  • This is weird! her book must be bitter lies?? anyone know what this is about?

  • no way i'm romanian and my last name is Marinescu does that mean that were related somehow?

  • @marinescu0511 You are indeed partly Romanian. Marinescu is a Romanian name 100%. It means son/daughter of Marin. That means that one of your ancestors was called Marin.

  • ce i s-a intamplat mihaelei, sduicu?

  • ce emisiune frumoasa!

  • Mihaela (Mesteritza) died on 23th April 2010...So sad...Rest in peace, Mesteritza!

  • i'm so confused. i got a copy of her book (which took some effort as it's not in mass production here in the U.S.) and she COMPLETELY tore them apart. like, completely, totally, 100% against them.

and now this apparently says something different.

i give up. the romanians are amazing, but it's drama drama drama! :-P

  • Well i guess this is a bit superficial like when the rival coaches sake hands or when the rival gymnasts give each other hugs.

  • @sprinklefriend

She says they got over the conflict and that she was indirectly angry at them. She doesn't say what that means, but I guess they and the others who coordinate the team took some decitions against her will, but for her own good.

  • can anyone translate

  • This is from Alexandra's book (youtube might reverse the order of the posts, so you may have to read upwards.)

Corina (Ungureanu) was still repeating the climbing on the beam. She was failing a lot and thats why the coaches kept asking her to repeat it . . . Corina was circling in the air after which she had to open her legs and fall on the beam, which was coming thus right between her legs . . . at landing she was hurting herself terribly in the genital area . . .

  • Belu . . . was shouting anyway and cursing Corina as much as he could. He simply swooped upon her and he started beating her. He was hitting her without even care, as if she was an animal. Corina started to get away from the avalanche of beatings and then Belu sent her to repeat that exercise again. When she was failing, Belu was rushing upon her with a lot of slapping and curses . . .

  • Ungureanu started crying hard and she . . . kept failing and every time she was trying to repeat she was getting hurt even more in that area . . . At one of the repetitions, Corina got so hurt that she started bleeding gravely . . . Corina, between two slappings, told Belu that she was bleeding. But his reaction was still icy: Whats wrong? Youre bleeding? You deserve it! Move back on the beam and do it again!.

I'm not sure what to make of this, but this is what Alex said in her book.

  • Thanks for typing all that out! I would be very happy to read it, and I have looked for it on Amazon, but have had no luck in finding it. Where did you find it? I used to get International Gymnast, and I imagine they would sell something like this, but I have been out of the sport for several years, and I am no longer a subscriber.

  • Here's the best thing to do: go to your local library (are you in America?) and tell them to do an "inter-library loan." They will find the book in any library in the country. That's what I did, and it turned out the only copy findable in the U.S. was in a college library in N.Y. So if you get that copy, that means we have read the same copy.

I copied down a lot of it, notes and stuff, just for my own reference. You will like the book, I promise.

  • i got my copy online. i'm not sure where it came from, but all i had to do was some internet searches and it couldn't have been from another country because i'm from D.C. (in America, obviously) and it was here within a few days.

the only problem is that you can tell it was written in another country. the english is awful, almost like a literal translation rather than one that makes sense. but it's certainly better than nothing, and a very easy read.

  • i am guessing this corina denied or verified this storie didn't she?

  • In the book Alex talked about Corina being abused. I seem to remember that Corina was very upset after the book was published that Alex told about her (Corina's) abuse. But I'm pretty sure it's true.

  • If what she wrote in the book (which I have not read, but have read reviews of) has "nothing to do with her coaches", then was she lying when she talked about the abuses? Even if her anger about her injuries was the reason she wrote the book, it doesn't change the fact that she made some serious allegations about the training system. And what of the other gymnasts who complained? Seems odd that all of a sudden everyone is getting along and putting on happy faces.

  • I read the book. It was VERY damning to Belu and Bitang. According to Alex, the abuses were severe and constant. Beating, hiting with objects, starving, mental abuse, you name it. When I saw this video, I thought, What the hell??? Why is she there? But maybe they had private talks and somehow she got over all the bad stuff. I highly recommend the book. It's called "The Secrets of a Gymnast" in the English version. "Alexandra's Secrets" in Romania.

  • Shes pretty

  • alguém pode traduzir romeno?

  • Marinescu very nice gymnast, UGLY DRESS!! OMG

  • Corina ungureanu looks so great!!! I LOVE HER!!

  • Can anyone tell me who the other gymnasts in this video? I recognize Simona Amanar sitting in the front row in the audience. The other girls look so familiar but I just can't put a name to their faces. Who is the girl sitting next to Alexandra?? She looks very familiar.

  • andreea raducan (middle) and maria olaru are sitting in the first row with simona amanar, also loredana boboc is sitting right next to or above bitang, the girl beside alexandra marinescu i think is corina ungureanu

  • Thanks so much. I knew the girls next to Amanar looked familiar and I couldn't put names to their faces.

    Thanks.

  • at the 8 sec mark, where you can see everyone on the couch, it's from left to right - looks like Oana Ban, Andreea Cacovean, Silvia Stroescu, the Octavian Belu, Corina and then Alexandra

  • AM: Yes, its true. People who dont know gymnastics that well didnt understant that my problems werent with [belu and bitang]. I was upset for other reasons. My health which at this moment there is no solution [in fixing it], I always hoped there would be something that could be done, even though i already announced my retirement I still had little hopes until the last moment. But in the end when my [gymnastic dream] was destroyed, it was this huge upset for me ...

  • If what you wrote here is a translation of what Alexandra said, her book says a totally different thing. Have you read it? I just got a hold of it, and it's unbelievably damning to Belu and Bitang.

  • no, i havent read it, but i heard its pretty nasty .. either way .. this is a few years after the book and by this time she probably was over whatever has happened to her with belu and bitang

  • @WorldClassGym

A.M: I want to let you know that I believe you went through

a lot in gymnastics. You know how the federation of

Romania treats gymnasts, they don't care about them.

Demand them to help you. You have the right!

Another thing, I don't understand why the gymnasts that you mentioned didn't quit immediately gymnastics, they kept training and competing. Their coach(Belu)

was a monster. Don't associate with him nor Bitang, it's better to keep your distance and ignore him.

  • mai mult k sigur k tuh ejti romanka;)(mesteritza)

  • mda ai ghicit :D

  • I wonder why she never returned to compete anymore?

  • she had a back problem because of it could paralyze.

  • @akawhippy well she had a back injury for her premature retirement...watch this link about her and other gymnasts:)

  • Thanks for posting this. Alexandra was a great gymnast. My favorite of the Romanians in her day. She had good bars work, could dance and had the artistic grace, lines and form and good choreo so lacking in her teammates. She was denied the chance twice to compete in a major AA at the Olympics at Worlds 1997-but she left her mark and is not forgotten.
