my mom graduated highschool in '51 when she was listening to only b goodman and other white pop music. she never even heard the great black blues musicians from the 50's. What a shame!
Of all the famous Big Band leaders Benny Goodman is the one who more than anyone else broke the race barrier. Charlie Christian, Lionel Hampton, Freddy Green, Cootie Williams, Teddy Wilson both live and in the studio. If they were the best they played with Benny he heard music not color. Today his performances are still held as a standard of excellence, professionalism and creativity in music and a landmark in civil rights.
I UNDERSTAND WHY BENNY GOODMAN WAS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR THIS SONG , THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE LEARNED NOTHING ABOUT THE RACIST PAST OF MUSIC ESPECIALLY DURING WALTER AND BENNY GOODMAN'S DAYS. WALTER I AM SURE ROLLED OVER IN HIS GRAVE IF HE EVER KNEW SAW THIS
In response to bixntram, theres very little footage of Little Walter about plus the images in this video to me evoke the period of music back then as a whole not just an emphasis on Walter.
dont care for the video but my god what a great song. have a couple of little walter records. i never herd this tune before you posted this video. i thank u for that. i love Jacobs voice just as much as the harp playing. He had this tone that is just so real and mornful.Nothing short of brilliant. Once again thanks
So what the hell do these video clips have to do with Little Walter?? Benny Goodman with Gene Krupa and the Savoy Ballroom dancers? Baffling why these clips were used, as they have absolutely nothing to do with Little Walter. That said...dig the baritone sax riff behind Walter's vocal. Great stuff!
@bixntram There was actually also a litle bit of footage from Duke Ellington's orchestra. Of course, that is equally irrelevant to Little Walter, but they still deserve mentioning in their own right. Beyond that, your right about the sax, SWEET! Now listen to it again, focusing on the brushed drum rhythm, very cool. Obviously since we're talking about Little Walter, the harp and vocals go without mentioning, but I'll mention them anyway. NICE!!! Piano adds some nice color, too.
@theKockunge K, it would have been okay if it had been JUST people dancing, but what we see here is the Benny Goodman band playing something totally different from the Little Walter track. Weird. So, just make another vid. You could use Little Walter album covers, photos, footage of Chicago, dancers, whatever. Anything but musicians playing something totally different from the sound track. Best of luck with it.
@sergioelwalrus I LOVE your video! Totally agree with what you've said and obviously those complaining don't get it - I see that the clips represent what you wanted to see while listening to the song and I think the editing and choices are great fun and creative, the sort of dancing and moves I would choose myself - you're not so literal as the other millions. My only suggestion is higher quality images but I know that can be tricky - excellent vid - cracking tune :)))
Cool song and great pics. I think I've seen some of them before, especially the wild dancing (...zepoppin' or what was it?) and that drummer, I can't think of his name, I know him too. All together, great vid.

I'm glad you don't like the video. That's good.
Maybe you're right, I just could have done a video using album covers, photos... just like the thousands videos done that way.
Maybe it's not the proper footage.
Maybe it would be a better world without the web.
Maybe people should play Lps instead of surfing the tube.
Maybe this should be just for fun and joy.
Thanks for the comments anyway.
It's always great getting noticed about dislikes just to make it better next time.
Cheers!!!

@bixntram I dig the baritone horn in every song I've ever heard that has one! Adds so much to the mix.

@bixntram I love youtube. Especially when someone like you posts exactly what I was thinking. Krupa? WTF? AND The bari sax is soooo cool in this.
