this is my guess at why he was interviewing her:

he's the son of someone at the magazine company, and he had a crush on her so he asked if he could interview her. they let him, and he choked because he got too nervous around a beautiful/funny/confident woman. you can tell at parts like 1:32 when she looks him in the eye and he gets all flustered and looks away.
