  • BLAH BLAH BLAH I'M A DEAD NIGGER WHO GIVES A FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!

  • Where's Gary? the guitar man doesn't look like him.

  • Looks like a high school sock hop.

  • If Thin Lizzy didn't come up with this arrangement it's safe to say there would be no Metallica version.

  • @sirslice good point.LIZZY=THE MASTERS.MAIDEN METALICA=STUDENTS

  • hahahaha - how the fuck could you not like this? CLASS - timeless classic - saw you once Phil, City Hall Sheffield in the early 80s - sublime. You da man.

  • The woman dancing around 2:15 is my personal highlight of this video.

  • this is a damn good version... i like metallicas version better tho...

  • @djdragonhalf this is original :)

  • Love Thin lizzy always and forever..

  • A beautiful haunting rendition of a classic Irish folk song presented to us from an incredibly talented band of musicians. Thank you Thin Lizzy!

  • 8 idiots should be shot . They probably like today's crap they try to pass as music. Thin Lizzy Rules !!!!!

  • Nieco starszy utwór ale za to SUPER.

  • Strictly this is not Phil's music but it's a great interpretation - only the good die young just ask the carpenter

  • An absolute rock's best.

  • 2:28 Ashton Kutcher/Kelso from That 70's show .. and this was in the 70's

  • @91fatboy51 its not a lizzy song its an old folk song.try the pogues with the dubliners

  • @91fatboy51 Metallica did a ... less than good.... cover of Thin Lizzy's cover of this song.

  • ♥ ♥ ♥

  • I'd like to see a movie about him, especially if it was assisted by his family and contemporaries from the time so it was historically accurate and did not besmirch his reputation.. who would play him...??

  • I had a boyfriend with the exact face of Phil, and I never realized it.

  • @609Blondebomb lol I have a funny image of you searching all the bar crowds now...:D

  • LOL dig the crazy lexan Ampeg Bass. Thin Lizzy is awesome. Would love to see more about Phil.

  • Phil Lynott was BEST singer and bassist EVER!!! and no one cant ever beat him!!

  • Piękne

  • sweet, love the original and metallica cover

  • i was born with this song...thk you for uploading..

  • the cork and kerry mountains. my daddio

  • A fucking masterpiece!

  • God how I miss real f'n rock n roll. Music today is worth less than the paper these guys wiped with.

  • This version has a lot more passion than the metallica version, which is just louder and faster

  • Good stuff. Check the version from the Gary Moore tribute to Phil...bittersweet.

  • Only heard this with Metallica until today.

  • For those of you who like this, check out vagabonds of the western world, you will love it. Personally I think it tops anthing they did later on. Their 1st album from 1971(called 'thin lizzy') isn't bad either.

  • I'm sorry, but Metallica's version is better, this might be the original, but it lacks the great energy of tallica's cover...

  • @Videostar1another1fa I'm not going to criticize you for preferring one over the other, but considering that Metallica is a thrash metal band, I'm sure they're going to have more energy than a 70's rock band. I personally think this version has more emotion, which comes before anything else in music, to me.

But, to each his own, right?

  • @Videostar1another1fa DUDE its a traditional irish song. the first world know version (and the best) is by the dubliners.

  • @900schutter Yeah,I know that it's a traditional Irish song, but Metallica covered this version of the song, not the original.

  • gusto

  • This is the version with the "radio friendly" truncated guitar solo, edited as if it was chopped off with an axe. I always hated that. Now I appreciate that lots of people disliked long "pretentious" guitar solos, but this *was* still the days of the guiter god, and IMHO the original full version is that one which should be preserved.

  • @MrSwanley Absolutely man! I was jamming along to it and was really bummed that they edited the second solo out, definetley an integral part of the song and not guitar wankery.

  • the 'housewife' dance...

