i don't think im sending my kids to public (or private) school, its so much nicer to think that my kids will learn from me, not society. i don't trust schools as much now.
Adding straw to concrete is an age-old building technique, sometimes called "mortar", sometimes called "adobe" and just plain old cement. I add straw, gravel, crushed rock, anything as filler to extend the cement.
@FumblingGardener Thank you for your concern. The young lady who was learning to read in this video 2 1/2 years ago is now reading at a high school level. We find that the best course is to be natural, pay close attention to each child's developmental cues and provide encouragement, materials and time. A child's education will unfold beautifully on it own timetable that way. Glad you like the farming ideas. Leslie
@pocketsofthefuture I agree with you 100%. That is the most irritating thing about modern education. Each child learns at a different rate. I really enjoyed your video series, thank you for sharing it.
Hens no longer laying eggs are often doomed to the stew pot. I would be announcing it every time I layed an egg too. "Look at me, I'm useful, don't kill me! :) Chickens don't exist in the natural word, they are a man-made animal just like all of our farm animals and food plants.
Yeah, it's normal.. they do it to call attention to themselves and away from the eggs to give them a better chance of survival. they also often make a low growling sound like when you first walk up to the coop and they all stoop low to hide or camoflage themselves. and that's a warning to all the other chickens. it'll be followed by a "release/all clear" clucking.

After a hen lays an egg, she shows "broody" behaviour that means she is ready to sit on a nest.
