Loved this film!! Duvall is absolutely great and this is one movie that makes the Bible belt understandable and humanly accessible even to those of us who are not hardcore evangelicals. It gives a full picture, and shows both the liberating and the less savoury sides of this southern Christian culture - show them with love.

@screenoutthelefties worry? no. in the CONTEXT of that men-only congregation, it was probably a gesture of solidarity to God's word, hailing God, and to the unification of the men who were there. i didn't see it as anything negative and certainly nothing negative or stigmatizing about Christianity ... if that's where you were coming from.
