i still cant get over the fact that eggnog is raw eggs. ew. but i love drinking the noggy lol. could u possibly get sick from the raw eggs in homemade eggnog recipes?
Hmm... using sweetened condensed milk and whipped cream is a great idea. I'm sure it tastes really fluffy! :) I'mma go ahead and make it this weekend.
@Supersonic27100 It has an optional ingredient of rum. If you add it, then it's an alcoholic drink--but you may easily leave it out and have a nonalcoholic version.
Hi Betty! I just watched this & it looks wonderful! I don't see anything wrong with it at all. Infact, it looks really, really good with that sweetened condensed milk (yummy)! I just watched your other eggnog with eggbeaters & I like this one better =) Using eggs are fine don't worry. This is an aged old recipe & they didn't use eggbeaters way back in the old days.Could you imagine Oliva Walton in 1930's adding eggbeaters to hers?lol She used regular eggs. I LOVE this recipe! Thanks! Hugs!
@MrJoseppie123 Eggnog is a sweetened dairy-based beverage traditionally made with milk and/or cream, sugar, beaten eggs (which gives it a frothy texture), and liquor. Brandy, rum, or whisky is generally added; and the finished serving would be garnished with a sprinkling of ground cinnamon or nutmeg.
betty.. do you have a recipe that requires you to heat the milk and egg ?it's much more safer. because even if the egg is safe and intact, the salmonella can pierce through the shell of the egg.
Thank you Betty... I'm going to be doing homemade things this year for the holiday and eggnog is on the list... is there any way you can post the entire recipe here for everyone to see?
@madpop17 Raw eggs are traditionally used in eggnog. If you prefer not to use raw eggs (which are perfectly safe if completely intact), use can use pasteurized egg substitute.
@sweetasblondehoney Yes she does look at her more recent vids and you will see at the end in the credits where you can purchase her book. It's called "A year's Cooking in Betty'sKitchen"
@sweetasblondehoney Yes, as noted eby BlackSkullz09, you can purchase my "A Year in bettyskitchen" cookbook from lulu.com. Just search the keyword; bettyskitchen. Thanks for your interest!
Actually the ironic thing is i am not that familar with it atall! my friend who is from the U.S.A told me about it. So i read some information on it, and about its orgins! The one thing he didnt know is it was made from uncooked eggs! I have never tried it before, so i might just be brave and try it!
Thanks Bety, you do not know how much money this will save me, my family drinks eggnog like it's water this can get expensive plus the stores run out quick during this time of the year. Now we can all make some together.
This is a great recipe if you want a lot! What I demonstrated was just half of the recipe, because there is just my husband and me to drink it--but I wrote out the full recipe for you! Thanks for your lovely comment!
Wonderful recipe Betty! Homemade eggnog is so much better than the prepared kind in the grocery! Thank you for sharing such a wonderful recipe! Love, love, love your hair! Happy Holidays to you and your family! Hugs..
For the people worried about the raw eggs: you can use pasteurized eggs if you are concerned about the freshness/safety of eggs in your area.If you are in the US, Egg Beaters brand is pasteurized, and I am sure there are other brands as well.
Thanks for your compliment! Also, thank you *so* much for this clarification! I don't want anyone to be afraid of trying the recipe--but you have given everyone some options! Thanks!!!
After I finished the video, my husband drank the eggnog with the alcohol. He said it was pretty stiff! Maybe I overdid it a bit for such a small glass! But, I think you will enjoy it, and I hope you make it! Thanks for your sweet comment!
Let me just say this..I have made eggnog many times and not one person has gotten ill..looped, perhaps but never ill. lol. Great recipe Betty. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

hi I am a friend of Canadiancatgreen and have a question or more I want to confirm that this is correct
I want to make this the best way so can I leave the alcohol which would mean it is way way better?

Dear Betty,
Do you use the whole egg or do you split it in 2 (egg yolk / protein)
Greetings from the Netherlands!!

If nutmeg is not around, I like to use ground cinnamon as an alternative (as well an addition to nutmeg).
NoveltyFishHead 1 month ago
Hey, I have a few question for you
Question 1) What happens if you mix everything by hand and is that okay?
Question 2) Is the nutmeg a choice or do you have to?
Question 3) What do you mean by chilled?
I hope you can answer some of my questions
christina2581 1 month ago
@christina2581 Mixing by hand is okay. Nutmeg is optional. Chilled = refrigerated.
