  • once upon a time perry was great. i miss that.however he has not released anything in years. what he did with david was

    weak

  • A musical note charm

    And a little pearl ring

    Love you honey.

  • sexy!

  • I just love this song. He never ceases to amaze me!!!

  • I love me some Steve Perry......

  • He is sexy sweet and yummy all rolled up in one.

  • AFter all these years...when I didn't even know his name in the 1980's, I can honestly say there is no other! I don't care if he's older than 60. I'm only a few years behind him and his voice makes me happy. That's all that matters!!!

  • The "my, my, my" refrain from this song ended up in Journey's When You're Alone (It Aint Easy). And as koalajones88 pointed out, the ascending "love" refrain was used in "Do You Recall."

For the record, I know damned good and well who John Waite is. He had a huge hit with "Missing You" in the 80's and then he went on to score a couple more hits with Bad English, (sharing the stage with Neil Schon and Jonathan Cain). And I'm not trying to be condescending here. I'm just pointing out the obvious.

  • Actually, had Steve not been available,

Journey might have stuck with Robert Fleischman,

who wrote much of the Infinity album, and could sing like a Mutha F--er.

  • This song is just another one of Steves Great works!

  • @FoxenBPerry Better with age!

  • I wonder If this was the demo Neal and Gregg listened to and said no way this guys a croner,,, hahaha and look where he took ya !!!

  • @luvsteveperry2 It wasn't this song, it was, If you need me call me , but you're right! :D

  • Love this! I just wish it was twice as long. I have to hit repeat too much. :-)

  • omg steve get into this song so sexy......my,my,my so hot

  • Right on, never heard of this one, I've heard of alot of demos and bootlegs but this one got past me, thanks for sharing it.

  • The "my my my" refrain was later used in "When You're Alone It Ain't Easy". Heck, this is a MUCH better tune.

  • Ditto what jade808 said. My, my, my indeed. Granny Gaga.

  • it's like Homeade love meets do you recall meets lovin' you is easy.

  • I like Augeri...one of my fave all time Journey songs is Higher Place. Perry is clearly my fave...but you gotta give credit where credit's due...That boy Arnel does have some pipes...

  • @NoSteveNoJourney Yes Steve Augeri was better than Arnel I think but no one is as good at singing Journey's old hits songs as Steve Perry was. He is amazing!!!!

  • You also hear this verse in I think Lovin you is easy on the album Evolution.

  • This track is by far the greatest "demo" I've ever heard.

  • I am actually a female not a bro lol.Yes I think Steve Augeri was better at singing the hits Steve Perry made famous in the first place.than Arnel is now.No one can ever replace Steve Perry as lead singer of Journey for me though. I believe Neal etc should have been more patient and understanding with Steve when he was having his hip problems. I think Neal in particular was acting very selfishly at that time.Steve was after all the main reason why Journey had all the hits that they had.

  • @eljay345 - sorry about the gender mistake! and i agree with everything in your post........neal is one of the best guitar players - but his "people" skills need work.

  • give em to me 19dave64 ,I want all you have of STEVE.Boy how this song makes me feel.naughty

  • my my my my my....woo

  • Thanks for all of your fantastic video posts 19dave64. This sounds great, Steves voice is amazing, i love it! Lynda

  • Pure Perry. LOVE IT.

  • Oh my my he is STEVE Freakin Perry...and sounds GREAT!

    I love this song....Very cool!

  • I really love this song and Steve Perry's music, no matter what musicians back him.

  • i love this song. he was only 28 when he did it! he was still a baby. but he will always be my baby.

  • just think.....if tragedy didn't strike alien project and they succeeded, neil schon, john cain, and ross valory would probably be working at burger world right now.

  • Hehe, that is soooo true!

  • thanks, MAND3LBROT. you know.......arnel should get down on his knees and thank god for perry every night. if not for him, who knows where arnel would be?

  • @beavis4play That is the funniest thing I've ever read on these comment boards. Truer words have never been spoken. Perry On.

  • @shootinrooster - thanks dude.........i just call 'em as i see 'em!

