God the first time I heard this song I played it twice. But I didn't wear the LP out because I wanted to cherish it for special occasions. That's why I love vinyl. I've only done that for Heart of the Congos, Tenor Saw's Fever, Heptones' Party Time, and a few other select albums.
A pleasure to see him perform live back in the early eighties on his night nurse tour in london. Also a pleasure to hear this song being plugged on national radio at the time of release (so refreshing!)
This is my go to song, sucha beautiful riddim and Gregories voice comliments it so well.I'm 30 but to me I much prefer reggae from this era for some reason, the sound's are head nodding hypnotic to me.
Gregory Isaacs departed and left all his fans LONELY TONITE in the world! Adieu my NUMBER ONE Reggae Star!!! We will endeavour to keep COOL(-ing) DOWN THE PACE for MR BROWN!!
It's not that ur gettin older.. it's pure class an original ... an the fact that he can sing not like the trash being belted out 2 day.. :-) Remember he recorded this 30 years ago an still sounds fresh
Dear Gregory, I'M SAD TO KNOW YOUR LEAVING, its NOT THE WAY i wanted you to go. There will be no SUBSTITUTE, for you ARE NUMBER ONE. Some say you are Going DOWN TOWN but i tell them to TUNE IN and watch you go up high ^_^.
YOU COOL DOWN THE PACE when you were here, so listing to your songs makes me FEEL IRIE. Whenever i feel sad i say to myself, "HUSH DARLING, he's playing to MR BROWN and a better audience in the at the venue in the sky. =( "
PICTURE THIS - A 12 years old boy left jamaica and came to his mum in England 1975 - can't hear no more reggae music. Until - one summers day in Brixton, Ferndale Court Sport Centre, Coxsone Sound System string up and played the hottest music on the air waves. FRONT DOOR. This young boy climb on to of a 15m wall the take in the vibes as the selecta rewind the tune and played it again, and again, and again according to popular demand that day. Pure Nicess. GREGORY.
Gregory Isaacs is arguably the reatest singer in Reggae history and one of the greatest writers in the world when it comes to love songs. Second to him is Dennis Brown. He does his work with so much emotions and passion, a real singer, he was only unique in voice but his look his image was different a genuine artiste. RIP Gregory. And look I am in my 20s and Gregory has been my singer since I was a teenager.
Everyone has their favourites by Mr G.I. It's impossible to have a favourite. I doubt that there has been anyone as productive and hard working as him in the history of JA music (and the hard work preceded the productive!), including Sir Bob. I was looking at my triple CD of G.I.'s "Love Songs" recently. It has 60 tracks. I thought, oh good - all my favourites in one place. But I've been on Youtube this week and found at least another 60 (Slave master, Mr Cop...)
Within recent years we've lost Joseph Hill, Yabby U, Sugar Minott, and now Gregory Isaacs. All of whom are true legends of this great artform called reggae. We must keep their music alive by passing it on to the youths who sadly will never live to see and experience artistes of this nature. Jah has truly blessed all who able to live in the era when, Dennis Brown, Joseph Hill and others of that calibre were in their prime. Rest in peace Gregory Isaacs, we give thanks for the music.
This song bring back my days in St.catherine as a young chap going into the bar and playing the juke box . This song and soon forward was my favourite. Rip Gregory. Gone too soon.
Rest in peace Gregory Isaacs....One of the greats.... He will be missed dearly.... Especially here in the San Diego reggae community... Only 2 months until Bob Marley Fest 2011..... Damn... Another hero fallen.....

Totally incredible. This reggae is the pinnacle of reggae - it is at it's golden height of fabulousness. This particular song, along with "Substitute" and "Confirm Reservation" and a pair of others from THAT album are the greatest recordings of all time. Note the great musicians who are the backing band. To good to believe. Check out the horn just bumping along in the background. The quiet spaces in the riddim are as important as the notes being sounded. The groove is beyond belief.
