  • 7:28-51. Not surprised. Raistlin should of cast stoneskin before jumping.

  • What a shame for ad&d

  • I actually own this game.I tried it once and never played it again.

  • the draconian keeps backin' up because his daddy taught him good xD

  • heros of the lance sucks, and ff8 was good up until i foudn out where all the heors came from... the exact same place...

  • Couple things

Don't confuse bad hit box with missing your "to hit roll".

You do not need Goldmoon to beat the game, just her staff and one of 5 characters that can carry her staff

Raistlin is not the most powerful mage at this point. However, he is a very strong character if you know how to use him. It's like DnD, glass cannon mage.

Like you said, without the manual the game sucks. After reading it the combat is easy.

    Bad game, awesome music though.

(Why is Goldmoon first? Tanis was leader.)

  • this was a bad game, but then again most of the games of the time were like that,

  • At 7:30 til the end you just hear the utter frustration. It's the frustration where you want to plunge your fist through the monitor

  • i have to agree with you, really really bad game, but i love the books.

PS:Raistlin isn't the most powerful wizard yet when they go to get the discs, its after they defeat Takhisis and after he changes to the black robes.

  • this game blows

  • Yeah... it doesn't look like you really tried to play or understand the game. This is coming from somebody who's never even heard of the game before now.

  • awesome video spoony I laughed my ass off :) ..the music is very hypnotic!

  • I still have the cover of the box for this game, I'm glad I lost the actual game. xD lol

  • Wow, this seems to be so much worse than the Master System version I had as a kid. Although that too was way to confusing for me.

  • 7:48 boots him in the shins and he's dead

    lol

  • what is the worst game game you ever played?

  • Spoony for president.

Does anyone know the name of the intro song? It's driving me nuts lol

  • @goldenOO I believe it is he opening theme of Great Teacher Onizuka

  • @AnimeSpellweaver

No, I would've noticed that (and I've checked just to be sure) since I'm a big fan of that anime.

    Ty anyway.

  • 8:00 to 8:07 makes me ROFL every time

  • i live in my own this game....is terrible, when i was 11 xD

  • Wow, Spoony's voice is WAAAAAAAAY different the from his nowadays voice. Kinda like J. Hetfield on "Killem All" and "The Death Magnetic" albums.

  • Owned by gully dwarves

  • you look like matt cullen

  • LLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • I loved these books, but frankly I'm not surprised with rastilin going down in one hit

  • Why don't you just use Raistlin to cast a friendship charm on the gully dwarves?

  • 30 people got killed by naked dwarves.

  • Buggery? Really?

  • This guys is SUPER CERIAL about this shit..

  • Not defending but..... who knows what this game has in store after that hole?

  • @Cyan60 Plot twists abound man

  • I want to see his reaction to Yuna's song.

  • This is the best game ever made!

  • At least the music is good, the graphics are surely standard fare on the NES.

  • The "Shit game" makes my day

  • I just bought the MS-DOS version...

  • This game would be better with Hasslehoff instead of Tasslehoff.

  • i had this game couldnt pass 1st 5 mins in the game. cool music shitty game

  • How hard would it have been for the developers to, I don't know, make it control like Zelda 2 or Wizards and Warriors?

  • Wow. This game is worse than Action 52--because Action 52 was actually playable

    to some extent.

  • THE WIZARD IS DEAD

  • @boitahaki EVERYONE IN THE PARTY IS DEAD

  • I used to play the DOS version of this game as a kid, and I remember being FURIOUS at it...a lot. I think I could sue its creators for mental issues stemming from its use. Like, seriously, I've been trying to block the recollection of this torturous game from my memory for 15 years. And now it's back. THANKS.

  • This game is so bad that poor Noah can't fucking keep up with its poorness! One sentence gets raped by another screwed up, broken situation... it's fucking hilarious! xD

I remember the first time I watched this. I almost threw up, I laughed so hard. I keeeep coming back for more. You're amazing, SpoonyOne!

  • Diz guy, is un-FUCKING BELIEVABLE!

  • Cure light wounds didn't work because you didn't have light wounds, you had critical wounds. :)

  • It was a horrible game, but he could at least try to play the game rather than look like he wears a crash helmet during the demonstration.

