  • So true and I say it all the time too. I am a weight loss coach and I eat before going to bed almost every day. A calorie surplus is a bit more likely to get stored at night, but when in balance or a deficit it makes absolutely no difference when you eat! None!

  • I was watching a documentary on Sumo wrestlers that said they like to take a nap right after they eat so they gain more subcutaneous fat than they normally would since if they were awake then they would be burning more calories. I think there's more factors to this

  • this is forgetting about insulin spikes if you take in to many refined carbs before bed. Yes if you still maintain a calorie deficit you'll lose WEIGHT but most likely it won't be FAT. When your insulin is spiked your body tends to hold on to its fat stores and if its not getting energy from fat its going to go for proteins in your muscles. The timing of your meals is important as to what type of carbs to eat and when.

  • couldnt focus on the video coz i was looking at the cat loool

  • cats tailhahahaha

  • Thumbs up if you noticed the cat's tail on the left side of the screen on the first view! lol Good video!

  • duudeee ur a genius :D ur vids make me wana pump iron! RIGHT NOW! lol

  • hi steve, my name is frank i'm 5'7 hight and i'm 34 years old my weight is 147 lbs i want to gain weight but i can't. in the morning i eat junk food at work like MacDonals or jack in the box etc. i get home like around 6 and go to buy like a meat burrito. i rarely exercise may be its why i don't gain weight please advice !!!

  • I followed this guys advice to the T, ate and slept, now I'm even obeser than I was! FRAUD

  • @Carnuss No you didn't you fucking stupid cunt.

  • @Carnuss maybe because you werent working out enough.. you cant just eat sleep and expect to not get fat

  • @Carnuss lol oh shit sorry to hear... Man I went to twinmuscleworkout and honestly Ive lost 4-5kgs in 2weeks(not trying to cut fast). Im cutting at the mo and the twins helped me BIG time. Im not trying to interfere with Steve's advice Im just saying go check them out. I liked the advice they gave and it worked!!!

  • man thank you for posting videos that are short and straight to the point unlike those 30 min long videos that talks about shitty stuff that doesnt even make sense

  • I start on one of these videos and end up watching ten...

  • @BodyPerformanceTV Steve, you really are the man, there's so much rubbish out there! You reminded me how I lost fat in the first place, not by going low carb, not by eating tonnes of protein, but by reducing calories and moving more!

  • @zanecha Thank you! SO gad I could help.

  • I like this guy. No bullshit, myth busting tips and with a touch of humor.

  • KITTY!

  • such a shame that guy hasn`t produced a single video lately ...

  • Hi Steve. I am 28yrs old & 5"8 male weighing in @ 114 kg I used to do a lot of sport some years ago but stopped when I moved house, now I cycle all the time but do not seem to loos anything even when I am calorie counting ? I want to start jogging but do not have a clue where to start, as iv never done it as a hobby only a warm up before a sport (not really jogging / running) where do i start ? types of trainers to wear, surface like road or grass, things to do and not to do before and after?

  • @sammohung82 i was obese on the bmi calculator and am now at a normal weight, i started running like this.. week 1 Run 3 mins walk 1 min repeat 6 times (do 3 times a week) week 2 Run 5 mins walk 2 mins repeat 4 times (do 3 times a week) after that i just ran flatout for 1/2 hour, now im doing half marathons once a week and 7 1/2 miles 3 times a week, its just perseverence you WILL get there (oh yeah and buy GOOD running shoes). if you want any more advice inbox me.

  • what about hotdogs?

  • Can I eat the subway diet and still have a calorie deficet?

  • Would you recommend decreasing the amount of carbohydrates at night though? For example, I feel that drinking a glass of orange juice before bed would be a bad idea.

  • good advice thx

  • Hi ! I'm a fat bastard. I want to get ripped. Should I loose the weight first and then build the muscle ? That's what I figure. :)

  • Thanks again

  • Hi Steve, i'm a 15 year old girl..i'm 5'3 and i weigh 125. I'm quite strong for my age, but i want more muscle:p mainly in my stomach, my stomach is the place where i have the most fat and it drives me insane >.< i do ab workouts and everything but that doesn't help! Any suggestions?

  • @YourBeautifulLovely You're still growing so we don't want to cut your calories too much. But do cardio (walking, walking and jogging) will help your body burn fat.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV steve what range of ages do you consider still what age do we stop growing basically is my question?

