Freestyle is not well defined, but for sure it is a fusion of 80s pop, r&b, and italo disco. Mainly produced by hispanics and was popular in Miami. Sometimes the accent of the singer gives it away. It is tough to tell sometimes. For instance, I thought that Larabelle - I can't stop (Italo) was freestyle for the longest time becaused it sounded very hispanic and had so much pop in it. Freestyle was borrowing much of Italo and perhaps Italo was borrowing much of freestyle.

Shana Petrone (b.1972) is from suburban Chicago, USA. The sound was early-Frankie Knuckles-style, Chicago Warehouse-dance-techno, late 1980's. She MUST have been influenced by the Chicago style. I can go with "Freestyle" definition, but I think that is too general for the DJ's who spun for Chicago, NY, Detroit, etc., clubs then. She later went USA "country" music which is sad by any definition. She was great in this genre and era! I hope the best for her.

@turbografx Italo disco has very little to do with Italy. It's a style of music that began in the early 80's. This actually sounds VERY Italodisco, like it or not. Freestyle was a spin off, but again this has a classic italodisco sound. The origin of the artist should not determine the style of music, fashion, etc...

This video is NOT italo disco, while it does feature some vague elements of italo, this song is very much in the vein of Latin Freestyle. It was produced in Miami by Steve Gordon and was intended for the Latino Freestyle market at the time. This was the only album Shana released in this genre as she wanted to move away from dance music to pursue her Country music dream.
