  • What are wala walas? (sp?)

  • Man I wish I had this setup in my backyard!

  • Thats a lot of cinder blocks!

  • You can see all of my videos, they describe the whole set-up ;-)

  • Hello,

Those large beds that are made out of cinder blocks. Are those dirt all the way down? You have a very nice set up!

  • No mercury leaches into the soil, although it would act as lead does, it can't be taken up by the roots.

  • Nice vid! Question: most modern concrete mixes & products have mercury added, I've been told, to supress molds and things. Do you know if these blocks contain mercury? Thanks!

  • What zone are you in? Fending for Deer?

  • @truvelocity Southern Oregon.....lots and lots of deer ;-)

  • @Jonehughes3384 - Eat more venison! (Smile!)

  • Awesome looking garden!

  • I liked how you made the grape arbor. I used to have grapes in my garden, but they attracted and were eaten up by so many japanese beetles that I decided to remove them. Do you also have this problem, and if so what do you do to prevent them?

  • I am going to post some videos starting next spring showing you what I'm doing thanks to your inspiration. Didn't get it finished this year, the heat got intense so quickly that I had to give up, but Im going in the morning to get about 500 more cinder blocks to make 8 more beds with to go with the 8-4x16' beds I already have from this year. I hope I can get my garden to "bust a move" like yours does. Look forward to seeing more updates on here, as for whatever reason i cant get into photobucket

  • Great project!

  • First year (2010) I was able to donate 5160 lbs of Fresh vegetables to the Food Bank,

In 2011 I was able to donate 9173 lbs

    This garden is totally Blessed.

  • Very nice. Big money. I am too poor to use cinder block built that high. Very nice raise bed garden , You are the MAN.

  • really , really nice. well organized and lookin' great.

  • You are so well organized. I am so envious!

  • Thank you so much for giving practical information for real people, not yuppies on a green mission. Happy Thanksgiving to you.

  • It depends on how big it is, they all varied in size, but they are all 3 blocks tall (24")

  • how many cement blocks do you have for one of those raise beds? i have back problems but love to garden this would work for me , what a great garden !

  • about 15.00 a square foot, but it will be here through the Great Tribulation ;-)

  • how much does it cost to construct one of those cement beds my friend

  • great job

  • No, only the corners and one of the middles (on the larger beds) have concrete, that is for rigidity as well as for the trellis' and row covers.

  • Do you need to fill the blocks with cement? I see you have soil in the tops of all the blocks. Great garden!

  • Very nice!

  • OMGoodness, I just happen to viewing raised beds and I happen to see yours and I thought how ingenious of you to ultilize all of the space of the cement block bed. Bravo!

  • when you get to photobucket

    search for jonehughes3384

  • They are only 3 blocks high and you can see my pics

  • Why 4 block high beds ? Just curious, do you grow crops that drape out so its a self serviing trellis ?

  • i can tell you spend good money on it as well its very nice

  • amazed at all the work!! I know have a huge honey-do list!! Wonderful job! Keep posting!

  • congratulations!

  • Wow. Huge amounts of produce will come out of there. Quite impressive. What is your growing media mixture? Is that pure compost or have you used topsoil and other amendments?

  • Howdy,

I make my own from Bulk Suppliers, I have a Skidsteer and an Excavator, that I use to mix my materials,it took 80 yards of Mixtures this year. Thank God for my implements ;-)

I use Pumice,Decomposed Granite,Topsoils,Compost, Blood Meal, Bone Meal and whatever else I can get my hands on that will improve my bedding..I am hoping to donate at least 2000 lbs of produce to the FoodBank this season for the needy in our community..