  • @beavis4play That is so true.Neal needed Steve's amazing vocals to get Journey played on the radio.I read an interview once where Steve said he was not Journey on his own.But for me there was no real Journey before Steve and there never will be again without him.'The Voice' was the main reason they had the success and all the hits they did.The reason why the band has not had another hit in all these years is because Steve is no longer lead singer.

  • @eljay345 - amen bro! and i HATE the way arnel does all the classics. it isn't that he's a bad singer; and, i know he's just trying to do versions specific to him - but trying to do songs a legend has made famous?...........it doesn't work.

they may still be called "journey"..........but it isn't journey.

on a side note: (while i agree nobody can replace perry, who was the best lead vocalist - EVER) i thought steve augeri did a good job. he has a good sound.

  • @beavis4play That is so true!

  • @Sharibluesrv - thanks, shari!

  • @beavis4play Journey had 2 charting LPs, b4 Perry ever got there. Schon was the heir apparent to Hendrix &Santana. Vallory was a great bass player that was a 2nd guitar player, in filling in the empty spaces for Schon&the band. Aynsley Dunbar wasnt as good as Steve Smith later on. But he was huge in their 70s sound. Rolie was already famous&needs no introduction. Cain was already writing/touring w/big bands like The Babys and didnt even need Journey. Perry is great. But keep some perspective.

  • @SouthOCmixdown hey, i don't deny schon is one of the best guitarists.........ever. i enjoy listening to his guitar work. and they did have some moderate success before perry. as far as cain and the babies? where is john waite, now? and ask 1000 people who was the lead singer for the babies and very few could tell you.......nuff said there. but my point that these guys would have NEVER sniffed the success they've had if it weren't for perry? i think it's completely valid. thanks for the reply

  • @beavis4play Ur original comment was ~ Schon, Cain, Vallory, et all, wud be working at Burger World, were it not 4Perry. Which, even if only meant in flippant hyperbole, is not valid. If anything, Perry was lucky 2find them. They laid out the structure 4the songs that Perry would vocalize on that gave him stardom. In fact, u cud even make a strong case that if it werent for Cain writing the piano parts on 'Escape', &all the pop revival that has come from it, Perry might be toiling in obscurity.

  • @SouthOCmixdown - i couldn't disagree more. i'm not sure i see where you're going with the "structure" comment -BUT, when people listened to journey - it WAS because of perry. i'm not a psycho fan or anything, but that's just the way it is. look at record sales; how many times their songs were on the radio before and after perry.........was journey selling out arenas before perry??? no. and yes, i LOVE to hear NS guitar solos - he's one of the best ever - but i think my comment is accurate.

  • @beavis4play I guess theres no point in 2 Journey afficionados arguing over a trivial &unalterable point. I feel the band had as much or more 2do w/the success of Journey, w/Perry being slightly secondary. U postulate the opposite. I think it was the intended disrespect2 Schon, Valory, Cain, et al, that I felt compelled 2answer2. I see now u were being semi-facetious w/it so, no harm no foul. I wudnt have even visited a page like this, if I wasnt a Perry fan. Good talking w/u &happy listening.

  • @SouthOCmixdown - hey, i love the band. and idid try and put a humorous spin on what i was thinking - but you HAVE to know i'm right when i say that journeys mainstream success was due to what the public was hearing coming from perrys mouth. i'm a BIG fan of steve smith as well. i think schon is one of the best guitarists ever.....and cains songwriting (along with perry!) is exceptional. but (like was said in "behind the music") "this band soared to the top on the vocals of steve perry".

  • @beavis4play In any band, the singer will be the most recognizable member. Even listening to this rudimentary Perry recording, u can hear his strong, personalizing stamp on what would be Journey's most successful era of their musical saga. Having said THAT~ I think its ALSO a fair AND demonstrable statement, 2say that Journey existed and was productive AND popular without Perry, for significant periods both BEFORE and AFTER. Their smashing recent shows/tours, to me, verify this fact. Just sayin'

  • @SouthOCmixdown - i guess we'll just have to disagree. thanks for the replies.

