Yes steel coils are very heavy. Each coil appears to be around the 10 ton and with 5 to a car do the sums multiply it by the number of cars and that is a really impressive haul. Hence the abundance of power required .
@CMRSclub: I caught a similar train in Stockton in 2008. It's the last train in my video, "Trains in Stockton, California". Hopefully, you'll catch on of them on the Stockton Sub
I was told that CSX's ES44DCs were recently downgraded to ES40DCs & that new CSX paint scheme is also IDed as YN3 CSXT paint scheme! I also never expected to see CSX power on a BNSF lash up!
@bitterman112 downgrading them to 4000 hp increases the lifespan of the loco between rebuilds (less wear and tear for running in notch 8 all the time). I believe this is why NS bought the dash 9's and new gevos with 4k already set.
@up199519981982198319: I think "Dark Future" is a sarcastic railfan nickname, since it's their newest paint scheme, yet their business propects are unknown...? Just guessing.
steel coils weigh around 25 to 30 tons or even heavier depends on thickness and length of course

that's the weirdest and coolest catch i've ever seen for B.N.S.F. , that's a lot of steel wonder what it's for ?

@yurysausage: I heard the train might have headed to Pittsburg, CA, and they make large pipes (for oil & gas) there.

Awesome shoot of H1 and H2 BNSF power, CSX, NS, and a Warbonnet! It sounds like the Warbonnet unit has overactive spitter valve!
