  • At 0:24-0:25 -- "ThunderCats." :)

  • This is actually from the "Turn To..." series from Frank Gari. The "Stand Up..." used the same theme, but was re-worked to focus on the community, rather than the station. This originated with WKYC in Cleveland in 1983, and the "Stand Up..." originated at WXYZ in 1984. Still a great theme IMO.

  • When it comes to Frank Gari's Turn to News promos...

Not a fan of that set of promos, which feature programming offers.

I'm more of a fan of community-minded set of promos, like the Stand up and tell em ones for ABC7 WXYZ Detroit.

  • @JackBauer152 KCBA began in 1981 as an independent station. In 1986, the station became a Fox affiliate

  • 0:49- Harry Morgan's in that one. I assume it's for that sitcom he did back then.

  • those are some baaad actors...

  • Did you know Craig Kilborn and Kirsten Wilde was at the station?

Was that her in the video?

  • Is that Kirstie Wilde in the video?

  • I like this!

  • Good quality video. Thanks a lot for posting it.

  • 0:38 - champagne flutes in bed, she has a tissue and he's lookin' bored. I wonder what he's thinking? the whole thing is low budget, cuts-only...

  • at 0:08, she's watching an approx 12" panasonic VHS player/monitor unit. No tv tuner in it at all. seems a little silly to imply that she's watching KCBA on this monitor...

  • In fact I believe that this was the original "Turn to..." promo. From that there were a few other promos with the "Turn to" tagline, but many others what used the same tune but with the tagline "Stand up and tell 'em you're from ___". You can search "Stand up 4 Nashville" for example. Then WPXI used in in the new millenium - same tune, retrofitted from 10 years earlier.

  • In my country, América TV (channel 4 in Lima) used a similar promo (with same jingle), but with a twist! The "Turn to (Stand Up)" image campaign by Frank Gari also worked on unprofitable markets such as the Philippines and Peru.

  • Isn't this like Stand Up for WPXI?

  • Isn't it? The "Stand Up..." that WPXI used was a much later version, updated for the new millenium.
