The foot pedal you get with the set, as sturdy and well-made as it is, is really the worst thing about the Ion. If you look up the Ion company, you'll see that after the release of the Ion set, they publicly apologized for the noise it made and offered a rebate on a new pedal.

The reality of this is that if you like playing drums on Rock Band and you play them often enough they break. RB1 sets would have the pads crack. RB2 sets would have the rubber on the pads (to reduce the noise) peel off. I'm only a hard/easy expert drummer and I've been through at least 3 or 4 drums sets. The fact is that companies can't produce a drum set that is flawless given the price point.

i'd say the cymbals are more annoying in terms of volume than the kick pedal. reguardless, the set really is terrific. the wing screws or wing nuts, whatever they're called, do strip too easily tho. u can easily replace the stripped nut with a stronger one from a hardware store but i mean 300 bucks and u cant give me a descent wingnut? i still think its worth the price.

tbh i have this kit and its pretty dam good to say the least i found best thing to do as far as the symbols go is to use them for of beat notes to a paticular set for instance when your doing a predomently yellow red beat n they throw random greens your way its far easier to hit my green symbol above my yellow pad rather than move my arm over to far right n like wise for a main green streak my yellow symbol inbetween blue n green so makes those dual red yellows alot easier

You can plug one of the cymbals into the yellow cymbal port, then play that as you would a hi-hat. My setup is i have both yellow and green cymbals on the left side of the kit, the yellow cymbal on the farthest left, the red pad closer to the center (between my legs, like an actual snare would be) and the green cymbal closest to the center so its only slightly to the left of the yellow pad. Also, my red and green pads arent on angles like this guy has his, but level, like a real snare and fl tom

its really not much of a hi hat pedal either :) Doesn't work with the Roland nodules. Its basically a on/off switch like the pedal that comes regular RB set only more rugged. I guess it works with those cheap ION drum kits like the IED01 and maybe with the DM4 or DM5 modules. Its a HUGE improvement over the stock RB pedal though!

Thats exactly what I thought until I played a set. It may not be a real set as it comes out of the box but it plays very similar to one. It feels very natural, not at all toy-like as the other sets are. Worth the money IMO.

You cant just plug the ion into and drum brain though. It has to be the alesis one made epically for this. BUT once you have that which is about 359.99, it has midi in and out so you can use any other drum brains after that. But first you need the one made for the ion drummer.

drum weight is 50pds actually, i trsfr mine over to my neighbors house every once in a while, its a good set, hands down best purchase i have made this year, just don" get the DM5 if you want to convert to electric drum set, go with the TD-8, at least it supports dualzone features on the cymbals.

what is the point of buying drums that cost more than just normal rockband drums for rockband? if your into drums buy a real starter kit.....i dont know how much these ion drums cost but im sure a starter kit for drums would be just around the same amount i play RB2 also but i dont plan on getting any drums that would cost more than 100$.
