  • It only works optimally for a few days.... for a single person...

Beyond this short period you must re-supply.

This is my favorite among six or seven stoves I've used in 40 years.....

  • I bought the Trangia Westwind kit. No problem finding alcohol while backpacking. A Trangia will last a lifetime.

  • You still have room for a bandana, Swedish Firesteel, and a MSR folding spork in stored inside that kit! Maybe even a small salt shaker.

The bandana is great for clean-up, and has a million other uses. It also reduces the slight rattling of the Brass burner and aluminum stand insde the kit.

    Good video!

  • I own this kit. I think it's great, but I wish the fry pan was just a little deeper.

  • Great stove.

  • the handle thingy is called a billy-grip or "spondonicle" ....

in a Three Stooges sketch Larry asks for a

    spondonicle ,,a mock surgical instrument

    .

  • Shame it's aluminum though.

  • when i use mine, i put more water then i actually need & while the water is heating, use the fry pan on tp to cook or heat things up, the pour some water into a cup for my tea and the remainder for a pack meal or noodles. this way you get the most out of your fuel & frying over the boiling water is a very even heat source. also, best to add just a little water to the fuel, maybe 10%, this prevents smoke and discolorization of your pots. and of coarse adds to the burn time by increasing volume.

  • Is that Swedish army surplus? How much did that cost? How much does that weigh and what size is the pot? 1 last question aluminum or stainless pot?

  • Awesome! Thanks for the reply. Do you think that its alcohol out put is good and worth it? And how long is the boil time on a pint of water?

  • @maxnapierson Yes they are

  • How well does the stove work for you? Im looking for a long lasting good working stove so please reply.

  • @MrSurviveAll I have used the same one now for 15 years and still love it !! For the price you will pay you will be happy !!

  • i cant seem to get my model lit :( can u give me some advice?

  • trangia is just another option. There may be a day when you can't get a canister for the MSR or propane or white gas. Trangia works good with 151 and 190 proof alcohol, Keep your options open.

  • Just got a spare simmer ring for mine - ebay item 260562464601 ... now i've got two and use one for 'snuffing' and one for simmering.

    VERY HANDY!!!!!

  • y dont the center catch fire instead of the edge?

  • @heli121212

It does initially, then the fuel between the walls heats up and pressurises, forcing fuel in gas form out of the jets, and heating more efficiently.

  • Now why would I retire my gas burner for this? I read a lot about how great trangias are but cannot fathom whats so great about that thing. Also if it turns over I imagine a pretty nasty result.

  • I consider Trangia and other alcohol can type stoves great for day hiking or weekend trips. For extended trips or cooking for more than two, I prefer an MSR Dragonfly and if I'm car/motorcycle camping, nothing beats a Kelly Kettle...if you have the space.

  • If your happy with your gas burner I sure wouldnt give it up. Trangia stoves are like Ford or Chevy trucks. Everyone has their favorite. I also use Jetboil and about 8 other stoves so I can see your point. I try not to limit myself to one but Trangia stoves are a good little stove. Thanks for your comment !

  • They gave you 2 thumbs down, but you have a good point man.

  • can anyone tell me where can i purchase this trangia mini 28 without having to order it on line?...

  • @ginostatus rei

  • you can use the bowl to put it out!! nice job

  • THANKS !!

  • @Billecbqrp The handiest way to put it out is to use the lid of the burner, just remember to remove the rubber gasket before doing so, cause otherwise it'll melt. The advice I got (from the swedish army) was to always let the burner burn out, because if you re-assemble the stove (with fuel in the burner) your run the risk of the burner leaking, and thus tainting the stove.

  • you get this fuel at any store?

  • @gasdorf YES any Wal Mart or mom and pop hardware store you can find by the trail. Thanks for the question.

  • I also have this stove. Works okay. However most outdoors people will ABSOLUTELY need an extra windscreen, made from cut-up and glued together coke cans or a can that is just about the right size (should have the same diameter as a CD) ... will fit in the kit.

  • Is the Fry pan NON-STICK?? That will be the deal cincher for me on this one!

    how much are they?

  • @SBPStudio NO I wish it was non stick.

  • @Billecbqrp can you use the handle on the pot and what the diameter of the fry pan

  • @Billecbqrp Yes it is non-stick

  • You can't blow it out. The only way to put it out is to smother the flame. Great question!

  • What if it's windy?

  • thanks for uploading this, i'm doing a tour soon and have found this vid very useful :)

  • Tidy, Tidy!! you could store it all a multifunction PotPal™ give it a go!

  • been using these stoves for years. very easy to use, simmers nice. so simple even i can use it.

  • WHERE DID YOU GET THE ALUMINUM POT???

  • It comes with the 28 system from Trangia.

  • Yes it does and that is what I use.

  • Amen brother !!

  • The pot on the stand looks very unstable......a slight knock and it will topple off? Also, how good is this stove in cold and windy conditions? Alcohol can be difficult to light in cold weather!

  • If I think I am going to use a bigger pot and need it to be more stable I do this. I have drilled a small hole in the botton of the stove stand and I insert a wodden golf tee in and when I set the stove on the grond I push the tee into the ground and it holds great. Never had trouble lighting it in the winter but it only gets in the teens where I camp.

  • I can't make my mind up, either get the mini-Trangia or the Trangia - 27. I'm going for a 2 week hiking trip.

  • thank you for this review of the Mini Trangia it really helped me make a Decision on what to buy I have got one now and Im very pleased with it

  • Glad I could help! Hope you have many years of fun with it as I have. Bill Conway Arkansas USA

  • Glad to hear it!!

  • where did you get that frying pan???

  • It is the lid to the Trangia package.

  • When I used these in the scouts in the UK in the '80s the pans did get a sticky black coating on them that was really nasty. We were using that purple "meths" fuel they have there. But since using the mini here in the US with denatured alcohol it burns clean. It must be the fuel that makes the difference.

  • You've got to mix the fuel with a bit of water to prevent that.

  • No not one bit. This is a very clean burning fuel. Thanks for the question.

  • Do the pots and pans get black?

  • now i want one grrr .... you tube costs me a fortune lol ... nice vid

  • Nice video. It shows the size of this set nicely. Perfect for solo backpacking - I think I'll get one!

  • Great video!
