  • I feel like I'm the only one who finds it ironic that Habermas, while being the primary proponent of a communicative theory of democracy and transcendence of semantics, has a borderline speech impediment and is an incredibly dense writer/speaker. In all seriousness, I wish he were able to walk the walk rather than spending his career talking about philosophical hypotheticals. Going along with that, people seem to cite his work more than engaging it in a horizontal/conversational way

  • Hey guys, i need help with apaper (i´m a bit desperate). I´m tryng to critic Ulrich beck´s cosmopolitans theory, based primarly on Zigmunts Bauman´s, Richard Sennet´s, and Hanna Arendt´s arguments. Please help!

Ps: I was thinking of working with the notion of public spaces.

  • Truly one of the greatest living philosophers. Hail Habermas!

  • thanks for the video. i used his philosophy of communicative action in making my thesis which turned out to be the best thesis under our department. im looking forward to collecting more of his speeches, lectures, talks, etc. so long as they're in english. : ) tnx again.

  • Huge man

  • Habermas had a cleft palate. He had surgery when he was very young, but it is still very apparent in his speach. Many times over, he has said he prefers the written word to the spoken word. However, he is considered one of the most knowledgable sociologists ever to live. His writing "The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere" is one of the greatest critiques of public and private cuture ever. His wealth of knowledge is astounding.

  • i'm not sure if a cosmopolitan democracy would work, but if it is going to be tried then the most powerful country in the world has to lead the way. other countries, like Britain, can't be blamed for acting in there self interest whilst the current system stands.

  • i owe you one for uploading this. Im halfway through my honours in IR and my thesis is going to be on cosmopolitan democracy. Habermas inspired theory seems to be the way out of the quagmire that is universality and eurocentricism. Read Ken Booth, Reflections of a fallen realist (1994). I really think i would have had to either quit IR or renounce my idealism if it wasnt for habermas and the academic space is work opened up

  • @dogboxdogs then we should be thankful for him. habermas is a philosopher definitively employed by idealism that the world can look up to.

  • @dogboxdogs newsflash: Habermas is a universalist

  • can he play footy?

  • when this lecture took place and was it under a specific lecture series or a coference with a specific title? You should add this information in the info section of the clip.

  • Thank you for uploading this. It's an honour just to see a video of one of the great philosophers of our time.

  • Thanks for uploading this video. Now anybody in the world can can get a chance to hear the lecture of one of most huge philosopher in the world.

  • funny voice

  • I think he has a cleft palate that unfortunately makes his speech giving a challenge for both audience and speechgiver.Today a surgical procedure quickly corrects the problem.

  • Jürgen Habermas is a big. Although is very complicated your analysis are so much interesting. I read "Science and Technology like a Ideology", big analysis about new society.

  • This is my academic life's work. Jurgen Habermas, a major influence on my research, is one of the most important people for this part of IR theory.
