but hey i bet you registered for get the laser i bet in that part you like him

  • In other words: how to ruin a $50 ink cartridge and have mold growing inside your printer within a week.

  • @lennyhome

i can get brand new ink cartridge for 10$.

  • @hitachi088 So buy $10 worth of pizza and give it to an homeless guy instead of wasting them on projects as stupid as this one.

  • @lennyhome

i never said that ill make this project.

    where did you read that?

  • @hitachi088 I read your mind.

  • @lennyhome

    not at all.

  • thats fuckin badass ima try that shit sumtime

  • The only problem I can see with this is that I am not a delusional person who thinks he's a spy. So therefore there is no practical application for this in my everyday life.

    Interesting though.

  • Could you just buy the ink . fit it in the cartrige seal and be happy ?

  • Should have left a disclaimer about why security by obscurity is a bad idea. If you're able to get your agents the message to use Iodine to reveal the message then you'll have no problem getting them a one-time pad either.

  • why not just fill it with fluorescent dye ad use an ultraviolet light ?

  • @Pada007gangster every secret agent carries ultraviolet lights :P

  • so if i have some logic, to refill a ink catrige you just put the sponge in the correct ink color?

  • @TheWillsono yeah, thast what i've been doing for about 5 years. bought a set that came with a syringe so ican just inject the ink into the sponge instead of taking it out and soaking it. saves ALOOOOT of money

  • kipkay we all miss you man pleasse make more make magazine

  • @tomvm01

He has his own channel you know.

  • Maybe it IS an April Fools joke! Imagine we make this, and then realize it doesn't work! APRIL FOOLS BEOTCHESSS! ;D

    Hahaha, I gotta try this.

  • LIES.....it says april 1st but the video was posted march 31st

  • cool :D...april fools :(

  • Where. Is kipkay why doesend he do the

  • @tippitoverplease yeah, but it would be way harder to clean!

  • I thought it was a April Fools Joke!

  • cool, but your a spy. not a robot.

  • or you could just empty the cartage of the sponges and there's your invisible ink xD

  • whats the purpose of having crystalized lemon...not in the video jus in general

  • wouldnt it have been easier to place the sponge back in the cartridge and then add the lemon water with an eye dropper or syringe?

  • can we just see the project without all of the other crap?

  • and the best part is they also have a time machine. in the beginning there is text show with: April 1 2011. and it was uploaded on 31 March 2011

  • Can any one read the full secret code when the iron is used?

  • @NixuzE yes, it says:

    "THE SECRET CODE IS: F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B 08 41

    66 C5 63 56 88 C0"

    I hope I m not color blind :D

  • @dadvoc666 im colorblind.

  • This was sweet.

  • Thanks for stating NOT to use lemon juice. Was sure gonna try that. That saved me a lot of time.

    I'm gonna try this.

  • I wonder why he didn't use a dremel to open the ink cartridge.

  • Good god, just do same thing to an ink pen and you wont need to hack a printer.

  • to cut a long story short....?

  • nice printer hack, but I find the one (in Elector magazine) where they filled the cartridge with floor polish to make PCB etch resists more useful.

  • My goodness! You're shaking like a leaf. Had enough coffee today?

  • NO WAY! Nozzles in my printhead are choked since replacing cartridges with the CLEANING ones! I'm not going to disassemble any cartridge, and I don't recommend you doing it.

  • Teach us how to make your own normal ink!

  • your hands are really shaky... :s

  • @swansea2468 maybe hes being held at gunpoint... 8-)

  • @randomrat maybe that's why he's using invisible ink ;o

  • real or april foolz

  • ink is to expensive to waste like this

  • @SuperWario094 Do it with depleated cartridge.

  • i prefer shaken. Not stirred.

  • Uploaded on March 31, filmed on April 1st?

  • You can also use a Lightbult(incadesent) to revel the message, its just the heat doing it

  • april fools or real?

  • @JPMHUDProductions Nah, this should work so id say its legit

  • @JPMHUDProductions it works, i did it when i was about 9 xd

  • Next time, let's try it without all the horribly worded puns. Oh and kipkay wouldn't use hot glue, he'd just lazer inscribe the message to your face.

  • april fools?