  • you can stab downward!!!????? ...... fuck this game :( i dont know how long ive been trying to figure this game out (im 25) i never knew you could stab downward..... fuck this game harder :(

  • I liked the graphics and music, but the awful game play, stiff controls, and over suckness made me hate this game.

  • You're supposed to use flint in the front and raistlin for magic as back up

  • 3 50 omg lol

  • I testify that everything said on this video is true. Heroes of the Lance was really bad.

  • I can confirm this is the worst video game of all time.

  • @arbitor365 I think hes being constructive actually

not a raging fanboy IMO like Mario fans

  • @arbitor365 The best part is that 90% of the contrarian morons don't even believe what they're saying, they're just doing it to be dicks.

Anyone who actually does think this is a decent game needs to die in a fire, because the world doesn't need people that brainless.

  • @arbitor365 wow some idiot is actually defending this game? Probably a troll. Just point em to the nearest pot of gald! :p

  • @arbitor365 Wait--people actually defend THIS game? I didn't realize THAT many people were colorblind out there.

No offense, but goddamn, even THAT'S no excuse.

  • @arbitor365 What the shit? PEOPLE ACTUALLY DEFEND THIS PIECE OF SHIT GAME!? I've played this game and it's fucking horrible.

  • @arbitor365 The ironic thing is, Spoony now has his own legion of fanboys.

  • @arbitor365 How dare people like something me and my master don't like.

  • "hey look he floa..."

  • LMAO

  • Heroes of the Lance came out one month after the first Gold Box game. The Nes version was ported a couple years later. i think when SSI first got the AD&D license they werent sure whether rpg, strategy or action games would be better received. Although the game is not great the nes port is total utter shit.

  • Sometimes when I'm bored I come back to this review again and again just for laughs, a real piece of comedy gold. Thank you!

  • @scottishterrierdude that makes two of us

  • for some reason the music repeating makes me laugh. 7:09 dunno why.

  • "And I got a Brick dropped on me!!!

    FUCK YOU!!!!

    AAAARRGH!!!!"

    Best video moment. 10/10 XDDD

  • look raist, bunny poo

  • nice

i am playing in this moment

    good memories

    good video

  • this music is from the sound track from hell.

  • I bought this game for my husband on Amazon, since he's in AD&D games. He played it for about 3 minutes & chucked the cartridge across the room . I sold it 3 days later for the same price I bought it for.

  • You're lucky he didn't file for divorce.

  • Incidentally, I rented this game once back when I was a kid.

    It's absolutely true.

    Worst, most unplayable game ever.

  • Orcs and BUGGERY!

    Ahhh, brilliant!

  • R ai stlin? I thought it was R ay stlin?

  • LMAO DUDE

  • These dracos redefine pansy-assing. I have been inspired, I have seen the light, I'm going to design a kickass Dragonlance game that will help the draconian race save face if nothing else.

  • fking green doing the moonwalk!

omg micheal jackson rip offs? O.o

  • had this bastard game on my sega

  • did LGN have a hand in this game? Because this seems like something of their "quality".

  • Well, LJN is more of a licensed games company than... Well, they could have made this, but they make mostly movie games. And X-Men. Which I have D:

  • correction..they SLAUGHTER movie games :D

  • bloodriotiori: This game was actually made by a company called Strategic Simulations, Inc. They made some good games, particularly the Five Star General series on the PC.

  • guess this wasn't their shining moment then xD

  • Yea Dragonlance were the first books I read besides LOTR when I was a kid. I loved them so much, of course. But this game when I got it, spending my hard-earned allowance money... on THIS piece of GARBAGE I was so sad.

  • lol i hear ya i remember playing this when i was 7 or 8 lol iam 26 now dayumn

  • This game is funny, noone knows how to play it but if you check out another video it shows you how to finish it. haha

  • i also have this "game" books=awesomeness, game =broken NES and/or T.V. you made it further than i ever did lol

  • i remember this game.

it was terrible then, and it's terrible now.

  • That old music was pretty cool

  • I had this game on my Sega Mastersystem and I actually liked it xD !!

  • Me too, it was sooo cool!!

  • Dungeons & Dragons is a good game, (trust me, i've play it sometimes on saturdays) but holy shit, this game looks like crap!

  • Is that a Bookmans price sticker I see on that folder?

  • I was thinking the same exact thing. God, I love Bookman's.

