Black Friday is an accounting term. Some retailers depend on the four weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas to bring their 'books' out of the red (losing money) and into the black (turning a profit for the fiscal year). You're welcome. Don't applaud, just throw money.
ITS CALLED black friday, because everything is cheap, and like myself, black people like sales, therefore, black friday, they need all the holidays they can get, white people have columbus day, and all those. (Joking)
in accounting the profit charts are red when there is no profit (aka: negative) & black when the number is positive or there is profit. Black friday is usually when companies charts turn from negative to positive or red ink to black ink. Hence black Friday after thanksgiving. Ex: If you look at the entire year and subtract all expenses, every sale after b-friday is profit whereas before, in the year, was just catching up from production expenses (aka: still in the negative/red).
It's sunday the 13th here in Brussels (Belgium), so i wish you a happy birthday, lots of fun, nice presents (amphibious shoes maybe?) and keep the vids comming!!
My little boy is exactly the same, I put him on my R1 just to see how he liked it, now every time I go in the garage he's pointing at the bike shouting ride, ride. ride.....
its called Black Friday because it is a good example of how disgusting and soulless western society is. People get trampled to death when the store doors open because they literally fight eachother to save money on some crap they will get bored of in a week anyway or never use.
Its called Black Friday because when a business isn't making enough money to cover expenses, they are considered"in the red". But when a company makes more money than it spends it is considered" in the black", and Black Friday is a day where almost all company's make back the money they spent and so that day they are " in the black" hence, black friday.
April the 1st is also supposedly unlucky to some and a guy I know was very unlucky all his life, the dumbest thing he did was touch live electricity cables with out turning electricity off first and his marriage only lasted 6 months, how unlucky is that? I shouldn't laugh but I will, lol
black friday is a accounting term it means that money/profit is getting better going up and so if something is black it means good and red means bad :) cheer
Ok, the ghost hotel info not on this post, damn... but still good to see the vid... Cute kid Ba-ba... Also, looking at the info on the side: If anyone thinks that being in Asia makes all electronics cheaper, they are very wrong. PS3, Wii, LCD or LED tv's? Nope, I did a shopping comparison for Samsung tv's and ps3's, and it's cheaper at Best Buy in Canada. Kinda irritating really....
Whomever mentioned Black Friday relating to retailers' profit is correct. Most retailers typically operate with their account book's bottom line written in red (indicating loss) for 11 months out of the yeah. Day after Thanksgiving marks the point in the year that most retailers begin to actually make a profit, due to being the biggest shopping day of the year, and their bottom line gets written in black (profit). Ergo, Black Friday.
it's called black friday because when your in the black you are having a profit in sales when you are in the red you are losing money. This day "black friday" is when the retail giants are making a ton of cash. Most sales associates call black friday Blitz or at least wal-mart associates do
you are partly right about friday the 13. i kno some instances cause i talked about it with school (dont ask) but um...13 is just unlucky idk y its a friday. if 13 ppl eat at a table one of them will die. the last supper with jesus was 13 people. and then jesus died. ughh wierd 13 shit, there is more. just look em up
I always thought it was called "Black Friday" because it was a day sales associates feared. At least that's what I learned from working retail for 6 years.
And the economy might be bouncing back around the world but I don't think America's going to be bouncing back anytime soon...
"The earliest uses of "Black Friday" to mean the day after Thanksgiving come from or reference Philadelphia and refer to the heavy traffic on that day."
Which one would you all rather be: 1. earth a tatty bush at the bottom of heavens garden, in need of a trim. 2. earth a cancer on heavens shore scalped out. 3. earth a small black Jackal so sick it needs to be shot, and I have got the gun and I am loading the bullet.. your answers please we are in count up here at the top, all at the bottom thinking they are boss of the top, how stupid is that, the bottom wanting to be boss of the top, outrageous, scandalous, insult, mortified, it mentality.
naaa, it is a religious thing for friday the 13th, its to do with the knights templar from 12th century or something like that, its when they were all killed off by the religious nut jobs for being too pro, and now it lingers and pops up now and again! ^^
Here in Iceland... there are more like "discount kills". You road rage someone here and you get around 3 years. The justice system here is fucking broken.
wow really? I hate to be a jackass but what are they teaching in schools now a days? Black Friday was when the Stock Market crashed in 1929 I'm not sure on when exactly they started using it as a "sale" day but I do know the reason for it is so that it would never happen again of course their are other dates that come into play Black Monday 1987 and the original Black Friday was 1869 when gold speculators caused the market to collapse also known as Black Tuesday
I highly doubt that Friday December, 13 is mentioned anywhere in the Bible. The Bible's authors all lived by the Hebrew calender; for them, there was no December.
the reason it's called "black friday" is because historically, it is the day that retailers get back into the "black" on their ledgers - it was never called "green" friday btw to the other poster...
i was told Friday the thirteeth was unlucky because, (biblical) night before crusification there was a feast and to have jesus was host, and there were only supposed to be twelve people coming but one more came he was the thirteenth and he was evil, or something like that, i dunno.
it was called green friday up until 2003 i believe, but i dont remember why they changed it. it was on the news when they announced the new name but i didnt care enough to pay attention.
Incidents over the last few years have brought on a new meaning tho, The Day of the Discounted Deaths. The sales offered cause floods of people to arrive and wait outside once the doors unlock then move as a force and become a mass of Boots and Elbows killing anyone who can't keep up within the mass. This is happening because retailers offer sales like a 50": plasma TV for $300 but only have 5 when they need at least 500. Some states have passed Forced rain-check laws that MUST be honored.
i read a whole book on the 13 unlucky bit. it went over many theories as to how it began (one was 13 people at the table at the Last Supper) , but the widespread superstition came from The Thirteen Club, founded in the 1880's. i can't remember much after that but this club had a fairly large influence on society and i guess got them scared of 13
You don't automatically turn a profit, but traditionally that's where the phrase comes from. Loaded with turkey and barely awake, American Zombies (like myself), wander shopping malls putting our credit cards into the hands of equally asleep cashier's hands for crap we don't need. We spend so much money on that one day that it supposedly brings retailers "into the black" and the rest of the year is gravy.
lol, this has nothing to do w/ this video.. but i was just looking at your really old videos, and i saw the one where u buy some energy drink and out of nowhere you just yell, "FIRE IN THE HOLE..!!" haha..
The term "Black Friday" originated in Philadelphia in reference to the heavy traffic on that day. More recently, merchants and the media have used it instead to refer to the beginning of the period in which retailers go from being in the red (i.e., posting a loss on the books) to being in the black (i.e., turning a profit).
Just a little tip for you, M13. Pretty much any time you end a video with your son, I cannot help but give it 5 stars. Seriously. So it's better if you don't remind us to rate until toward the end, so that when we rate, we will have just seen (or be seeing at the time) your son. It's difficult to be anything less than completely generous when seeing him.
Yeah, that's why it's called Black Friday. Retailers are in the red most of the year, but because the Friday after Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year, that takes them from the "red" and puts them in the "black" as far as profits go.
From what i understand, Black Friday is called that due to many businesses try to recoup their costs in sales. They hope to be in the "Black" rather then in the "Red", but that is what I was informed from my Econ teacher in High School. For all I know he could have been full of chit, BTW ★★★★★
Black Friday means is the time where there yearly profits/loss comes out of red aka negative into black aka positive. So its the time of year when thy start making money and not short. Its a make or break for all the stores.
Black Friday as a term has been used in multiple contexts, going back to the nineteenth century, where it was associated with a financial crisis in 1869. Earliest uses of "Black Friday" to mean the day after Thanksgiving come from or reference Philadelphia and refer to the heavy traffic on that day. The earliest known reference to "Black Friday" (in this sense), found by Bonnie Taylor-Blake of the American Dialect Society, refers to Black Friday 1965 and makes the Philadelphia origin explicit.
MORDETH =) friday the 13th has nothing to do with the bible, it comes from the 14th century when the pope and king of france had the knights Templar killed. the date was the first friday 13th
haha damn, I'm three days after your birthday man xD I got my user name the same way, kind of... since Sagittarius is the ninth zodiac, I put nine after 'rek' which is the last part of my last name backwards