  • @YourBeautifulLovely

Adding muscle to your stomach isn't going to make it look less fat, and yeah calorie deficits are not good for growing kids worry about it in your 20s

  • steve im 15 and i skateboard alot and each day for about 3-5 hrs. i eat break fast and when i come home at like 8 im starving and i eat and idk if i gain weight but it looks like i do idk what im doing wrong please respond is better of not eating at night or something

  • You know you are the only person who has taken all the bullshit that is being spewed from other trainers I have talked to and have layed it out in simple forms of common sense. None of this huge list of rules, you break it down where you can understand and keep it simple, on not what you eat as compared to how much you eat, times of day and so forth. You just gained a subscriber for sure and thanks for being s traight to the point and simple this make getting into shape alot less stressful

  • Love your cats tail, I mean body.

  • Comment removed

  • I love seeing the cat's tail wagging in the background! =^..^=

  • i'm glad i heard someone saying this. I'm tired of hearing all the fat farts out there talking about not eating b4 they go to bed. How about stop eating shitty food all day long and not worrying about pre bed meals lmao. that might make a difference lol. thax steve

  • Lmfao!! The tail!

    I can't even concentrate!! LOL!!

  • what about your bmr am i to eat less than that which is 22oo caloriesto lose weight

  • Hello, just want to say Thank You! I just decided to start weight training and your videos are quite helpful.

  • Hi Steve, My name is David Im 12 in years 5,4 in hight and weigh 130 Lbs. and wanting to lose weight and gain Mucsle at the the same time do you have any videos on it or any Ideas Like your videos! P.s Please comment back! :)

  • @DJwarproductions1 David, I have 250 videos on weight loss and muscle building. And yes, you can lose fat and build muscle. Just look around on my You Tube page.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV go to sleep kid you 12 you dont need to worck out idiot

  • but I know , If I eat late at night (small portion of food) , next day I put on weight .....

    It doesn't work for me....

  • what a grt help thougt i knew it all i know nothing thanx steve

  • @fuckilluminatiscum My pleasure!

  • Steve, is exercising just after you've woken up a myth? You hear it all the time. "As soon as you get up, don't eat any breakfast and go for your three mile run and you'll be burning more fat that you normally would to say, 9pm a night" I know it has something to do with metabolism..

  • @LoftyProduction That's a bunch of BS. It makes no difference when you do cardio or weight lifting. Do it when you like and when it feels good. The results will happen.

  • did u said run or walk 35 miles :) :P? Because when I run, I could burn 2-3 kg easily :-j yeah..but I run 10-20 km

  • Do i really need casein? or in my case Cottage Cheese before i go to sleep to insure my body wont go into a catabolic state?

  • from a weightloss perspective I agree, but I still dont think when you eat is to be completely dismissed. I can't speak for everyone, but personally if I eat a big meal for dinner or end up munching before bed I don't sleep very soundly... I also notice a difference if I eat or not after a workout in my recovery time, but I'm more an endurance athlete type, so replacing glycogen is probably a bigger issue for me.

  • @frodosauce Agreed... Recently i started sleeping a little bit more and not eat at all 3 hour's before bed time which is 10:30PM for me and it has helped tremendously. If his whole thing is how much u eat well that counts too but there really are a lot more facets to weight lost.

  • lols the cats tail XD

  • im not interested in weight loss never get fat...but im a night shift worker and like to eat right b4 bed... it helps me sleep... but youtube ppl reckon the oxygen goes to ya gut so ya dont sleep properly.... but i tell ya food b4 sleep helps me to sleep and i wake up with more energy.... but my whole life i hated breakfast cause i was never hungry in the morning.... ppl say eat b4 sleep ya dont get the goodness from ya food it just digests..... is my body tricking me?

  • @kiwirap Don't worry. Your body doesn't care when it eats. As long as you can sleep and it doesn't bother your stomach you're good!

  • dude is that a cats tail in the lower left hand of the srceen

  • anyone see the tail on the side moving? heheh

  • cottage cheese is ideal "pre-bed" meal (OR snack)!

  • are you aware of recent studies that show the relationship between grehlin, leptin and REM sleep?

the short of it is that you have difficulty entering REM sleep if you don't have enough ghrelin. and that during REM sleep you produce more leptin to keep you from being hungry during the night. ultimately if you don't have enough REM sleep you will wake much hungrier that you would if you had a good nights sleep.

    ghrelin = hunger hormone

    leptin = satiety hormone

  • @stupidnamenoonecares so in effect not eating a few hours before sleeping will help you enter REM sleep which ultimately helps you control hunger issues.

better yet having a good nights sleep helps your overall mental state and helps in all your daily activities.

i don't eat any calories 4 hours before bed, to anyone else who cares i have been following this rule for a few months now and have seen a remarkable improvement in my attitude. lifes so much better if your ready for it.

  • During the night you are significantly less active than during your hours awake, even more significantly you are awake/asleep for a long period of time, so it does make a difference.

  • Out of everything I've seen on YouTube, read in magazines, and seen all over the internet, Steve's advice is the simplest, least BS-filled, and most accurate advice I've heard.