  • Shit.. You' re so right. 4th's edition's only purpose is to kill, kill ,kill, battle, maim, loot, buy. Nothing else.. The game can't have the depth it had in 3.5. If they wanted to rebalance the game they could just post instructions for DMs on how to home-brew and lower the power of wizards etc.

  • Yeah, I looked at my friends 4th ed. books and was wondering wtf they were thinking. Really they shouldnt call it 4th ed. it is basically a rulebook written for their crappy miniatures.

  • I would give this game a rating...

    BUT THERE'S NO - SIGNS!

  • Agreed. 3.5 for life.

  • k as if ur like saying anything specific about this game lol

  • LOL again great review dude haha

  • Actually, I think I got the hang of this game after fussing with it for a while. But I stopped playing because it's one of the most BORING games I've ever played.

  • 600th rating, 5 stars ^__^

  • Yeah, the guy's great! The game must be pure crap. Destroys the name of D&D..

  • Woo! 3.5!

  • At 2:24, I was thinking, "Rocks fall and you die.".

  • I have this game on NES, bought it years ago. Played it once and put it away and new played it again.

This one of the worst games on the NES and, it even got a sequel on NES. Horrible hit detection, horrible gameplay, etc.

I wish that I never bought it. I bought it used because I like the Dungeons and Dragons game such as Pool of Radiance, Eye Of The Beholder, etc.

  • he seems a lot more pissed off in this then hes newer reviews

  • Awesome! <3 u spoony

  • lol, that was a really funny rant

  • I had this game, waste of $50 at the time, but I got all the way the small dragons things and usually got killed off not longer after that. I never figured out how you were supposed to finish the game.

  • $50?

    wtf

  • Yep, that's how much my aunt bought it for at the time. I have no idea where she went to get.

  • Why the hell would you spend $50 for this crap?

  • IDk ask her...

  • sounds something like andrew W.K at the beginnning

  • this is even shittier then the bram stoker's dracula super mario style game. I totally agree with you. the books owned, but the movie and game are shit.

  • lol get it add heros of the lacne LOL

  • Oi, anyone who's ever played D&D knows that the cleric stays right by the wizard!

Cleric = bandaid who waits for the fight to be over or covers with a crossbow unless undead are around.

  • Tell that to the guys over at GameFAQs... only one 9/10 score, with thirty other reviews ranging from 1s to 3s, mostly 1s.

Why would anyone watch something they didn't like unless it was an assignment? I actually like SpoonyOne. Otherwise, I wouldn't watch.

I haven't played this game myself yet, so I really can't say, but from what I've seen in this video, this game looks horrible.

  • I'm not going to argue about preferences, I still stand by my comment which is that there is a high chance that you stumble upon this video because you really like the game, besides, this is how role-play games in 1988 look like.

Di, di, diii, di di di di diri...

di, di dii, di di di di diri.

Ta ra raaaa ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra.

Di di di di didi di didi di, Di di di didi di di di

    Tararararararararara..

    (Repeat)

    Cool music.

  • If it makes you feel better to think that. I know I didn't know about this video until I saw this video. I was already a fan of his FMV-Hell series.

Oh, and I own the original Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior games, and have played Adventure for the PC (from 1977) and Atari(1979). I know what old-school RPGs are like. Heroes of the Lance does not live up to the standard that Dragon Warrior set, and that game is boring by today's standards. (I still love DW, don't get me wrong)

  • game reviews are most of the time arguing about whether the vanilla or chocolate flavor is the best, this is similar to say that county music is better than classical music, or that jazz is better than opera, when it come to games it's all about personal preferences. I also like final fantasy and dragon warrior, but this guy SpoonyOne wants to make look this game as the most crappy game ever, it could be in his own head.

  • Okay... did you ever consider the possibility that this review was put up solely as COMEDY? Nothing he says is meant to be taken seriously. The over-the-top complaining and screaming and sarcasm is meant to be funny.

99% of all these Youtube game reviewers are exaggerating their dislike for these games, and in some cases, they like the games in real life.

    Sheesh... the Joker was right...

  • You're probably right, and if we compare this game with Zelda II, then yeah this is definitely boring.

  • They way I beat the game on the C=64 was to use the Kender. Yes, the Kender. He can fire (at least should be able to) fire off stones with his staff/sling thing. Once you reach the end, switch to the priestess and your done. Then again, I never liked the NES controller. Same reason I hate the PS controller, same crappy cruciform pad!

