  • Tesla didn't have semiconductors, he had spark gaps. what do we call his tesla coil?

  • COOL EXPERIMENT, BUT CAN YOU PLEASE STOP CALLING IT A SSTC - SOLID STATE TESLA COIL, LIKE THERE EXISTED A TESLA COIL WITH MOVING PARTS AS WELL... ITS A STUPID NAME THAT APPEARED ON YOUTUBE ONLY AND IT MAKES YOU SOUND VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. THE ORIGINAL PURPOSE OF THE TERM SOLID STATE WAS TO DIVIDE THE TWO VERSIONS OF THE SAME THING, ONE WITH MOVING PARTS, ONE WITHOUT. LIKE A HARDDRIVE F.EX. B UT A TESLA COIL CANT BE MADE WITH MOVING PARTS SO OF COURSE IT IS SOLID STATE! SO STOP SAYING THAT

  • @happyfox711 You should really do research before you comment on youtube. Solid state refers to the fact that semiconductors are used, it is a very widely used term. Solid state is only semiconductors, vacuum tubes and spark gaps are not solid state.

From a cursory glance at your youtube channel, i can see you must have some interest in Nikola Tesla, but that does not translate to electronics experience... I have been into it for 4 years, i would know if i was using incorrect terms.

  • @happyfox711 actually theres a thing called a rotary spark gap ;)

  • Wow, cool effect! It looks like a fire.

  • give me schematic please ;)

  • is that purple thing dangerous?

  • @KsKePo that "purple thing" is plasma discharges and its not a good idea to touch it

  • that is wicked awesome. But sooo noisy... Seen people playing music threw these thing son here, you should give that a shot :P

  • @nelsonmachupa I have done that, check my videos, there are 2 different ones. Watch the more recent one... It is using a different more complicated circuit.

  • sounds like a dying cow - nice job and thanks for the explanation... sounded like you were speaking greek

  • this is to cool for my eye..

  • Comment removed

  • whats up ma nigga arc lol its brokegerzilla :D

  • -__-

You suck ,,!,, :D. BTW, you wanna talk about me being a Tesla coil nerd, look at your name on youtube. COD 5 fan... You are a gamer-nerd :). Not to mention, you are always playing on Xbox360 Live.

  • cool!

  • awesome work

  • Thanks! Too bad i never got a video of full 120 in. That was very fun, it melted any kind of metal. I pretty much tore the board apart for my PLL coil which doesn't work for crap right now -.- I should have it running sometime soon. I just soon go ahead and rebuild this sstc, maybe wind it a new secondary and box it up :).

  • tight lol

Make sure you shoot a video when you do.

  • would you die if you touched it with your hand?

  • Hehe, nope. I touch it all the time. It burns (the sparks are apparently a few thousand degress in the middle), but other than that it is like a very very mild static shock, and i cant even feel anything other than heat. Looks at my 'Small 811A vttc.' video, you'll see XD

  • what did you do with the ground?

  • not bad. i am in the process of building a DRSSTC at the moment. it is the mini brute by eastern voltage research

  • and if you touch it......?

  • I touched it in the video :)

  • Wow 5 stars from me. I'm having problems getting mine to run. don't know what the issue is? Do you use a GDT? (gate driver transformer).

  • Hehe remove that platter ffs - you'll get sparks trice as long with a breakout rod as in that case your coil will not have to heat up many spark channels instead of one. Btw hope it's not a glass-type platter - or if it cracks it usually shreds that well that there's a chance of finding it's parts in own ass a year after lol :D

  • Meh, FFS Ivan. :P It makes it break out in a bunch of different places. That is what i was going for. I have put a small topload on it with breaout point and sparks where longer, but they look cool like this :P.

  • Oh, and for the last time it is a metal HDD platter.

you dont listen to me on IRC do you? :P

  • Man that thing is LOUD. That CD is making it very noisy.

  • Yea, but it is not a cd, it is a hard drive platter, and it is not what is making it noisy, it is the interrupter. Otherwise it is quite, and near silent. Have some work to do when i get some new mosfets.

  • Pretty cool Matt.

You don't still have to touch your antenna to get it to fire do you? You know you could have asked me for goodies, I would have helped out too. Almost everything you needed to make the Mini was in the Junk box.

  • Hehe, thx Mike. I don't ask people directly for stuff :P. Just blew my last mosfets out day before yesterday, but i am getting a few new ones. And no, it oscillates by itself, it just needed the extra voltage to get a strong enough signal, i suppose. I still haven't used 120 input yet. Also need to find a cheap ass variac :P.

"through the lost mountains endless so far away from home"

Heh, that song reminded me of ya.

  • wow nice ten stars ;P
