The song was written by Ron Angel, an ICI chemical worker working in the plants in Teeside North Yorkshire, England, in the mid-60s. It's not Irish, either.

I've been listening to their music for years now and I absolutely love their arrangements. However, they're not from Ireland :-).
I am aware of the fact that the Foreign Feathers group is not "from Ireland". Notwithstanding that fact, I stand by my initial comment. ;^)
