I just bought this car and I am amazed, 5 star crash rating so its good for my kids and thats the main reason I bought it . I have a 5 year old and a newborn and I feel safe. I have the 4 cylinder model I am not sure if they come ina six but I wouldent want a six anyway. It does shift weird lol I like it though it has some pep to it and a very sensitive gas pedal compared to my powerful bonneville ! Over all I love it, its a good family car and built well and the price and gas are spot on ! Nice
Hey bro. I'm from venezuela.. I like this car a lot.. But i have a question! How has been your or your brother's experience with this car? I mean, problems with mechanic parts like motor, transmission and others. I would like to know and please if you can answer it will be nice!
@neoe22 Its not a bad car really sure it is cheap in parts but its been a good runner. My brothers only complaint so far has been the gas tank size in the car he wishes it could be a tad bigger especially since he drives now 100 miles everyday. No mechanical complaints to speak of as of yet for this year of dodge caliber.
Cool video! Both of my Focus's had front disc/rear drum brakes...it does seem weird as my 1990 Oldsmobile has 4 wheel discs..lol.
I just test drove 2 of these today, 2010's...they redid the interior with better quality materials...I really liked it actually. It's definitely on my list of cars to buy this fall.
My mom owns a 2009 caliber I drove it out to Vegas the other day and I could not go up hill at any more then 60mph b4 I hit the redline wth is up with that have any suggestions also when I brake and accelerate at a random moment I get this crack sound in the transmission do you think it's having trouble switching gears on the cvt ???
@iRigo22 It might be having transmission issues. I think these transmissions are hit or miss in these cars. This one doesn't have any transmission issues there are however suspension clunks every once and a while when you hit bumps. I think if I were you I'd have yours looked at it might be mechanical or a fault in the computer system thats not letting the cvt switch gearing.
@iRigo22 it hits red line because it has a cvt tranny. it has pullys not gears. this causes it not to shift until you let off the gas. it is supposed to improve gas mileage or something. but thats why it red lined
Hey, the vid is good man! own a 2009 caliber, good solid cars. Now i have one question though, i bought it used (it was a rental, had 20 000 mi) the main controls for the windows, on the drivers side. Do all four lights light up green? and do they light up all round the car? only the drivers window switch lights up, is this normal? I'm not too sure if thats just normal or if theres a short somewhere!
From what I remember and I can tell the lights only light up on the drivers control with the green it should be normal for this vehicle. Thanks for the comment!
Yes very true but I think their are better cvts out there for the money this one being inexpensive I think you will feel or will notice that it won't feel like cvt's found in luxury cars or higher grade cars. Anythings possible and I take it as the motor ages the probability will increase and especially if he hot rods it around which hes not known to do but hey anythings possible.
The tpms is the tire pressure monitoring system in the car. The caliber is reliable so far I still however don't have faith in that nissan cvt that they stuck on it I have the feeling that one of these days the cvt will redline this car to the point of explosion under passing conditions.
Not as many as I would have thought of. This car is getting alot of squeaks and noises coming from the center counsel when we drive it. Plus it keeps having tpms troubles either its really sensitive or its just one of the rear tpms that is on its way out the door.
Because the turn signal lens is so close to the headlight, the headlight gets extinguished when the particular signal is activated so the intensity of the turn signal flashing won't be diminished to the eye observing it by a stronger, steady daytime running light, sometimes hooked up to the high beam circuit. This further intensifies the steady light into your eyes.
Makes sense so then I can sue dodge when I go blind from having someone blind me with their turn signal 2 blocks away lol. It must not be new technology though because I thought I remember someone saying that they had and older car that had it too but it has slipped my mind. Thanks Howie even though I don't like it, it makes sense.
Look at it this way Richard, it is all in place to meet visibility standards. A case of something bad, let us go back to 1958 with, say Plymouth vehicles. The park/turn signals were mounted just above, and in between the dual headlights. The bulbs in the park/turn lights were white as well, and were so until legislated to be amber from 1963 onwards. You can imagine how poorly seen a left turn signal could be to oncoming cars when the headlights were on in some of these old cars.
hey Richard, what is up with the dash cover? i seen one on your Fusion, i have to say i have never seen one before, i don't even think you can get them in Canada? is that from the dealer? or aftermarket? or is it home made? whats its purpose? to protect the dash from the sun? is that a problem in Colorado? i would think maybe a more desert area like Arizona or Texas might need such a cover, but the plains of Colorado? or is there another purpose?, always wondered thanks
Hey Brent, really you have never seen one before I thought they were quite common. I get my covers from our local walmart thru their automotive department. But I have heard you can get them from Napa or pretty much most car parts supplier around here. The purpose of it mainly is like you say to protect the dash which it does a great job at that. cont'd
In colorado we do have problems with dashes cracking it is really apparent in the older cars like my 72. Later on down the road when I get the interior done it will get a dash mat as well. I recommend them strongly they look good plus now they have a very extensive color choice that can match any dash board. Oh you can trust me on that the plains don't often see 120 degree temps like Arizona or Texas but we do on most days in the summer reach 100.