  • @beavis4play seriously...what a stupid comment. please make a fist, turn it around and punch yourself. thanks

  • @dvinmf - i'ts only stupid because you're too big of an idiot to understand it.

  • I like that he incorporated this early Alien Project song into JRNY's ;When you're alone (It ain't easy)'...very cool. I do love the orginial song a lot too and I'm glad Steve added it as a bonus track on Street Talks remasterd CD.

  • My, my, my, oh my, Steve! After all these years, the GREATEST VOCALIST EVER! Nuff sed! = )

  • the high part in this song sounds extremely similar to journeys do you recall high part

  • i luv this song!

  • One of the People in Alien Project Died in a car crash And it cut steve up since he was close to him so thats why he left i think he said it in a ST interview And i think they were going to sign a contract and the a couple days later the guy from the band dies :(

...the late Richard Michaels, bassist/co-writer, Alien Project

  • SIIIZZLE!! My my my.....!!

  • MALLI5212,

    SSSSSizzzzzzzle is right!.

"When you're alone it AIN'T easy", for sure!

Hey everybody, doesn't listening to this song make ya feel kinda nasty?! Listen to the opening verse:

"I got somethin' for you, yeah!

You got somethin' for me, oh-ohh!

    Let's put 'em together,

    Ohh-oh, yeah, Ohh-ooh-ohh-oh-ohh!

    My, my, my indeed!

  • Naughty boy, Stevie!

My, oh my! Doesn't this song just make ya wanna git wit' somebody? Wooooh!!

  • HOT!

  • M, m, m, my, my this is gr, gr, great! It's impossible to believe that he's been entertaining with this fabulous voice for over 30 years!!!

  • To Perry fans everywhere: sign the Steve Perry Sing Again petition for those of us who want to hear his solo work again!! Go to petitiononlinecom and add your name (enter this in the address line to get to the specific petition) /srperry1/petition.html. Let Steve know how much hes still loved!!!

  • This song was the inspiration for "When You're Alone (It Ain't Easy). Note the 'My, my, my, my, my, my, my yeah' part.

  • Bill YES, I totally agree....Steve had a definitive influence on the JOURNEY sound...

I had noticed that when listening to "When You're Alone (It Ain't Easy). too.. recently after hearng this and ing HMM I know I heard this "my my my" B4 good catch...

  • Those high notes that he hits are amazing.

    Thinking dirty thoughts.....

  • Steve's voice is amazing!!!

  • Steve's voice WAS amazing. This clip shows why he was among the best vocalists ever. Unfortunately, that voice is gone. If he could sing, he would. It's over. But yeah...listen to the late 70s to about '82 and man... what a golden set of vocal chords!

  • TEXASROKKER,

YOU'VE said it before, so I'LL respond again. Your comment - "if he could sing, he would...it's over" - is utter nonsense. Just because ANY person HAS the ability to do a feat does NOT mean they WILL do it! If they do NOT do that task, it does NOT mean they no longer have that ability.

People do have FREE will to CHOOSE!

On an unifying note, I AGREE that Steve's voice WAS amazing and that it's NOT the same as it was. It's amazing in a different way. I'd still pay to hear it!

  • TEXASROKKER,

You're full of cutesy, clever remarks, but as usual, you fail to respond to the to the subject at hand: your flawed logic that "if he COULD sing, he WOULD sing", which is in no way based in fact. I spoke of FREE WILL, the right to CHOOSE. So just as Steve may CHOOSE to NOT sing, YOU can CHOOSE to NOT address any reasoning you might have to explain your silly premise. Dearie.

  • And you're full of nonsensical bullshit. So what? What I say is based in fact. And if you had the advanced, technical equipment available to professionals, you too could dissect the TBF stuff and see just how...how shall I put this..."cut and pasted" Perry's vocals are. I knew he was done way back then. Face it...no live performances since his failed solo tour. The Rockline and other live stuff in his attempts to sing are further proof of the FACT he can no longer sing. Get over it!

  • Whenever will I learn my lesson? You said it, so it MUST be FACT, right? Whatever was I thinking? Maybe that you are just full of...

supposition and presumption based on your need to be right, to be heard.

