That was some godly portamento at 3:16. You could've fooled me if you told me that came from Heifetz!
I wish they showed a rehearsal when she was younger though. Her age has really done a toll on her technique here, and the Carmen Fantasy was just too much to handle.
i've been watching these series for the last two days, I discovered them here on youtube. I did not know about ida handel...This violin playing is so touching that ican't help crying when i hear it...ida is a very pleasant personality. Real talent.
That was part of the Violin Concerto by Benjamin Britten, a wonderful work of which Ida Haendel has made a superb recording. She was one of the great violinists of the 30th century and is still playing not too badly now.
The Greatest Artist ever, Yfrah Neaman my the teacher was used to tell me about Ida when she was in his class, he was used to tell me about his conversations over the phone when I was use to go to the lessons, and Hurwitz often told me how to try to learn to play like Ida. She is a true Artist.
Thanks very much for posting this programme. A truly original violin legend, and wonderful antidote to some of those robot players we get two a penny nowadays.
about the very stupid guy with glasses laughing behind her....well.....play a scale and after u can lough for real!

Fell in love with Ida. When she was younger. :-) Her Carmen Fantasy by Sarasate wowed me! She's still in her fighting form despite her age!
