hmm i wanted to disagree with you on describing her voice as achromatic, but im starting to agree with you. normally "grey" or "colourless" is not a good description for the voice but i see what you mean. its almost......smokey? maybe not in the shirley verrett sense, but kinda like leonard warrens voice was? although its rather pointless to you compare males and females in that sense.
Since the days of Kathleen Ferrier and Janet Baker we didn´t have such an orpheus-like contralto-sound anymore. Ms. Stutzmanns deeply touches heart and soul.
What on earth is it with Nathalie Stutzmann's voice that makes that I am touched almost as soon as she sings the first note, regardless the repertoire? I have it with no other singer. It touches me as that one frequently that can brake a glass. Imagine Nathalie singing Hahn's A Cloris.... For me she is a thin line to heaven.
love her she is really wonderful! would love to hear her sing more baroque music, especially french, music. id also love to hear her sing oblivion soave

Natalie Stutzmann.

She as a little sharper pierce to her contralto tone compared to Sara Mingardo, but they share almost the same color! Thanks for this!!!!

That's what I thought while listening to this recording, and in other recordings I noticed that Stutzmann has a bit more harshness than Mingardo...
I love both though... with a preference for Mingardo...