  • Es un feeling exacto el que transmiten con su música, dificilmente "COVEREABLE", ya que para hacerlo necesitarias un feeling y una gran escena, gracias por el legado THIN LIZZY ! :D

  • There's some spasticated dancing in this like hahaha, omg

  • @nowitsabadtime

    I agree with you

  • Such humble beginnings. Phil and the boys would become a hard rock powerhouse in the coming years.

  • 5 dislikes? Who are you 5 people? This is insanely cool and I love the idea of a movie based on Phil...I want to know more about this Irish lad!

  • @NekedRooster The BBC did a documentary about him not so long ago. Look it up.

  • @NekedRooster Yeah the 5 people were only allowed the internet during medication break. Now theve got new inmates.! So brilliant is this group that their timeless.

  • Respect....RIP

  • Absolutely love your Music Phil , Rock the angels

  • @nowitsabadtime:

    That's a freakin' awesome idea!!

  • 5 people had their money stolen in the Cork and Kerry mountains.

  • Wow 1973 and is revived by Metallica by 90s... that was awesome

  • brilliant song thanks fore putting this on brilliant

  • Here you have this group that was AWESOME. Phil is gone....Cozy Powell is gone...Gary Moore is gone...Eric Bell is still here...and he is the only one that can play this song with the riff EVER! My apologies to Metallica...They made this song...

  • @kd8lcx metallica?dubliners mate

  • @yntedehaan It's actually an old Irish traditional song.

  • Brilliant song, brilliant band. Wish was my era, But it's so embarrasing to see our mums and grans generation dancing like that , hahaha.

  • а я то думал Металлика их сделала, на самом деле оригинал далеко не ху ёв....

  • great song

  • Great dance girls how as life panned out for you

  • A strat? really??

  • PHIL has some sexy eyes...

  • All anybody needs to know about this song is it's a fuckin great tune whether sung by the Dubliners, Lizzy, Metallica or a bunch of pissed blokes in any pub where the Irish are to be found! But fuckin hell, Phil with an Ampeg bass ...

  • This effort will never better Luke Kelly singing this song. This is just a pale immitation, cold mutton.

  • 40 years ago, damn. and still d most epic cover of WIY ever.

  • Guy in the star jumper at 2:30 everyday he's shuffling!

  • @craigyp06 die

  • Guy in the star jumper at 2:30 everyday he's shuffling!

  • Totally eclipse's the original! Just true and pure, folk rock delivered to the masses.

  • this cover is true disgrace to the dubliners

  • para los rokeros viejos y para los nuevos también....

  • phil, whisky in a jar! xxxxxxx

  • 5 personas tienen diabetes >.<

  • i was gonna like this video but then i noticed the "666 likes" :D

  • @cantongo34 Did you know that 666 is not the number? It is actually 636, im not makin this up 636 636 636

  • @MonkeyHunch well.... actually some say it's 616. beacuse when papyrus 115 was discovered (it contains the earliest known version of the book of revelation) it said 616

  • @wolfmother9311 Well that just makes it more confusing? Which one do i dial ?

  • More people attempt or commit suicide on Dec. 25 than any other day. What a shame we lost him. Got to see him in the late seventies. Chicago!!!!!!!!!! PS: Live!!!

  • 5 people dont like whiskey.....

  • my god phil was such a stud!

  • just PERFECT

  • i am 14, and when i was 4 my dad and I was listening to this song..

    old good times..

  • Phil Lynott - Born this day 20 August 1949. RIP

  • Phil was a bad-ass m.f. I think somebody should make a movie about him.

  • @nowitsabadtime thats a great fuckin idea man! but who could play the part?

  • @nowitsabadtime SO AGREE!!!!

  • @nowitsabadtime No donbt man. He fuckin oozed cool!!

  • @clitoricam cooler than the ice caps he was bud never be another

  • Oh for chrumbs sake stop banging on about metallica. They made their name in another genre altogether. It has nothing to do with Irish trad music. If WITJ weren't such a great tune I'd be looking at fairy versions of The Tain

  • if thin lizzy hadn't have covered this metallica wouldn't have and i bet metallica don't even know it's an old irish folk song.