Ugh, on November 23rd of 2009, my best friends brother passed away. He was only 19, he was in a car accident and didn't have his seat belt on. Rest in peace Dakota Kelly Alder.
As much as I can relate to your feeling of loss, what the hell was the point in posting this in the comments section on a completely unrelated video? Setup a facebook page or something, no one here knows your best friends brother nor do most probably care. My condolences.
by some freak of nature i was born on my own birthday does that mean i get a free kill? oh and the same day as my borthers to, does that mean i get two free kills?
I always thought it was called black friday because it was the the day after the American Thanksgiving. I think they got the Black from all of the bloody stools the people use to get from over eating their Thanksgiving dinner. Usually Friday in the morning the toilets in America were fill with black poop, from under cooked Turkey. It's in wikipedia.
It's a series.......I already explained that in the video.....so if I showed the destination in the first video what would I show in the rest of the series??
the PS3 is more reliable and theoretically more powerful. It's CHEAPER now too, in the past this was the biggest problem it had, the outrageous price.

For all I know he could have been full of chit, BTW ★★★★★

a lot of people die on black friday. because of all the sales people trample each other to get to the item that is on sale. its pretty sad. -_-

Black Friday means is the time where there yearly profits/loss comes out of red aka negative into black aka positive. So its the time of year when thy start making money and not short. Its a make or break for all the stores.

Sweet! It is a series ^^ If the 13 comes from friday the 13th then what's mordeth?

MrBlueGixxer 2 years ago
Yeah I also know about this 14th century excecution thing being the reason for the friday 13th regarded as unlucky etc

My condolences.

black friday is because money written in black is profit. red is debt. if it was called red friday, every place would be in debt haha
TimTehPilot 2 years ago
I always thought it was called black friday because it was the the day after the American Thanksgiving. I think they got the Black from all of the bloody stools the people use to get from over eating their Thanksgiving dinner. Usually Friday in the morning the toilets in America were fill with black poop, from under cooked Turkey. It's in wikipedia.

if he showed his face the Triads would send an assasin to get him. He is the great white ninja and his presence in the land threatens their power.

is the ps3 good? compared to xbox360? does it have gta4?
givuhcky22 2 years ago
yes it has GTA IV. Nobody can agree on whether PS3 is better or worse than 360.
Tom314210 2 years ago 3
@givuhcky22
the PS3 is more reliable and theoretically more powerful. It's CHEAPER now too, in the past this was the biggest problem it had, the outrageous price.
WunderDoob 2 years ago
The term "Black Friday" (in this sense) originated in Philadelphia in reference to the heavy traffic on that day...More recently, merchants and the media have used it instead to refer to the beginning of the period in which retailers go from being in the red (i.e., posting a loss on the books) to being in the black (i.e., turning a profit). - wiki