  • is that a cat's tail moving around?

  • @jnoey YEp.

  • @jnoey The cat ate the computer mouse :)

  • yeah late at night your mentabolism slows down

  • @fesuma Your body is operating 24 hours a day. If you get fat it is because of an excess of calories,..not what time you ate those calories.

  • i dont think its a big problem with the eating before bed and fat thing but i think the problem comes with digestion. when your sleeping its rest time...your mind gets a good rest but if you eat before bed your body is digesting all night. thats why when you have a good nights sleep you can still be very tired when you wake up because your mind was sleeping but your body was working all night digesting food

  • I love your channel...sound advice.

oh and love the little tail just off screen...haha

  • KITTY!!!!!!!

  • Again bad advice. Eating before going to bed is not healthy. Why? Because when you sleep your body detoxifies. This is why if you don't sleep enough you increase the risk of cancer. If you ate something your body will be trying to digest the food when it should be trying to detoxify. Very bad advice.

  • Is that a kitty I see in the left hand corner of the desk? Cute!

  • But what happens if I eat pure chocolate with my eyes closed and the lights out?

Won't that give me an excess of darkness?

  • LOL AT THE CAT TAIL! :P great videos by the way.

  • It's not really how much you eat as it's what you eat. You can eat unlimited amounts of greens all day and still run a calorie deficit.

  • @ChillyTChris you got it all wrong mate. its deffinately how much you eat if youre eating a healthy diet. if you eat greens all day that isn't healthy.

  • very good point

  • @piratelord99 thank you! Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Once there search Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve Turano

  • I cant even concentrate on what he's saying... i cant stop watching the cats tail hehehehe!!!

  • my question since i have a fast metabolism, i was wondering if i should eat more then i normally do?

  • That depends of whether or not you want to gain weight (fat.)

  • Hi steve could you show us your cat one day?

  • Hahahha! The cat's tail is funny!

  • Help Please

I don't understand this ATP crap or whatever, people say you only have 5 or 8 seconds of it or something, if i'm wrong please correct me, but if I only have 8 seconds of it why am I even warming up and spending an hour in the gym :/, but i'm sure it doesn't work like that, anyways if you regain it or whatever from resting a few seconds, is it best to do set workouts instead of a routine, someone please bless me with knowledge :D

    Thank you in advance

  • ATP is essentially the unit of energy that our body uses. Overall, our body is constantly producing ATP and in the average person, about 2kg of ATP are made/consumed in a day. ATP along with other components, drive the formation of glycogen in the muscles, which they love to utilize in order to move.within the muscle we have about 900kcal of glycogen that can be utilized by the muscle. Overall, you are not limited to 8 seconds of ATP overall, but possibly only to 8 seconds per rep.

  • @pronation1 Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Once there search Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve Turano

  • haha look at the cats tail on the left =)

  • i do understand now coz i eat at night .....but not heavy meals ...only healthy one like dried feags with green tea ...or macadamian nuts something like that ..

  • the problem with eating immediately before bedtime is not weight gain , but the spike in blood sugar. VERY BAD. don't do it

  • That's not true.

  • Why would having a healthy snack before bed spike your insulin? A healthy snack before bed is a VERY good idea. I have slice of Ezekial bread with almond butter heated in the microwave with spreadable fruit and a glass of skim milk. That's how I STAY lean.

  • @7immortal7 look at his "you have been asking" video jackass

  • you have a cat??? on the left I could see a tail wagging :)

  • 20 pounds gone. thanks

  • this isnt entirely true, if you are trying to build muscle yo ushould have a constant protein intake because you need protein to build muscle and your body cant store protein.

  • Yes it is true. The body digests natural proteins like fish, chix and beef much more slowly and they last longer in the gut making them available for much longer periods. But the average lifter or muscle mag reader doesn't understand or believe this.

  • thats why they make casein.

  • How can I gage the amount of calories i've burned as a result of my working out? Is there a reliable way? If so, what is it?

  • What about beer....

I slug a few cold-ones before I go to sleep 2-3 times a week....is that equal to eating a meal before I go to sleep.???

  • yes

  • Aw man, that sucks.....

Beer is mans best friend....Why does simple physics have to be soo difficult????

  • yeah it is

  • A CAT !!! on the left

  • I do ten miles on my elliptical every day which allows me to eat ANYTHING and still lose weight. I also do isometrics on my abs, neck, shoulders and arms during my workout. Can you make a vid about penis exercise, care and health?