also modern cars (90s to current) with a vinyl top up here in the province of Ontario Canada is about as rare as a Pink Dusenburg with hydraulics!, now when i cross over to Michigan, there every where, well there more common then Canada, sure we have 60s/70s/80s cars with vinyl tops, but no 90s or 2000s, i know they have really fell out of style, but there every where on the tri Ford crown vic, and Marquis and Town car, and other cars like Monte Carlo and Caddy's and others in Michigan,
i swear i am a 70 year old man instead of 19 going on 20, i hate driving modern cars and trucks, the one thing that bugs me the most is the dang do everything wand, i put on my turning signal, and if i am not careful i can have the dang windshield wipers going,or blast someone with the high beams, that wand does way to much, i like my truck, simple chrome stick and black plastic knob, and it only operates the turning signal,i prefer the classic dash knobs, and floor high beam button, vs. magic wand
yea im a ford guy but i hate there 4 position wand for high brites winshield and everthing else it snaps and clackels as i move it around i just want to break the damn thing off that wouldnt work out though lol
amen to that, i don't know who had the idea for the do everything wand, it sure gets annoying, you go to signal and 2 different things happen if you don't hit the wand right, plus i hate figuring out each different wand, they got wipers, lights, turn signals on one wand, they will soon have that wand also start the car, and change gears and accelerate and apply the brakes and cruise control and radio tuner! and climate control lol lol, i can only imagine that magic wand! lol lol :)
I like some points of the Multifunction switch but like you guys say most companies anymore over complicate a very simple design. For one switch you just need windshield wipers and turn signals and maybe if to your liking high beams. But like this car here you have your headlights your wipers etc it is very annoying when you drive a car like this for the first time and you have to study the switches for an hour to figure out what everything does.
you should go to a 75-91 Econoline van, we can take that column controls and retro fit them to your 72 steering column, since the 67-72 steering columns didn't change much when the 73-79 trucks came out, and the 75-91 ford vans share the same gauge cluster as the 73-79 trucks along with park lights and tail, and there columns are virtually the same, but then the key moves to the column that's the big difference from our trucks, but they do have the magic wand in the later years! :) lol lol lol
The unfortunate part with the multifunction switches is that on most makes, it does not matter who the company is, the failure rate is above what one would normally expect from electrical parts. Of course they are unit parts, so the entire switch must be replaced when one little thing goes wrong. Non-canceling turn signals seem the be the biggest bane of these.
yeah tan can be nice change from the standard gray, a lot of car companies where really bad for gray interiors in the 80s and 90s, its nice to see more selection again, like white, black, tan, and sometimes even red or other colors that go along with the outside paint, i never got why they changed, car companies used to color match the interior to the exterior, i really like that a whole lot better, previous owner of my truck painted the interior, black, its going red now to match the outside

hahaha i LOVED how you referred to it as a disposable car! Believe it or not the Caliber is Chryslers most reliable vehicle at the time. I wouldnt even think of looking at one unless it was the SRT4 those are sick! otherwise the engines in the standard Calibers suck and so do the CVT trannys.
Well my brother loves dodges and like you said I convinced him to get the caliber over the avenger he wanted since the caliber was one of the only consumer rated reliable vehicles. He did of course want the srt4 but too pricey and rare for around here. Im not a fan of the cvts in this car others I have ridden in are much smoother than this one.
Its not been a bad car to say the least. It is very fitting for my brother and it appeals to the new generation. The G5 does that greatly as well and I think are pretty evenly matched.
I sure will check out your latest video. The reason being they would make a 4speed instead of 5 speed on that car is the expense it would cost them to put another set of gearing into that trans. I bet gm figures if they want the 5 speed give it to them in a manual for cost savings.
I really like the civics nice cars the corollas not so much they are kind of bland if you ask me. I haven't seen an astra up close yet but they look real sporty and apeal to the new generation.
And it came with a house hold plug !

I have worked at ford and chrysler as a technician and ford uses a cvt trans also
and both makes with the cvt trans act the
same. at wide open throttle, the engine
goes to max and the car catches up.
They haven't given any trouble but I am having trouble getting use to them as well
