@KauaiBallerof2012 i think it goes up to the E above the staff.. and high G if you play the new cadenza. some of its harder than vaughan williams, some easier
@KauaiBallerof2012 It goes up to the Eb above the staff. And there is a part in this movement that it hits the pedal D (an octave below the D right under the staff)
In regards to buying a tuba before college is all around a bad idea. First you need to develop a good and articulation and simply know what to look for in a tuba (is there any resistance when blowing air? or is it free flowing). And most importantly bring another trained tubist with you to decide that you sound best on that horn.

I love this piece in particular but you vibrato made the piece a bit better. I'm going to try this piece for a solo do you have any suggestions? Otherwise great playing nice tone and the runs were consistent.
This was an extraordinary concerto. He played it as if he had written it himself. I'm not sure about how the other kinds of tubas work or the exact differences but I'd like to know. If someone could fill me in that would be nice. I play a bbflat tuba. I am only 16 and my director is going all over the place about me. 1st 1st at all region. But if someone could get back to my on the types of tubas it would be helpful.
@ilygc34 first try out for all state if you do have one which you should have it in your state, if your playing on going to college for music you NEED to get a cc tuba. cc is just a step up above bbflat but you will have to learn all new fingerings the sooner you get it the better

@hugoishuge no its is how they are made. some are made with four others with three depends who makes them :) but yes three valve tubas are a lot easier to train a tuba on i must say ;) andyes i am a tuba player :)
@hoos891405 - probably because she's not a tuba player. I play principal oboe in our orchestra, but tuba was my first instrument. I'd not only be quite interested, but would be wishing I was up there playing it! Very nice performance, tubachef!! (My tuba only has four valves, but it's still a wonderful instrument.)
Wonderful performance. Gentle soft playing. Exact pitch. great musicality of the player. Shoul be put on a disc for the enjoyment of the general public.
I love this piece , along with Concerto for bass tuba by gregson. I'm attempting both of these peices and challenging me to have them done before my frshman year is over! Any1 think i can do it? :)
im trying to play this piece now but am not getting the good tone or range i can get low enough I just cant sustain the higher notes any advice you could give me?