  • @TheyCallMeSnotty actualy that is untrue...you cant just eat ANYTHING....for example: cholesterol. Cholesterole isnt like fats . it doest break down..your will excrete 5% of it every excretion cycle...no more than 5% (unless you take drugs or medicines)

  • LOL...a ton of women believe that stuff! It's funny you say that because I've heard that a million times. I don't know what they're reading in those women's mags, but somebody's not doing there homework. I've dated some very educated women who then turn around and recite ideas about diet and body composition and weightloss that I swear are right out of the year 1935. I dated a girl that believed in the whole.." My body is Spoon or a Pear shape" idea, so they need to eat towards that bodytype.

  • All my girlfriends starve themselves at night because the believe the eating at night myth. But then they think doing weights will make their muscles grow huge, despite the fact they know I do weights and are always saying they wished they had a body like mine, aaaaahhhhhh!!!

  • I'm working with a lady now who has those exact misconceptions abiout eating.

  • I have an Almond butter sandwich on wheat bread with a glass of skim milk almost every night before bed. It keeps me satisfied and I sleep very well. This is one of the things that help me to stay lean.

  • When ya'll say eat... What type of food you mean eating before you go to sleep? Like snacks, or a big meal?

  • I eat in the middle of the night almost every night, I wake up and if I dont eat anything i cant fall back a sleep,is that bad for me...Its probablly bad for my teeth I would guess, ive been maintaining my wieght even with doing this

  • Steve:

I can see your cat's tail!

  • I'm 5'11 and weigh 160. And i'm about 18% body fat. I eat about 1100 calories a day but strangley i never get hunger pangs or even feel hungry if i havn'e eaten in awhile. I almost have to force myself to eat. Is this normal and would drinking water while exercising trick youre stomach into thinking it's full.

  • ok, I have very little fat. ver very little. i want to get big (musculat). so i used to eat 2 bananas then 30 mins later a whey protein after workout. now i take waxy maze and glutamine in orange juice. should I go back to my older way (bananas)?

  • Food dont make you BiG Lifting weights does.

  • food is what makes you big. Lifting weight stimulates the process that makes you big. an increase in nervous impulses to muscles causes myohypertrohy. without food, muscles do not 'repair' and do not incorporate anything in them. Thus, food is DIRECTLY what gets you big. Lifting is what INDIRECTLY gets you big. Having said that, you MUST have both to get big. without either, you wont get big

  • no its the other way around. weght lifting is what makes you big, food stimulates

  • lifting weights doesnt stimulate anything but ur hormones the reason u gain muscle when u lift are the muscle strands ripping and repairing themselves. thats why food is important because they give the nutrition needed to repair muscle. lifting weights is the DIRECT cause of the ripping muscle tissue and food is the indirect cause. think of ur body like a car and food is the fuel

  • @MattDurling you're right. it is very hard to draw the line. But it is a fact that lifting weight stimulates the 'repair' of muscle-->thus the gain. When lifting, there are a lot of nerve impulses to muscle fibers. Some will 'tear'...that is the stimulus...but the food wil actually MAKE the muscles!!! food is like the ingredient that fixes and makes the muscle cells. as for the hormones, I like to think of them as the stimulus to 'directing' and 'allowing' the food to fix that muscle.

  • Any function of the body will use calories. Whether it's the digestive system, the respitory system, you name it. The body repairs itself and uses a few extra calories daily to accomplish this. It will even take calories from stored fat to do this. 90% of muscle building and training is done in the gym. Food, excess food or whatever is NOT the main driver in muscle gain.

  • nice shirt, big baller...

  • i remeber you, i kicked your your ass in high school.

  • lol not all of us sit at a computer all day and read books.

  • Is that a cat over on the left of the screen?

  • We Americans should know about deficits. HAHAHA!

  • When the body is warmed up and this is typically in the early afternoon. BUT exercising is the MOST important thing not when you do it.

  • I have a question. What time of day is the best to exercise? Does it matter?

  • Cat...the other white meat

  • Nice cat.

  • is it good to eat cereal for night?about 250ml milk and cereal???WILL I GAIN WEIGHT IF I EAT THIS FOR NIGHT BEACUSE I ONLY EAT 1 APPLE!

  • He looks like steve hirsch the owner of Vivid entertainment.

  • Actually, the difference is that when you go to sleep insolence levels are low and when your in your office in the day your insolence is higher. Because your insolence is low at night or when you sleep to be more specific, carbs[both simple carbs(sugar) and complex carbs(low glycemex carbs)] will not be used for energy and stored as fat.

  • its insulin not insolence hahahahah insolence means a lack of respect LOL

  • ha, yea guess I overlooked that XD lol

  • Let me correct my self a little here... it's not necessarily insolence (unless your diabetic) but the fact that once carbs are "shuttled into cells" so to speak, if they are not used than they are simply converted into fat.

  • i see that cat.

  • Sorry, but you're incorrect......Doctor. Doctors have already proven it!!!!

  • Epic pwnage