  • Here's the difference, I'm smart...you are not. I know how studio audio recordings are done...you don't. I have access to equipment you can only dream of. I can face reality when someone I admire falls from grace...you can't. I don't cling to hopeless bullshit knowing I'm wishing against what is clear and plain reality...you do. Feel free to dream. Just realize it's dreaming! If we get new Perry crap, it'll be pro tooled to death and there will be no tour beacuse what you will hear will be fake!

  • TEXASROKKER,

Let's talk FACTS vs your false declarations:

-If YOU are so smart, why is much of what you say you ignorant and offensive?

-You know NOTHING about my musical skills OR experience, so why make such idiotic assertions?

-Having been recorded PROFESSIONALLY numerous times, I DO know how studio engineering.

-A best friends owns a professional studio, another owns a record company, so I DO have access.

You prove my point with your "FACTS" about his possible future music. Touche'.

  • There will be no new Perry stuff. It's nice to tease you lunatics about it though. See how excited you got? Hahaha. That's great! That's freaking classic. Like a 3rd grade girl being told there might be a new Bratz doll coming out! Damn, that was funny! Dude, the closest you've been to a studio is seeing pictures! Your downright ignorant comments are proof of this. I'll forget more about studios than you'll ever learn! But hey, keep it coming. I can always use a good laugh!

  • TEXASROKKER,

Say what you will about Steve. It still isn't proof, and far from fact. Your examples MIGHT - at best - be evidence.

Say what you will about my musical experience. But you are - in a word - wrong.

I agree that NO ONE'S voice can be what it was in its prime of 25 years ago. That doesn't mean it still isn't better now than you or I ever were.

Until you can tell us that you have personally heard Steve sing live recently, you have no FACT. Even then, maybe only opinion.

  • TEXASROKKER,

"There you go again". Speaking non-truths, putting words in my mouth.

In NO WAY did I insist on my "brilliance", rather only that I was a skilled, experienced performer that had some connections. My point was that YOU had NO CLUE as to my qualifications as a music commentator, but you make personal attacks against me and others for OUR opinions. Even though I made no such attack on you. Yet you expect us to sit back and suffer your proclamations without response? Hmmm....

  • TEXASROKKER,

Perry at The Series? Never mind yelling and cheering for hours on end! At several games! Forget he was surrounded by a bunch of singing-impaired jocks, so he lowered his voice to sing like "one of the guys". Too many beers, too much yelling and partying, too little sleep, jet lag. Nah, those things don't affect anyone.

C'mon! Steve was doing a beer-cheer rendition with the guys, not performing!

As for Farnham, his vocal range hasn't changed much...it was always very limited.

  • TEXASROKKER,

If the infamous case regarding Steve's reluctance to release new music due to an inability to sing - a.k.a. TexasRokker vs. Perry - ever went to litigation, the "proof" you offer via verbal abuse, intimidation and cyclical reasoning would NOT fool a jury. But, it would never even make it to trial: the Judge would throw it out of court due to lack of evidence. Either way, I would be there in HIS defense.

As for making excuses, I make none for you, only allowances. Case closed.

  • JRNYman

there is no point trying to reason or have a civil debate with TXroker-- like they say "u can't argue with crazy or the ignorant" He is completely incapable of an intelligent argument. he needs to close his mouth and open his mind and turn off the computer and find a more constructive hobby than bashing Perry...Perhaps TXrkr is just a garage band musician who never made it and is just jealous since he can't sing more than 2 octaves and he is NEVER in key!

  • TR the votes are in--you are the LOON & THE TROLL--hanging out on videos WAITING for someone to post something about you..just so you can have some insipid response trying to prove your worth as a musician or that U made it? --which sounds like U didn't. LOL I was so correct!

well if this is YOUR 15 minutes of FAME--ENJOY--u will only be remembered as utbe cyber troll named txsdumbjerk!

DON't assume what I know about the industry..I have probably met more famous ppl than U!

