After being in construction for over 10 years, i recently tried using something i found online called ez hang brackets that replace shims by using metal brackets. They worked great and i hung a door in record time.
This is an excellent video. I have replaced the front door at my home with a traditional bamboo one, double layered and varnished with sap from the Chinese palm tree.