  • Just want to nitpick a little...great video, but you're saying Ryestlin, is pronounced "RAY-stlin" this straight from Margaret Weis.

I emailed her as a fanboy probably over ten years ago and she actually responded to me, my question was on the pronunciation of Raistlins name.

  • Spoony? KODT SpoonyOne? Wow!

Hey I played and beat this game on the C=64, what an easy game and the ending was so lame. Still it was my first D&D themed gamed.

  • I'm going to add this..

Lol at getting raped by a bald Gully Dwarf!

  • dude! ur my fav game reviewer behind avgn!

  • poor doom master :( lol

  • Awesome man. Totally hilarious.

You're the only old school game reviewer other than the Nerd who I find even tolerable... and you're actually really funny.

    Very well done.

  • He's right. The books were awesome and when I first played the games on the nes emulator I thought they were cool but now in hindsight it was horrible. Almost nothing in common with the series except the names.

  • 6:34

    Aaaah...

    Lol!

  • I wouldn't really trust these kinds of video reviews period, everyone's always trying to be entertaining or funny and critical analysis of the game is often lost or distorted in that. I don't take Spoony as a great video game critic but he does usually do a fantastic job on the humor and entertainment value.

I still haven't gotten over the draw system in his FF8 review and how he exaggerated it like no tomorrow, but I take the videos for what they are.

  • Wow, you were so pissed you didn't even end it with a song

  • Even if he didn't, the lack of effort that went into looking into this game... especially concerning the fact he wants people to take his reviews seriously...

Further, there are a number of falsehoods in this review, the primary one, in my mind, is that you CAN beat the last boss without the cleric (You must recover her staff if she dies, though)

Also, I'd like to note that more than half the cast have projectile attacks.

I'll post my own review of this, at some point, I think...

  • Um... he posted this on YouTube, which lends a little weight to the idea that he has internet access...

So he did, and does, have access to the manual. Even if he's using a pirated ROM, he could easily good look up the controls at GameFAQs or on TSR's old site...

    good enough argument?

  • Dude... did you even read the manual?

honestly, about 90% of the "these old games suck" vids are due to ignorance of the controls or something similar...

for example, you'd find by reading the manual that to pick up items, you simply open the menu and hit "pick up"... gee, that was hard, huh?

You said yourself "I don't know the controls because they're so busted"... hmm... perhaps you should, as the developer intended, RTFM!!!!!

I hate people who can't read...

  • He's probably not being totally serious

  • I thought that at first, but he confirmed that this is indeed a serious review

  • hmm, when does he ever confirm something about how serious he's being?

I honestly think sometimes you can't take a word he says seriously at ALL

  • He was rambling on about it in his other videos...

  • perhaps if you'd bother to listen to what he said rather than ignore everything and focus on the negative you'll notice that at the very start he says if you don't read the book and the manual you'll be lost.regardless of if you read the manual the controls still sucked.

i hate people who can't listen...

  • Yes, he said you'd be lost without reading the book and manual, however in the review itself he's bitching about not knowing the controls... which was the criticism I was making...

  • I LOVE the book series, the movie wasn't bad for a animation but the game is one of the worst games ever.

  • I like this game! But hey, we all have our own oppinions!

  • Hey SPoony,you have a Snes Right

  • i own this game and i could only get as far as the cliff on the first screen!!! and i got it for free from my cousin who was about to throw it away!

  • you realize there's a door above your characters, right?

  • It looks to me like the dude with the green suit (dont know his name) is moon walking forward.

  • Thats a draconian as Spoony has said in the video.

  • I got the Dragonlance Chronicles set yesterday in the mail and i'm reading Dragons of Autumn Twilight right now; and you're RIGHT, it's an AWESOME BOOK so far!

    And lol at the suicide.

I guess i'll be getting to the chapter on Xak Tsaroth soon.

  • "Maybe he has a shot- hey, he floats!" *DIES*

  • I have that game and it is broken. Granted, once you catch on to how everything works it's somewhat managable but it's still a very poor game. It's too complicated, the fights are too hard, the enemies all respawn, everything looks the same,no way to recover from a pit fall, no clue that you need Goldmoon to throw her staff at the end, to way to know if you're doing anythign right.
