wikipedia and encyclopedias are not good resources

I only used wikipedia for certain characters that I couldn't find elsewhere. For most of the characters in my videos, I used an oxford encyclopedia of world mythology, for example. I'm curious, if an encyclopedia isn't a good resource, then what is? And it's not like I'm talking about science where peer reviewed journals would be key. It's mythology, isn't it?
