There has never been any plan for government to "run" healthcare, that was just a myth by Insurance Companies to confuse uneducated people and republicans.

medicare and the public option is / will be "run" by the private sector, the gov just eliminates the expensive and non-contributing middlemen... saving you about 18% in cost.

Difference? They're both worse than our current system that could be fixed in a number of ways. It doesn't matter, your points are off because these bills will run private insurance out of business which would only leave government left. It's called Community Rating and Guaranteed Issue.

It isn't something where you get ill and then can say "oh I want insurance now" no, health care costs lots of money, that's why you get insurance, and there are other ways to lower health insurance costs.

You could get rid of the fact that it's not even a free market by making it so you didn't have to buy only insurance in your state, increasing competition.

Insurance bureaucrats have incentives to deny as many claims as they can get away with without shutting themselves down. Free markets work only when the incentives line up with their alleged purpose. True health coverage is not aligned with the real purpose of insurance companies. Right now their profit structure is aligned against good health coverage. The same is true for any company, big or small. They have to have structures that line up their financial incentives to support real service.

The reason it costs tons of money is the way the system works now. Research with strong experimental design has shown that regions with the highest expenditures on high-tech medicine show no better outcomes than regions with the lowest expenditures. The conclusion was that the only people profiting from the difference were the vendors of high-tech equipment and drug companies. Of course, we have to add in health providers and insurers because they siphon off some of the money stream.

Free markets work, but blindly follow financial incentives. For them to work FOR us, The incentives have to be right. Today, the financial incentives are to be an MD whether you care about making people well or not, for hospitals to over-diagnose and use the most expensive technology possible, insurers to honor as few claims as possible without destroying their markets, to suppress any cheap, effective cures and spread disinformation about them, approve expensive drugs and ignore side effects .

Actually, I'm American, born there & lived there at times. Mostly in Canada, In Can. I've had injuries & illnesses like most people, had operations several times. Urgent operations were done right away. Last week I went to walk-in clinic re: arthritis, even without appointment waited only 45 min.s b4 seeing doctor. Experienced both health care systems. Wouldn't trade the Cn'd system for the US system in a million years. You do know that nothing in the HC bill would give you the Cn'd system?
