The Miata is a favorited car because it doesn't take much to race them (check out the spec classes). You therefore spend more time on a track racing than coughing up 6 figures cash unless your a millionaire. If you want to join a club to go spec racing without raping the wallet get a Miata. If your wealthy and want exotic then the Ferrari.

@monstermiataman I know people who are doing the LS1 swap for closer to 6 grand, upping suspension isn't that much (I throw in suspension because my friend's LS3 miata couldn't handle the engine weight up front).
@gutz1988 to make it ecen funnier the miata isnt even a 20,000. $2000-8000 used plus i'd estimate like $5000 for the LS1 and parts. So assuming he bought a miata with no engine and threw and LS1 in it i'd estimate the car to be under $10,000
@3ashqGMC I eventually added a small cam, dual mandrel 2.5" with side exit, LS6 intake, and a tune, and the car made 378 and 372tq. Wound up running 11.6@120 with used 225 drag radials on 6" wide wheels. Lots of fun, but I sold it. I have an RX7 with LS1 now, but I'll be leaving it mostly stock.

Good driver + Fast car = quick laps. It's not that much of a stretch to believe I can outpace most of them, no matter what they drive.
is there any place i can learn more about this conversion? i was interested in learning what goes on with the miata's suspension/chassis during this procedure that makes it capable of taking on these speeds. i know that my 93 miata feels like it's going to take you flying at warp speed of a cliff and then flip over until it's a crunched can once you go past 70..:(
@AnathemusVideos you definitely need a new suspension. my '91 with the stock suspension can go 110 without any problems at all, and i'm still getting it replaced.

Nah... I like NA. Not to mention turbo, or nitrous, or both, would be a little insane. You can only put a 9" wide rear rim under the car, so traction is already an issue. Just the cam etc. will give me more than enough to pull that Ferrari.

you should turbo charge that ls1 and and a few mods in the engine... you probably have stock exhaust... get some wide pipes... fully moded you'll beat lambos and shit... my friend has a nissan sylvia with a fully moded zo6... nobody in this city can top him... nice job though

Nah I used a different kit, it's all the same principle. The car is almost finished having an LS6 intake, and Comp Cam installed... I should have another 70rwhp... stay posted, the ReMatch is coming :)

Nah... I like NA. Not to mention turbo, or nitrous, or both, would be a little insane. You can only put a 9" wide rear rim under the car, so traction is already an issue. Just the cam etc. will give me more than enough to pull that Ferrari.
