Oh, I would like to make reference too, that actually the greatest voices in the world are not the same as they were in her highest point, look at whitney houston (I love her too) or Aretha Franklin, They're still wonderful singers but they don't do it like before...So instead of criticising mariah's voice I think that all of we should remember that she's a mark of the 90's and she's one of the voices of the centhury.
I'm also a big fan of mariah, and I think that all the haters and those who say that she can't sing anymore, should be quiet, 'cause the fact that her voice isn't the same anymore is relative, it's true that actually her voice is not powerful as before, but in E=mc2 she hitted her highest note in "I wish you well" and her range is improving. And I think it's perfectly natural if she has not a powerful voice like before, she sings for a lot of time and she's getting older (but always pretty).
I love Mariahs Lower Register and Higher Register...but Mariah isnt that good in Middle range..coz she always use the lower and higher... E=MC2 is using middle range voice..so thats why people doesnt appritiate her...
through the rain in this video was performed completely live!!! it's just that it's the only performance she sang the highest part live that made her diaphram completely exhausted... when she sang "I hold TIGHTER" part... then she let the backup singers continue... It's a rare performance and she gave all power and passion...
Now, she does hope her voice would come back... as if it's her golden age again... sadly, it wont be as good then...

2003-4 she didn't do as much singing as before, so her voice was a lot better. Those Christmas performances she did in 2004 were pretty much as good as in 1994. Her voice was also really good in 2005, and in 1995 her voice only gained, it didn't lose a thing.

they record the "live" lip sync and work on the vocals before hand to enhance it before the show/concert... they are not the dumb to let the cd play(well depends on the show/concert)
Hate to tell you but most of these "live" clips are lip synched. The duet with Brian McKnight is most definitely lipped. Don't get me wrong. I love Mariah but she hasn't performed well live since 1995. Pre '95 it was all live and all Mariah. Since then if it has sounded really good, it's most likely NOT live.

Yea the Rainbow CD was the (pre-breakdown) turning point. Although that was the first CD of hers that I didn't like 90% of the songs. I think she can still sing low (it is easier than high, right?), but for some reason she just doesn't choose to do it. "Never too far" - one of the standouts on Glitter.
and also the end of Love Will Lead The Way...that last note is incredible. Rainbow was NOT a good CD...that's the only one i really don't like...i NEVER listen to it.

Mariah Carey's vocal prime:
1990-1994 her voice was full rich, over running and over melismas.
1995 her voice lost a lot of that richness and fullness but her voice was still powerful
1996-2002 her voice become airier, thinner and very whiny
2003-2004 her voice was horrible
2005-2008 Her studio voice sounds decent due to pro tools, but the few times she sings live is a complete mess.

Of course her voice has changed, she's 38 now; she kept singing since 18 years amazing high notes, so of course her voice may have changed. But please do not say she can't sing, seriously!!!! so if Mariah carey can't sing so can't those other "singers" out there (cassie, jlo, c milian, aguilera, beyonce)
Just take a look at Leona Lewis it hasn't been a year she is in the industry and rumor has it she may lose her voice.

they record the "live" lip sync and work on the vocals before hand to enhance it before the show/concert... they are not the dumb to let the cd play(well depends on the show/concert)

Hate to tell you but most of these "live" clips are lip synched. The duet with Brian McKnight is most definitely lipped. Don't get me wrong. I love Mariah but she hasn't performed well live since 1995. Pre '95 it was all live and all Mariah. Since then if it has sounded really good, it's most likely NOT live.

Yeah she does sound good live(well she used to) especially in these clips in this video, considering she lipped alot of the "big notes". She may be fooling you guys on here but not me. I still love her though!

I love every level og her voice, the whispery and clear falsetto, the low, mid, and upper register, and ofcourse the ultra high notes. Mariah will always be the best!

this video is great, but it proves whatever skill she had back then, she doesnt hold anymore. which is why the most recent video was of her singing Through the Rain, after that there are no great performances. it's extremely sad because she was incredible back in the day

Ty2phine, I like the way you think. Fly Like a Bird is my fav. song on her last CD. I have every one of her CDs (even the Xmas one and Glitter lol). Before, I would buy her stuff on the first day without hearing it. But now I have to hear it first.

That Chick is ok, Migrate is Ok, Touch my Body is ok, or sexy. But where is the single...which touches the soul...where we hear the VOICE, not the whisper but the Chest Voice...Seems like after the Rainbow CD, something changed, and the voice wasn't the same....Even though i like her voice on NEVER TO FAR.

Yea the Rainbow CD was the (pre-breakdown) turning point. Although that was the first CD of hers that I didn't like 90% of the songs. I think she can still sing low (it is easier than high, right?), but for some reason she just doesn't choose to do it. "Never too far" - one of the standouts on Glitter.

and also the end of Love Will Lead The Way...that last note is incredible. Rainbow was NOT a good CD...that's the only one i really don't like...i NEVER listen to it.

Umm, you must not know much about music. Obviously Rainbow wasn't her most successful, but it had some songs that you HAVE to give recognition to, no matter who the fuck you think you are;

Actually mimi stated that even she goes that low shes actually hitting a low falsetto.. Those notes are in her range but shes only singing a D 2 Octaves below a middle C.. So technically shes singing a really low males note.. Because its like a really low tenor note.. So get MARIAH!!!!! lol