  • lietuvai patinka..goods songs...

  • 2.30 the blokes t shirt hahaha

  • Strange to see this classic song in black and white, just as I saw on 'Top of The Pops' all those years ago on a Radio Rentals Baird tv, it was rubbish (the tv that is). Knew a very entertain Irish chap who knew Mr Phil Lynott's mother quite well, odd that she looks like that actress who played the mother in 'My Left Foot'. Ah, the memories!

  • all time classic.

  • muito bom......

  • dungarees

  • Why's the drummer wearing a barbeque grilling apron? Or is he a blacksmith in his spare time, maybe?

    Just kidding. Great song.

'THE' version, as far as my ears are concerned.

  • Can you feel it

  • Look at that hair!!

  • fucking beautiful!!

Forever remember Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott

  • great memoriesssssssssssss

  • Great vocalist.

  • @clarkewi By my opinion the best rock singer ever. To many bands have rock screamers instead.

  • the tamborine chick has some super perky tits.

  • @BeyondNeptune BET they aint so perky these days

  • i like the little look he gives the camera at 0:40

  • 2:28 Rolf...

  • Just noticed that my cousin looks exactly like white version of Phil Lynott. Confusing.

Anyway, too bad this world has needed to cope without the legend for good 25 years now - RIP Phil.

  • 1973? Why is this b&w?

  • @PEEBLIES This would have originally been in colour. Most early colour recordings of TOTP (and other shows, most notably Doctor Who) were wiped as video tape was very expensive at the time. However, the BBC usually took black and white film (Telecording or Kinescope recording) to sell to other countries that didn't have colour TV or compatable video tape equipment. Sad really, but black and white film is better than nothing I suppose.

  • i will never understand why this man killed himself through drugs he had it all.

  • Cool is Phil Lynott.

  • CLASSIC!!!!

  • this song is a true classic that im sure alot of people love.i hate todays music and im only 13. in my experience i've heard kids that like todays music say that songs such as this and other great songs by The Rolling Stones,Nirvana and The Beatles are "hippy" songs.Ok maybe these band did drugs but it dosent mean the are hippys.

  • @DownTownStalker i hate it all 2 and im 12. it even says it my name (hailknopfler2 Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits.) nobody today even know what music is. gay rappers can just dream 2 be as good as the rolling stones, thin lizzy, the beatles etc. people make fun of me for listening 2 these rock legends. dizzy rascal in 2 years time wont even be remembered where as phil lynott will never be forgotten. RIP

  • @hailknopfler2 If you're 12 you should try to be more open-minded about new music cause I mean, who knows what new kinds of music will rise between today and when you turn say 22.

  • @hailknopfler2 be more open minded rap DOES take talent and you want to talk talent listen to metal technically the rolling stones couldnt dream of playing something as technical i wish people were open minded about music and not so opinionated because no one person will ever be right because its all based on personal preference

  • There's whiskey in the GYRO lolololol

  • Phil was such a Super Badd Bassist

  • I've never seen Phil playing a Dan Armstrong lucite - - Very badass!

  • R.I.P Mr. Gary Moore may the rocks gods welcome you to the final gig in the sky!!

  • Ačiū Gary jūsų aistra muzikai ketina prisiminti amžinai !

  • @mjwamps07 True! also when they went to the T.O.T.P studio in the 70s maybe after too?,i remember hearing that 'they were told how to dance'' which was the PC of the day!

  • @Raptor081 you supid little cunt!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Raptor081 Dancing...? o.0 - I don't what that is, but it surely isn't dancing. :p

  • Man i missed Phill. Love his voice.

  • That's when it all made sense. Real music, real class and style. The reason God created a stage. got my ticket for January. Eternally out here!!!

  • It's probably been said but the BBC couldn't spell Whiskey!!! "wiskey" - maybe whoever wrote it had drunk some and too much!

  • Metallica has a version of this? Really? Never heard it...and can honestly say don't care to.
