The ending of this movie always brings me to tears, not because of all of the death, not because of anything in the movie itself, but because when I see the grave the Colonel that Tom Hanks played in this movie, I always think of my grandfather who is buried at Tahoma National Cemetery in Washington State (it is the Arlington of the West Coast), and I always cry when I visit him at his little notch on the wall of the veterans.

Rest in Peace, Robert O. Coleman.