  • Tksrokker WHY do you assume I'm fat-I'm a dancer (by hobby)and I have an engineering degree! AT least I spend my spare time watching videos that I enjoy! AND no one here is buying your garbage or your CD's.. if U R so great-show your picture and quit trolling. considering it is a day b4 a major holiday and U WANT to start an argument ONUTBE--wow your family/social life & career must be as barren as your utbe channel! YOU have NOTHING better to do LOL you are truly a LOSER!!

  • Pot, meet kettle. You just put yourself down without even realizing it. You really are stupid. A dancer? They let fat chicks pole dance now? Congratulations.

  • TEXASROKKER,

Someone makes a remark and if you don't agree, you make personal insults. And then it escalates.

I can't comment on your education or musical success - I know nothing about you other than what you present in your remarks. I see that same restriction doesn't apply to your tirades.

Whatever level of success you may possess in formal education, you lack in maturity, tolerance, common sense and reasoning skills.

And you would be damn lucky to have someone as hot as jumpygirl3.

  • as for famous ppl

I'm sure there are plenty of famous ppl who wouldn't even admit to knowing you and many who wouldn't even remember you!!!

Then the regular guy-who forget you ever existed...kinda like the ppl who have the videos you troll!!!!

I would rather be a PERRY/JOURNEY loon then just someone like you who isn't even wanted around!

    oh yeah --

    Liek mein I'm arse!

    AT least I am educated!

  • If you paid for your education, you should ask for a refund.

I have a post-graduate degree from the University of Texas. You may want to look up what that means, because it's very likely you don't know.

  • oh yeah and GEORGE BUSH came from TX and LOOK AT what a great job he has done for our country!!!!

    Did you major in trolling?

you must not only be deaf but blind????

well- you must be an expert in fat ladies pole dancing since that is how your mother paid for your education! and we have all discovered how well that worked out for you!

You can't even figure out how to upload a picture. UGH--don't bother we have enough rednecks on utbe already!

  • Gawd, you're so stupid you missed the point entirely! The point, again, is that you're excellent at offering excuses for anything. Idiot!

  • TEXASROKKER,

Your displayed jealousy for my logic shows YOU miss the point: I'd grown weary of your inane, baseless declarations of "fact", so I was facetiously mocking you. You COULDN'T process that, as you've demonstrated no higher-level powers of reasoning. Instead, you opt for cursing and discriminatory insults: you have all the subtlety of a sonic boom.

It's a shame that someone so highly-educated (as you claim to be) never learned any social skills, honesty or respect for others. Pity.

  • Great vocals as usual from the main man!

  • Great

  • Awesome song.

  • OH MY! Stevie you're incredible!

  • he is a handsome man

  • I have to agree, he still is too.

  • Really? how many of these on it? I have the release with if you need me call me..I wanted the one w/the kenny loggins song...argh.

  • Haha

  • I like this song so much I bought the CD!! I love it, too bad Alien Project never worked out.

  • no its not . .then we wouldnt of had the Steve Perry Journey

  • oh wow ty ty ty!!!

  • Phenomenal voice, love this song....He could take all of his unreleased music and put it on an album and score bigtime. I would like to hear his version of that song I Can See It In Your Eyes he gave to Guff....

  • It is on Trial by Fire as a bonus track when you buy the album at least on itunes anyway. That is how I got it. It is awesome!

  • I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE with a capital L! The mm mm mm my my PART! omg its so awesome!!!!

  • This is "When you're alone it ain't easy", it is the original ofcourse... remember that demos are more like projects than the finished package... I love this! Shows you the building blocks of the early songs Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Gregg Rolie, and the rest worked on... awesome, now when there was no more source material from the Alien Project demo, fresh ideas had to emerge and that's when real success for Journey came...

  • Great song reminds me of 'When you're alone it aint easy' from the Evolution album...

  • you are right on. should have been on evolution. great song

  • Man can't you picture this song on the Infinity album? Great song!!

  • I forgot about alien project...wow.

  • This is great to hear the songs that most people have never heard. LOVE IT!

  • stellar s/perry cut...

    journey/perry rules:)

    -cheers

  • THIS IS SOOOOOOOOO SEXY THIS SONG

  • Thanks for Sharing!

  • Thanks for this song & video !!! Another one that needs attention!! Peace/Love--Debbie
