If my daughter came home and said she wanted to marry at any age below 18 the answer would be NO!!! A 9 year old girl has no real perception of what marriage is, or what it involves sexualy and otherwise. If my daughter came home and said she wanted to marry at any age below 18 the answer would be NO!!! A 9 year old girl has no real perception of what marriage is, or what it involves sexualy and otherwise. @smk374 Girls reach puberty and adulthood when they experience the above three signs. However, they have a fourth sign, that is, menstruation (hayd). Whenever a girl experiences it, she is a woman even if she is 12 years old.

@smk374 yes they may have. but people use to do it for money etc, greed. but this wouldnt be the case for me. i wouldnt do it for money or nothing. i would just do it for the best of my daughter. hence i would first prefer somebody oyunger. if not, then as long as the man can support my daugher etc, then Allah knows best, its permissible.

@umayra786 The girl is not wrong to marry an old guy. It is the old man who is wrong to misuse a society-structure that allows this. When women are without any rights without the approval of a husband she is often forced to marry a much older man at an early age.This does not make such practises right.
We know that this still takes place and that 9 year old girls are forced into marriage by their families. Can you tell me how this is OK???

@MrBeerbug when a girl reaches the age of 9, as per islamic sharia, she is ok to get married. if she is phyiscaly developed, matured etc, its ok. now its just the soceity and culture to get married when your 18 ish..but there are mayn girls who are ready for marriage even younger then 15, what about those?...they are not forced, any marriage which is forced is not permissible or accepted as per islam.

@MrBeerbug if i had a duaghter who was 9 or a bit older..and hse was ready to get married etc, then why not?..i would never force her, why? this is wrong. also this is against islam. the marriage would not be valid. i would let her get married at this age. if the man was a lot older, in his 70s or whatever, this i wouldnt like. but i wouldnt say no either, i would look and see he can look after my daughter properly. and Allah knows best

@umayra786 I never said that it was an excuse but you have to understand that we dont have the same problem with priests who does not live in celibacy, such as protestants. I can go out in my country when I want to without fear. Much of the fear in our society is largely induced by the media because it sells newspapers. It is far more interesting when the headline says "Pedo on the lose!!!" Than if it says something positive and uplifting.

Right, any time I say something defamatory against a religion, its because I don't "know enough" about it. It must be that all sources of knowledge which portray Christianity in the negative light it deserves are incorrect.... On the other hand, maybe Christians are in denial.... Considering some of the beliefs that Christians hold to begin with, I'm leaning towards the latter.
