Bohemian Rhapsody Bassoon Quartet

Ok... mabye not in a full orchestra but the last time I saw a full one was in the 5th grade and they had a bassoonist do a very lovely song. In my school the basson sits right up front and can be at times very heasy to hear. I dont know if its just me but I have a trained ear to listen for the sound of the bassoon

I'd put more feeling on your interpretation.It seems like if you've never heard the original song and are just reading the score.For example:In the staccatos at the end of the phrases from 0:35("...because I'm easy cOme, easy gO, little hIgh, little lOw"), it's not exactly the way the voice articulates in the song.I know that the technique in the bassoon is different but I think you know what I mean...You did a good version,but PLEASE don't forget the SPIRIT of the song (and of MUSIC) Good luck!

@rileyrod Awesome! You'll love playing the bassoon. It takes a little time to get used to where the pitch typically "lives" on your instrument. Listen carefully to those around you (like you would in any other section), and play with TONS of air. Over time, you'll get used to the amount you have to bite the reed to be in tune, too. If you are taking private lessons, your teacher can make some adjustments to your reed if there are problems, too.

I went to a open-mic get-together. There were about 25 people there, all with guitars. When I took my flute out, some people gowned and scowled. I played some 70s pop. When I was finished, I received a standing ovation and a few hoots, and even a "that rocks". That was far more then anybody else got. There is more to music then guitars. If people would expand a bit, they would find other instrument with very different sounds. Like thomasoring discovered.

i dont play the bassoon, and i dont want to (just because im not that great at instruments that require a good lung capacity. tried clarinet.... wasnt pretty) but i must admit. bassoons sound beautiful. the bassoon is my favorite instrument that i do not play. they have such presence i guess if that makes sense and when you hear it like.... you feel it. yeah ok im a music junkie but still. bassoons blow my mind.

If you brought out a CD, with this stuff well-recorded (quality here hurts a bit) I'd so buy it. This version of Bohemian Rhapsody is majestic.

The “Do you think you can stop me and spit in my eye?” but needs more sharp, cutting energy, though. It sounds calm here.

The beginning melody, I don't know. I liked it and what not, but i think the bassoon's voice would sound better another octave higher. It just wasn't super attractive in that register. maybe it was the room.

@Kuronii01 I disagree, i am a bassoonist myself, and when i listen to a great bassoonist in an orchestra i can always pick it out over the other low winds. Maybe its just my ear, but youre right, it shouldnt be too obtrusive.

Have you guys noticed that the bassoon is always in the front of the orcestra? Its because it not only the pretiest instrument but it has the prettiest voice and its so unique that that you can always hear it over all the other instruments =)

@hannah12144 It's actually quite hard to hear a bassoon in a full orchestra. The main point of it is to provide lower support, and (quite infrequently) to provide main melody support. By itself, if really is beautiful, but most of the time, you shouldn't be able to hear the bassoon in a full orchestra.

I've gotten up to a high C before. My highest is 3 octaves above the lowest C, or 2 octaves above mid-C. I hope that description is sufficient. Relative to C6, what would my high C be? C5? C4?

@whooooooooosh Ever hear a euphonium? And I mean AN ACTUAL euphonium. Not the weird half-baritone half-euphonium things. I think they're tied with bassoon for best sound. Granted, it's also tied with the bassoon for worst sound achievable, so it's really in the player more than the instrument.
