Oh...Oh....Oh!!!! So majestic. Right from the heart of God. Beautiful artistry and beautiful spirits. I agree with LABONITAESPERA, "Chills and Tears. I was driving when I first played this on the CD and was almost blown off the highway by the love of God. Thank you for posting. I praise God for Kirk Whalum and Lalah Hathaway. This CD played for 9 months in my van. Love it.
Man, Kirk is really changing up the setup frequently. We did some playing together in the early 90s and
back then it was Keilwerth with a early model Brecker Guardala (seems he had a branford guardala also at one time) and #4 reeds, He did spend some time on a Guardala model Tenor, but it looks now like he is back on a Keilwerth, nickel SX90R this time and a Sugal Mouthpiece, Kirk Whalum edition.
That amazingly smooth sound comes from his MASSIVE air column pounding down on #4 reeds.
Kurt and Lalah have never won a Grammy. In 2010, Kurt did a jazz CD to pay homage to his musical hero, Donny Hathaway. This CD didn’t get nominated for a Grammy. Then Kurt released a gospel CD with Lalah in 2010, and a song on the project ended up winning a Grammy. In the end, Kurt paid the ultimate tribute to Donny Hathaway by featuring his daughter this gospel CD. Kurt’s desire to honor someone other than himself, though God’s music, finally earned him and Lalah music industry’s top prize.
Holy God .... it is wonderful! I won the Friday! A friend once told me that from trying to learn the guitar he eventually discovered his talent: to hear someone playing guitar. I'm guessing mine too .... Enjoy!
man, Lalah's so beautiful. I love this. I caught Make Me a Believer on the radio and noticed Lalah's voice right away....now I'm hip to the talent of the Whalum brothers
I coincidently & recently just discovered Kirk Whalum & the Gospel According to Jazz 3 CD a couple of weeks ago b/c of the Make Me A Believer song. After it came in from the library I became infactuated by this song. Even though I have the CD on my Ipod i will be buying the DVD. So glad this song won a Grammy. What Kirk is doing with his Gospel inspired jazz is unique and incredible.
I don't even believe in god, but I know great music when I hear it.
