I started playing Minecraft in 1.6 and I liked 1.6 and 1.7 but 1.8 really brushed my patience and biomes in 1.0.0 got really old really fast (especially with the discoloration). I remember I made a beautiful area near where I spawned, on a gravel beach, which I couldn't seem to find at all since my file got corrupted in the 1.8 update. I would totally play on someone's server if it was on 1.6.
