Kirat are the native of the himalayas and they are Mongoloid race which means they are like chinese, korean, Vietnamese Asian people. Kiratas fought in the Mahabhrata against Krishna and Pandavas army.
The name Nepal was later derived from Kirati word "Nepala". And yes Kiratdesh(now nepal) was never part of Bharatvarsha(now india).
